Inter-Pol #9 - The Worlds Forces Part 1 - Mercenaries

Comment-newspaper 10 comments  more than a year ago

The Worlds Forces Part 1 - Mercenaries.

Ever since war became present in eRepublik, people have sought to profit from it. No-one more so than the gun-toting mercs that offer their military expertise in exchange for payment.
Some of them will fight for the whoever is the highest bidder, some will prefer to retain a sense of moral obligation.
Either way, if a force needs re-enforcing, eRepublik's mercenaries are there waiting to fill the gap.
Being a merc often gives warriors far greater experience than simply fighting in wars for their country and allies. For that reason mercenaries, though fewer in number than the other forces profiled, are among the toughest, most experienced fighters around.

This reporter has been in touch with some of the most famous mercenaries around, here's a little about them and their forces.

-----

First up is Alucard Bloodlust, the first eRepublik citizen to attain the military rank of General.

Alucard Bloodlust:

I am a part of no group. I have no fixed allegiance. my group is whoever is paying me. I am an individual mercenary, and the most powerful, and most successful of them all!
I have had too many military successes to choose one over any other, but I do have several favorites, which include:
-killing 34 Norsemen in Russia singlehandedly in one day
- securing all of South Korea singlehandedly against the Japanese military and their allies on that same day
- Slaughtering Nave Saikiliah multiple times
- Slaughtering Dishmcds multiple times (-Ed Dish informs me he's managed to strike the great Alucard for 84 damage with no weapon, although there may or may not have been a bug involved!)
- slaughtering 48 Greeks in the Turkish war

And I fear no force! BA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

-----

Next up - Final Destiny - Leader of the Spears of Destiny. Final Destiny is a former eUK president, and currently resides in the newly 'free' Ireland, where he's currently a member of Congress

Final Destiny

Tell us a little bit about the force you command.

The Spears are fighters for Justice! Of course justice doesn't come cheap these days. We are a small group that decided we wanted to go out and put sharp point sticks in people that don't pay soldiers very well. Our numbers vary depending on who is available at the time. Some members are busy in a Mayors Office or as Members of Congress. Their identities are secret of course.

What (if any) are the pre-requisites for becoming part of the Spears of Destiny?

None but we do trials for new members those that perform well according to the Elder Spears are welcomed into the society. The ones that don't make it are free to try again later of course.

What do you think is the spears greatest military success?
To date I guess we don't have many. We have fought in South Africa and Sweden alongside the UK Paratroopers. I'd say Sweden as we was on the attack but our Ratios were still pretty damn decent.

What part of the spears are you most proud of?

The command structure. Though it's still in the works.

Who/what is the force you most fear coming up against on the battlefield? Why?

No fear for a Spear. Any Spear shows a sign of fear we use them as shields while we charge into massive armies. Though I hear Benn Dover and his motley crew are pretty tough.

-----

Finally, we have Benn Dover, formerly a prominent political figure from eUSA, Benn's other distraction, being a Q4 weapons GM gives him that little something extra to offer employers.

Benn Dover

Tell us a little bit about the force you command.
I personally don't have a "group", or "command", but I do have friends in high places. In the past those friends and I have, together, gone to countries and merc'd together. These citizens include...

Uncle Sam
Emerick
Rusty Randy
Cj Will Win
Joeph Cole
Franco (ThisGenMedia)

Others that have recently wanted to fight with me have been Daphne and FinalDestiny, but we haven't really planned much.

What (if any) are the pre-requisites for becoming part of [your group]?

There aren't any pre-reqs, but I don't like to accept random citizens. In a recent article of mine (http://www.erepublik.com/company-1367.html) I have asked if anybody wants to join my ventures, and in that article I said that I'd prefer you to be in the high 5s or 6s, but that's not set in stone - Joeph Cole is a 5.46 corporal, but that doesn't limit him. If somebody who I've never met before asks if they want to join me wherever I go, then I'd say no, regardless of strength or rank. I would take the time to invite them to the US chat and talk to them so that I could get to know them better.

What do you think is [your groups] greatest military success?

Well Emerick, Uncle Sam, and I were among the strongest in Turkey during the Balkan war. We amassed nearly all of our wins there and managed to take over several Greek territories, so I guess that could be considered successful. Since the people who fight with me are international, we don't revolve around one country. Instead, we usually just go to other countries and offer our assistance. Normally we'd send PMs to both country leaders and military-higherups, but because of the Peace GC and Atlantis alliances, it's been difficult to not be hated, being a US citizen and all =p. Currently the Romanian group FAR has hired us to help take out Hungarians.

