[Appleby] Fight for Honour - Constitution Invoker v King Woldy 4 Button Presser

Day 2,717, 09:36 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Sir Humphrey Appleby

Soaring popularity - Apologies, Thomas and I went a bit overboard with the invoker lines from dota 2...

Good afternoon gentlemen o7,

It has been an odd couple of weeks since I was accidently installed as UK Reform’s apparent Voice of Dog/God, denying Gali once again his ancient birthright to much of the country’s distress. In the subsequent improvised swag there have been a lot of baw about the policies I and the PP cabal have submitted to the community, particularly on my interpretation on how inclusive these policies should be.

As it has now become obvious even to me that FightAndProduce’s martyrship over the inclusion of BDP has more or less derailed my chances, it's despite his own candidate agreeing with me on matter he resigned over. It has however gracefully given me the opportunity to stand on a platform merely of my observations of how we’ve got here and where we could go from here. Given the main candidate is Mr Woldy, I can safely assume we should continue to have reasonably similar approaches sustaining and improving the new model of government in the interests of the eUK above any one part of it.

How we got here

People have generally distrusted the idea of community-agreed compromises being codified on the basis that they don’t trust the other ‘participating’ parties to follow them. This was indeed the case 2/3 years ago when one or two parties started ignoring compromises reached by the others, essentially forming their own part of congress and indeed creating a community more or less cut off from the other.

Despite people’s obvious misgivings given the scenarios seen in the past, and despite the eUK’s initial mistake of trusting a democracy alone in providing stability, it was clear to me that a model of government based purely on the ingame modules alone would either provide unaccountable security OR a vulnerable liberty.

After the invasion of MEK it became more obvious that people wanted the middle ground I had posted my thoughts on, and after my surprise election as UKRP PP I thought the obvious thing would be to ask the other PPs if they agreed and would like to help me hammering out a new system to tempt Mongress with. As of 2 days ago it managed to pass with only 2 abstentions against.

Where we go from here

The role of the Dictator under the current Act is simply to be the glorified button presser and advisor to the government and congress. They also act as a safety net to secure the orgs should a CP be impeached after going rogue, and even request that they be banned from the game.

You may not think that the above makes them much of a Dictator but these limits seemed satisfactory to both protect the country’s funds in an emergency and also allow the CP the freedom to carry out the policies of his government.

The main concern is how useful this Act will be should Woldy or I decide to pull a Wayne and legally keep every penny of taxes stored on the national orgs. Largely it would do nothing practically to prevent it, and the admins would almost certainly ignore us should we try referencing it to recover some of our funds.

What it does do is show that the individual breaking the Act has effectively broken the community’s trust in them placed under it. It gives the country, not just a single political party, a moral reason to blacklist them from any further election and to alienate them from the entire community. It also provides a common sense procedure to undertake should one element of government go wrong, saving the usual 4/5 days of squabble and general headless chicken’ing that we usually go through.

Conclusion, innit

Honestly if I wanted to lose to someone it would be Woldy, so I can completely understand if you’d rather vote for him instead. I do, however, want to defend my record as FaP’s martyrdom has apparently brought the ire of other parties against the fellowship of my own.

People who know me personally will know that I have always primarily focussed on the welfare of the eUK above my own party, despite having had the PPship for 13 terms over 5 years of playing. My philosophy has always been to try and ENJOY the game, to try and encourage others to play FAIRLY, and to see the ultimate HUMOUR in a game we can all agree is rather silly but has a couple of interesting players that make it worth the while.

Therefore the key to any Act, and any Government or Dictatorship is the INCLUSIVITY of our community, and those that want to fairly participate in it. Over the course of bringing this Act together I’d like to have thought I did my best on achieving that.

Your faithful constitutional invoker,

Appleby
