[GBM] Interparty Relations 101
Paul Proteus
Sup subscribers. This is a non-party related episode of Goodbye Blue Monday, so strap in subscriber.
Now, some of us you may be wondering why I'm writing. Well, consider this an excerpt of my own entry into the canon, a chapter in Paul Proteus' Dictionnaire Philosophique. Today's entry, enlightened read, is on a favorite subject of mine.
Interparty Relations
Sup girl~
It may be hard to recall, but this used to be a serious issue. The top 5 parties used to actually be vibrant clubs of no discernible political distinction but serious mistrust. Particularly, when I joined the Feds there was a lot of disdain for the party. We were new to being the country's largest party and we were famously insular. The only real residue of that time is that we still have an off-site forum. Regardless, I recall being invited to several diplomatic mission channels, PP group PMs, and national attention to discord among America's top 5 parties.
Luckily, in the current state of the game, where 15 people total play, we've moved beyond petty disagreements, for the most part. In the past year, the Feds have easily worked with the USWP, the WTP, the SFP, hell even the BSP. The point is, we might disagree vehemently, but we've moved past petty bickering along party lines.
Well, some of us have.
Let's recount a simple timeline.
Generic graphics are fun AND sexy
-The Federalist Party Congressional Delegation is published 3 days before the 25th. The article is boosted to the top 5. The delegation includes Sunshine near the bottom of the list.
-WTP does not make clear to Fed Leadership that they have any problem with this list
-Congressional Elections take place, the Federalist Party takes in ~25% of the vote, getting most of their delegation in
-The Federalists inquire into the WTP's plans for speaker, hear nothing concrete, decide to run AlexJ, and offer WTP a deputy for support
-Hale26 delivers a "public condemnation" of the Federalist Party, then sends an IG PM to Tenshibo, Paul Proteus, and Mr.Carey.
-Tenshibo responds in pretty much the way you'd expect.
-Hale then indicates that the WTP will not support Yui because of Paul and Tenshibo's actions in creating the Federalist congress list.
-?????
-Profit?
Like wtf yo
Oh right, I said this was a dictionary entry didn't I? Well the definition of competent interparty relations is the opposite of whatever that was.
There's some back story that's not super important, they don't justify Sunshine's actions, which Fed Leadership has always condemned. Sunshine was placed on our list because he stepped up to do party work when it was needed, and did it exemplary. There was no slight, and we have not changed our views on what happened at all. However, Fed Leadership has acted well within the bounds of courtesy, and clearly never intended to slight the WTP. Honestly, we didn't realize our list would be an issue at all.
Here's the deal, we love you guys. We publish our lists just so these issues can be pointed out to us. rainy, if you have an issue with our list next month, message me, we generally work things out. But "condemning" our delegation is a confusing tactic. If the WTP wants to freeze itself out of working with the Feds, I mean go for it. It's your loss. At the beginning of the term I reached out to see if WTP was running a speaker candidate and if they wanted Fed support after a month of a Fed speaker, when I heard you guys didn't have a plan we enthusiastically put forth AlexJ and offered you guys a deputy. This isn't to say anything except that we really have no issue, or "tension," with your party,
Let's not let Hale ruin what has actually been like half a year of cooperation.
With love yo,
Paul
Comments
ok den
To be clear, "boosting" = vote buying = lame.
Yeah, I agree. Take it up with the concepts of game theory and the eRep admins who built a system where it can happen. Although tbh I think vote buying has democratized media more than anything, but that's a debate for an article I wrote like 3 years ago xd
maybe, but making vote buying an issue is even more lame than actually buying votes (please link were I can buy, cause now I want to start)
When I started, I could never get a top #5 article. All the articles had over 200 votes and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.
Yeah that sucks. I love the article endorsement system though, I think that's super cool
😉
We were fine until Tenshibo's article. That wasn't so cool.
Hey, we'll forgive the condemnation article if you'll forgive the Tenshibo troll article,
let bygones be bygones?
We were fine until Hale's article. That wasn't so cool.
Well today is fun
I see you voting comments Hale. You can't have him, Dely's my bestie
If you are going to judge them for not specifically contacting you, you should fall under similar judgment for not specifically contacting them.
You published a list. Then you expected them to examine it and approach you. That's how I read this article. Since they didn't come to you, you are in the right and they are in the wrong.