One thing that I can promise as a businessman, not a mercenary, is Q4 weapons to whichever country I merc for (I own Guns n' Stuff, which has around 40 employees). Romania and Portugal have both bought me export licenses and we agreed to sell weapons. This just adds onto the bonuses of hiring me for your country - Uncle Sam too.

What part of [your group] are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of our attitude towards war. Sure we want to profit, but it's more important just to have fun and get experience. I can't speak for everybody who fights with me, but that is the attitude I have about merc'ing. I respect players from both alliances, including mercs, domestic fighters, and freelancers, and I feel that if everybody were this way, then war would be less dramatic. That mentality is one that I've developed through my 9 months of gameplay.

Who/what is the force you most fear coming up against on the battlefield? Why?
I think that eventually, Indonesia is going to declare war on either Brazil or Argentina, opening them up to even more countries in the Americas, but this is not a fear. I do not have any fears when it comes to anything regarding war or military. Sure it might be a challanging fight, but that just makes it more interesting, not scary ; )

-And a shameless plug from Benn himself -

WAR is back on line, Politics is back on hold

-----English Version Folows--------

RAZBOIUL - a reinceput. Ca si pana acum, sa luptam organizati, sperand ca macar serverul va face fata. Dusmanii nu au nici o sansa. Va readuc aminte modul de organizare:

- Skill sub 4 - [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/profile-1033632.html]Soimii Patriei[/a]

- Skill intre 4 si 5 - [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/profile-52471.html]Garda Nationala - Vanatori de Munte[/a]

- Skill peste 5 - [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/profile-1017272.html]Fortele Terestre Romane[/a]

Deci preturile ar trebuii sa scada in curand.

Castigarea Razboiului.

First part of the article is about Romania's military organization.

The part on politics is about yesterday election. I got the most votes in first part of the day, but Alex Craciun managed to win. Congratulations to him!

[a url=http://www.erepublik.com/party-1981.html]United Romania[/a] showed that a rather small party - built around a core of active and working people - can compete with a giant pary. And also work together.

So, now we can go back to wining the WAR!

ps. We all know that [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/profile-984501.html]PEACE[/a] is actualy about war, and it's name describes their backstabbing nature. But their atitude can soon change. Of course, this is just personal opinion, and I'm not even president. For facts, read Misho's [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-594862.html]article[/a] . read more

Inter-Pol #8.5 - Part 2 of our erepublik 101 edition (Beginners Guide)

Comment-newspaper 0 comments  more than a year ago

Part 2 of our erepublik 101 edition.

Politics 101

Alright, so not everyone likes politics, but it is one of the more fun and exciting ways to express yourself here in Erepublik. First, when you register you'll be given the option to join a Party. You'll want to read through all the parties, and preferably their manifesto's to see what they stand for before picking one. This way, your ideals and beliefs would actually match those of the people you're going to be standing alongside.

Next, if your country has a National Forum, you'll want to register there. You may ask what the need is, but due to the fact that there is no form of private mass communication on Erepublik, National Forums are really the only way to communicate privately within a selective group. It's not absolutely necessary, but you'll find becoming involved in politics and actually being successful almost requires it.

Once you've done that, raise your voice within the Party. Offer to help organize the party somehow, and if you're up for it, ask to become a Mayor (provided your Party doesnt have someone already in your region).

Mayoral responsibilities differ from country to country, so if you choose this route I would do some background research to see what is asked of those people. For instance, Mayors in the UK are extremely more active than those from the US in my experience.

Eventually, you'll find yourself, so long as you voice rational and positive ideals within your party to have a following. Your Party President can appoint you to a seat within the Party that allows you to be in Congress (once again, Congressional duties differ from country to country), and maybe even win an election as Party President if you're a real go-getter.

From there, I am sure you'll be able to figure out the rest.

Overall Beginnings

Overall, Erepublik is a simulation based on activity rather than technical knowledge. It's not too hard once you've been around for a few weeks, so don't get discouraged if you have a hard time understanding it. Send

out Friendship requests, and Private messages to get to know people, and most people, since this is a social game, will welcome friends with open arms. We're all here for the mental stimulation and challenge that Erepublik provides. We can provide a new world, a new beginning without bias and tension. The challenge we face, is the same challenge everyone else faces, and that's how.

