[DoD] USAF Merger and Reorganization

With the continuation of the Gnilraps Administration, I have been asked to assume the role of Secretary of Defense. With this position has come the weighty responsibility of leading our Armed Forces into and through the merging of our military units.

As part of this process, we have assembled a Command Team to lead our new unit. First, a breakdown of the positions within the unit.

The President shall serve as the Commander of the unit, and is the ultimate command authority within our military. All administrators and officers serve at his pleasure, but will largely be left to their duties without any significant daily contact with the President.

The Secretary of Defense will have an expanded role in our new military. In the early days of the eUSA, the Defense Secretary was an integral part of the government and directly oversaw much of our military activity. The importance of the position waned with the rise of career officers turned political heavyweights, and in recent days we have seen it used as a testing ground for future leaders. With this reorganization of our military, it is my belief that this position will return to its earlier status, and given the nature of a single MU military, will oftentimes be appointed directly from the mid-to-senior officer ranks rather than used as political chattel. Typically, the SecDef will run the military on behalf of the President, and work with him to set policy for the unit.



The President and Secretary of Defense are, primarily, political positions which will change every month or two (hopefully effective Defense Secretaries will be retained despite political whims in the same vein that Secretaries of State have been in the past). The responsibility for day to day management of the military will fall on four Section Chiefs.

The Training Section will handle the processing of new members, and training those that are new to eRepublik/USAF. They will occasionally run special events for trainees, and will act as a place for many of our Operation Retread members to engage without burning through their Division 1 levels. TorrinTheGreat will be assuming Command as Training Section Chief.

The Finance Section will manage commune holders, ensure they are stocked with RM as needed, restock supply orgs as necessary, and track all credits and debits on the MU ledger. Quartermasters will be responsible to the Quartermaster General and Finance Section Chief for all accountings of their work. enderaggie shall be our Finance Section Chief, with nui04 as his Quartermaster General.

The Security Section perform spot checks on the finance section, follow up with new/recent recruits to ensure our trainers are up performing adequately, watching current and new members for any out of character activity that we should be aware of before moving them up in rank or to higher regiments. The appointment of new Captains, Quartermasters, and Commune holders should be run by the Security Chief prior to final action. I like to think of the Security Section as our in house auditor. Former President and occasionally tank-beast Artela will be our Security Section Chief.

The Operations Section Chief will have the most on their plate day to day, to be sure. ‘Operations’ covers all manner of sins, and will be responsible for ensuring Captains set orders appropriately when we dispatch specific regiments to special battles, handling personnel assignments and issues, appointing Regimental Captains each month, and working with Regimental Staff (Captains and Team Leaders) to run any special events such as competitions, contests, etc. Operations Command will be responsible for the daily publishing of DoD Orders, and will have a media office which shall work to ensure our officers and soldiers accomplishments are recognized appropriately. Taking on the significant burden of being our very first Operations Section Chief is none other than rainy sunday.




This organizational structure evenly spreads out the responsibility of running the unit, without placing too great a burden on any single person, and respects the fact that the President is the ultimate authority in our military. Appointing a single meta commander only would have created a de facto Commander in Chief, when we already have one of those elected each month. This system creates a system of equals working together long term, rather than a single person dictating to subordinates. Maybe we’re wrong and everything has to be a dictatorship, I’ve often thought I should be dictator of America just for the sake of simplicity, but the best ideas and the best results come from a small group of dedicated people working together.

This initial Command Team is one I am very excited to work with, and will be equally excited to serve under once my tenure as Secretary of Defense ends. They are capable, motivated, and each of them have proven their dedication to our country through years of service.

We are already discussing ways to improve our efficiency and streamline our operations. The migration of our members to what is currently the Special Forces MU is under way, but unit integrity will remain largely intact. We all know how important it is to feel comfortable where you are, and so we’re setting up our new regiments to reflect the membership of the units being merged. Special Forces, The Ultramarines, and Air Force/Flight Training personnel are being assigned to regiments together.

The work of building a new unit should and will not require us to forcibly dismantle relationships and friendships of the past. The barriers between our former units will fade over time, naturally. People will get to know each other, and the new systems in place, and will become more and more comfortable moving ‘up’ to higher regiments because they will recognize that they aren’t losing anything, but gaining from the transition.

For the next week or so, members should request supplies as they have done previously, we hope to have the new system fully implemented at the beginning of next week, and I am in talks with our Technology officers with the aim of getting everything integrated into a new and improved system.

All USAF members are welcome to join us in #USAF. Once the move is complete, Regiment captains will be tasked with ensuring their members are granted access, but for now, just join the room and chat with us. We are limited in how many people we can invite to their specific regiments at a time, so while that process is underway, let’s all get to know each other better.