But I disagree (on an issue I couldn't care less about, but you published this mess, so I'm commenring).
If you want to hold them culpable for not contacting you about the list you already published, you might hold yourselves accountable for publishing the list before making a polite inquiry with them about how they would view this.
Either that or you should have dropped it and chalked it up as a political oversight and perhaps not bothered to publish this finger-pointing article disguised as humor.
I understand your point Gnilraps, and would agree if their response was "Look, we're pissed that you ran Sunshine, and this will affect our relations," sure, but to have a player, Hale, write a public condemnation for his party of our entire delegation, then press it on Yui, after coming back from a point of inactivity? Like I guarantee you rainy and Oblige saw my article, if they wanted to do something, they could have. They didn't. That's the kind of incredibly sloppy interparty relations bull that I'm holding him accountable for. "Oversight"? No, I call bull on that too, Hale's reaction was silly, and I am within my rights to point that out.
I imagine if I wrote a public condemnation of any party from the Feds, perhaps for running someone we view as harmful to our community, I would get a huge amount of pushback. Seriously.
Also I published this "mess"? Oh come on Gnilraps, I published a mildly amusing article that succinctly pointed out my issues with Hale. It's not pretending to be much more. You can disagree, but I generally don't criticize every article you write I find poorly structured. You're better than that.
Also it's not disguised as humor, it's a finger pointing article that's meant to be entertaining. Seriously that's always been my m.o., would you actually have liked this better if it was humorless? Come on Gnil, it's not pretending to be apolitical at all, there's no deception like your implying.
Only thing I will answer:
That statement was signed off on by Comet Academy, Thalio Voss, Cubby, The Mike and I- as is stated in the article. I realize there is a newfound obsession with me on your and Carey's part, but trying to boil this down to Feds v Hale is just fanning the flames and disrespecting the fact that this is a widely held view within our delegation and our party. Hence why they signed and helped write the statement.
Regardless, a few of us are encouraging WTPers to hold their replies. After this comment I'll be resuming that policy. The current Fed leadership made their thoughts clear with Tenshi's article. No point fanning the flames. The Federalist party is a force for good and we risk alienating plenty of good players by over-associating them with an arrogant leadership. We have a party to recover post-Sunshine and then after that, a strong opposition movement to build.
By "mess" I was referring to the issue, I was not criticizing the writing. Doing that in eRep is idiotic. Read "publishing this mess" as: throwing this issue even further into the media thus amplifying scrutiny and subjecting yourself to unnecessary additional attention.
As for the distinction between "humor" and "entertainment", I'll defer. Seems like hair-splitting to me, but I wrote it so I'll accept your rejoinder and call this piece a "finger pointing article masquerading as entertainment."
Paul, from my seat, you've become terribly obtuse since your most recent return to this game.
Doesn't mean I don't value your presence here though.
Obtuse? Welp, I'll work on my angle for my next piece 😁

Also wasn't trying to distinguish humor and entertainment, rather contest the idea that I am "disguising" anything in humor. That implies I am being deceptive about my motives, which is not the case at all
As to how I'm dealing with the issue, well, ignoring it is one strategy, but I enjoy media, so I think I should be allowed my own entertainments in this game, and reply.
As for my being obtuse, well, I respectfully disagree I guess. Fwiw I value you too Gnilraps.
And Hale, this isn't Feds vs Hale unless you interpret it that way. This is "Hale's article was a poor decision in Paul Proteus' view." However, what I feel I should also respond to is the inherent hypocrisy in comments that repeatedly condemn "fanning flames' while also decrying "Fed leadership" as arrogant, or "risking alienating members" after blanket condemning a 15 players from Tenshibo and my decision. Also I'm not obsessed with you, although it would fit your rhetorical argument very well. You wrote an article, this is in response to that action. If you stop writing articles condemning my party's congressional delegations, I imagine I shall have the good fortune of not having to include you in my articles in the future.
Children, please.
Stop pointing fingers and saying he did it first.
At the very least if you do not condone what Sunshine has done in the past, then you should have left him off the ticket; parties should police themselves and not expect others to do it for them. Now you should ask for him to be censured and demand and apology before the censure is left for him playing his game and not the 'meta game', yes?
Let's stay out of this one, Frank. SFP is finally not the center of Party drama, let's keep it that way xD
You are ofc completely right.
I agree.
