Join the new world

This week has been one of the most frustrating i've experienced in eRepublik. The burden of leadership weighs very heavily on me at this time, as there was a scathing rebuke of my administration made earlier today. In this rebuke, there was one clear message: war at any cost immediately. War is something I have been working on this entire term. I have been on IRC almost every day talking to our allies and trying to hammer something out. Several plans fell through due to unforeseen circumstances. The first thing I informed Orion about when the term started was that we needed war, and Orion understood. Orion HQ has been working hard with me to find us a war, but we have been scraping the bottom of the barrel. An airstrike is our only realistic option without betraying our allies or being guaranteed a wipe. I want war very badly, but I will not throw this country into a war that I know we will lose or betray the trust of our allies. Let us examine our options for war without an airstrike:

1. USA

Multiple people have told me we should attack the USA. This is a terrible idea, not a bold idea. The USA on its own dwarfs us in terms of strength. But they also have MPP's. Let us examine these MPP's:

As we can see, USA maintains a huge stack of MPP's. If we had declared war with the MPP's we normally maintain we would have lost 90,000CAD worth of MPP's and all the above allies would have been set to fight against us. Keep in mind, at the start of the term, we only had about 300k. The only MPP's we could have reasonable had would have been Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Iran and Australia. That would have been 19 MPP's against 5.

We would have been outgunned to the point of insanity and our allies would have killed us for wasting their money on MPP only to break them. Under these circumstances war with USA is not logical.

2. Portugal

Portugal is a member of ATLAS, a tight-knit arrangement hammered out many months ago ensuring we would always be on good terms and defend each other from foreign invasion. Declaring war against Portugal would be a betrayal of the highest magnitude.

3. France

France is a member of ATLAS as well. They are also a member of our alliance, Orion. This is also absolutely out of the question unless we want to be friendless and just as bad as FYROM.

4. Argentina

Argentina is our newest neighbour. It is very unfortunate this month that Ireland and UK are wiped, because at the start of the term we were planning a TW with the UK. Argentina is also a strong ally of Canada and they are much stronger than us. This would be another wipe scenario as Asteria would come down on us. Hard.

Conclusion

War against any of our neighbours is unworkable unless we feel like committing suicide.

The Alternative: Airstrike

As the only rational choice, this is the one we have been focusing our efforts on. At this time we have an airstrike target and direct allied support. Out of an abundance of caution, the target has only been revealed to congress, cabinet and MU commanders. These three groups have been kept apprised of the progress of seeking an airstrike target all month. Multiple plans were made with allies, but all fell through until now. We are proceeding with our target now no matter what.

Early in the term, I was paralyzed by the prospect of FYROM attempting a coup against us. FYROM betrayed us badly months ago and they hate us with a passion. I was being presented with PM's directly threatening to coup us by the CP of FYROM. As a result, we proceeded with caution early on. Still, this did not matter because of logistics.

Even now, after shedding some 6 MPPs we have not filled the airstrike. If we proceeded with the airstrike two weeks ago it would have cost us nearly 100k to fill it up with funds from the treasury. With the cost of re-signing MPP's this would have left us with about 200k. Congress wanted a reserve fund made to defend against a coup. I wanted to keep at least 100k at the bare minimum. This leaves us with 100k for CO. 100k is not enough to land an airstrike against a competent opponent. For this reason, I opted to wait until the public gradually filled up the AS with private donations. This has saved us a lot of money we can now use for CO.

eCanada's Airstrike

Now that we have a loaded gun, we are ready to go out and do some damage. The target is set the law will be proposed tomorrow. This is much later than I wanted to, but it is still well within the term, as promised. I expect those who have complained the loudest to come out and hit the hardest, because if all goes well we will have a long and tough war. However, it is a war we can win. We are not committing suicide, we are taking the fight to our enemies and helping our friends and allies. I hope you will join me on Wednesday to fight for eCanada and for glory!
