[AMP] End of Term Congressional Update

Tax Discussions
Almost as soon as the forums were back up, Franklin Stone made a discussion thread to raise the work tax back to 10% to help fight off the small French invasion we faced. The proposal passed, but the in-game vote failed to follow suit. Final vote ended 19 for, 23 against.
Also, a discussion opened up to lower the VAT for the new houses from the default of 10% down to 5%, where the VAT for food and weapons is as well. The proposal passed, and the in-game vote did as well. Final vote was 41 for, 2 against.
Blacklist/Censure Discussions
No self-respecting congress would go an entire halfterm without discussing blacklisting somebody. And this congress certainly did not disappoint in that regard!
The first discussion was opened by Dennis McVicker to remove himself from the Congressional Blacklist (the forums were still straightening themselves out at the time.) Both the proposal and vote threads passed. Final vote was 18-17, with 1 abstention. Welcome back DMV.
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that, while DMV has been removed from the blacklist, he was denied citizenship by IES.
Another discussion was opened to censure and/or blacklist Pfeiffer for allegedly moving citizenship to join an eUS enemy, and fighting against eUS interests while there. The proposal passed and it went to a vote. Final tally was 14 for, 27 against. Pfeiffer would like you to know that he is the law, bitches.
In response to the discussion being brought against him, Pfeiffer also opened a thread to discuss “blacklisting a whole bunch of traitors.” It was closed by the SoH, only to be reopened the next day. It is still open, though it doesn’t really seem to be going anywhere that doesn’t include a lot of Pink Floyd quotes.
There was also a joke proposal opened by Apollo221 to have himself censured from congress. It failed to garner enough approvals, and was subsequently shut down.
Legislation Discussions
There were also two separate discussions made to introduce new congressional legislation. One was created by Delyruin to provide a statute of limitations on congressional censures and blacklistings. The discussion was ended before moving to proposal, at the request of its creator.
Another was created by FS to make a code of conduct by which all eUS citizens would be held. Any citizen found breaking any rule in the code would be automatically censured and/or blacklisted. The discussion is still open, but does not look to have the support to pass a proposal.
Miscellaneous Discussions
WookyJack opened a thread to discuss what should be done about the gold the eUS earned from the New World Cup competition. We pretty much decided to just let it chill for now.
And, lastly, Delyruin reopened the ever-popular General F***ery thread. Thanks again for making me laugh.
😛
Blacklist Pfeiffer - 0 yes, 8 no, 1 abstain
Un-Blacklist DMV - 3 yes, 4 no, 0 abstain
Thanks for reading! Hopefully I’ll be able to retain my congressional seat for this next term (I’m 8th in line for AMP.) But, even if I don’t, I will continue to do these articles, because I keep up with congress whether I’m in it or not! See you next time.
P.S. I’m holding a little competition on the forums to find a cool banner for my newspaper. Feel free to follow that link and enter if you’ve got photoshop skillz and an interesting idea. There’s gold involved!

'Welcome back DMV.'
I would like it noted that he has been denied citizenship by the IES. Seems your vote in the 'meta congress' is meaningless....
Seems Pfeiffer is the law, bitches.
Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't heard about that.
The vote removed his blacklist. IES still determines whether someone is accepted or not.
Contrary to popular belief, Pfeiffer is not involved in IES.
Nobody said he was....

I wasn't in Congress this last term d/t Plato's tech glitch, and like most I didn't do a ton of reading on my own. Thanks for the update. Keep 'em coming.
Great way to know what's happening in the congress for those who don't want to read every thread in the forum.
Voted hard!
Thank you for filling us in. I just started recently so this was very helpful. I'm all for transperancy. Great job.
Beautiful article. Glad to have you in AMP and I'm happy you were given the opportunity to be a congressman and utilized it so well.
Great article.
Greeling should say "Needs more of these articles."
Righteous, dude!
Very impressive and neutral article. Great work there Officer.
Also nice to see the way AMP voted. Shows that we can vote together, and vote differently, and nothing changes between us since our opinions will be respected by others in the party.
The fact that DMV was unblacklisted by Congress but citizenship blocked by IES is ridiculous. Isn't IES a subordinate of Congress?
The whole Blacklist/censure Pfeiffer thread was stupid.
Pfeiffer's blacklist everyone thread was more stupid.
The fact that Congress thinks it can police America is the stupidest.
Too bad the time limit on censures/blacklists didn't work out. It was doomed to fail as the only real reasonable legislature the entire month in Congress.
Congress has reached a new level of stupidity. Thank you eRep labs for ending the regional voting for Congress... it sure has worked out well /sarcasm
Congress appoints the IES Director, but they do not oversee the day to day operations nor the decisions of it outside of the ability to remove the director via a vote.
IES is the only Congressional department that can supercede the will of the Congress. At one time, it was merely an advisory department... now it is just out of control.
I remember when just one Congressman vouching for a citizen on the Requests list was enough to pass IES procedure. Congress has created a monster.
Still, there are regulations that govern who is admitted via IES. Fighting against the eUS is one of the reasons for denial, which DMV did. Congress may have removed him from the Blacklist, but that doesn't pardon him for crimes that block his immigration request.

Thanks for the recap. Nicely done paper.

Pfeiffer for all the bs about how people don't like him, there is virtually nothing he can do that will blacklist him from the US gov't. It is more or less in his pocket.
Do you ever stop whining?
no
You should try it some time, you might even end up getting a date that dont involve you plying heralcohol, roofies or Chloroform. Or removing her frm her box and blowing her up