Inca un pas : Candidez - Romania Unita

Comment-newspaper 53 comments  more than a year ago

----English Version folows----

Asa este politica, are putea spune cineva. Da, doar in nefericita tara din RL numita Romania este asa. Deci, am inchis televizorul si am aprins calculatorul.

---Economic : Capitanul Panait, Seductiv,
---Militar : Valyfl, Han Solo, Astromaniac
---Externe : Titu , Andu, dura_lex
---MI: MickeyD
---Ministrul Comunicarii : elena.coman

---Colaboratori: MihaiD, Adrian Shai, aurolacu ninja, Il Principe, Smif,
Claudiu Ghebaru, Dusty, PsP, rektor, Rootz si lista va contina.
---In plus, multumesc PMR pentru [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-587122.html]sustinere[/a] .

In plus, acordarea unei importante mult mai mari programului [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/profile-610261.html]Help Center[/a] .

This is a brief version, for the ATLANTIS warriors that might wonder that this is about.

I am [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/party-1981.html]United Romania[/a] 's candidate for presidential elections. However, If i become President, Alex Craciun will remain Romania's Army supreme commander for this war.

Inter-Pol #8.0 - Erepublik For New Guys - The Beginning, Economy, and Military

#8.0 - Erepublik For New Guys - The Beginning, Economy, and Military

The Beginning

You awake in the dead of night, wondering "what's next?"
Well, you have the same problem almost every single on of us has had at some point of our eLives. We sign in to the Erepublik concept of "A New World", yet more and more we ask ourselves if it's really all that new. We still have class differences all over the world, somewhat of an elitest concept working in most established countries, and the debate on what type and setup for Government (not to mention who they elected officials should be) still going on.

Well, I am here to say that this is different than your established world, as it opens doors you'd never see opened, and it happens faster than you think.
When you first come to Erepublik, you'll immediately find that the technical advances arent quite there yet.
You can find a job, just like normal, you can vote (which most of us cannot do as of yet, so that may or may not be a new experience for some), and you can train for your nations military.
Probably the most powerful tool you're given as a brand new player is that you have a way to express yourself to everyone in your own country, which is your newspaper. From almost your first article, you're going to get to know people, and they will make their opinion of you very quickly. If you write a well researched and thought out article on something, say economics or political structure or simply your own Erepublik experience, nine times out of ten you're going to make friends immediately. If you do that, I would bet that most of the major leaders in your own country will make an effort to get to know you.

But the downside is that if you do not write a well thought out article, or do not have decent writing skills you're probably not going to make many friends. So, you may ask, what do you do if you do not or cannot become the best writer in the world automatically?

Well, here's a short rundown of how to advance yourself:

Economics 101

Alright, without getting into the Free Market vs Controlled Economy argument that we've all seen since Day 1 from Erepublik, there are many ways you can advance yourself economically in Erepublik. When you first start out, you'll have 1 skill in all industries, and only your new citizens fee. Therefore, owning a company right away or having tons of money to play the market with isnt going to happen.

I'd recommend first getting a job in an industry that is always hiring, such as food, weapons, or housing.
There's always demand in those areas, so you'll never be out of work. Those industries usually pay very well to boot, so you should boost your income.

In most countries, the lowest wage people offer is normally at least 2 times your skill, but varies from country to country depending on the overall strength of their currency. You're pay will start low, but once you reach a skill level of 3 (if you work that long), your options really begin to open up. Then you can really ask for a substantive raise, and once the top companies start to bid on you, you can really make some good money.

After you find a job, I'd recommend trying to use your invites for your friends. It's always nice to have friends, and they will pay you 5 Gold per, so it's a good way to make quick dough. You can also play a little on the money market, to try and make money there. I warn that you shouldnt play with money you can't afford to lose. Exchange rates change fairly often depending on demand for that currency, so the demand might drop and you might lose money.

Once you have either worked long enough to do so, or invited enough people (or found a group of friends willing to loan you the money/invest), you have the option to start your own company. I would warn to do your research, and really look for an opening in the market. Going into an oversaturated market as a new citizen with little capital can spell trouble quickly. The only people that can employ this tactic are people with lots of capital available to them, to sustain losses while pushing others out (which is rather unethical, but happens).

Owning a company can be time consuming, but rewarding at the same time. It helps you establish a good relationship with your employees, and can establish you in the community or country of your choice. Economic prosperity is also nice as well, but is a long and hard process in which it takes more work to properly manage than it does to work in Erepublik.

The other side to owning a company is knowing your exchange rates (to know how much to sell at in terms of gold, which will help your knowledge of exporting as well), and knowing how much you can sell X product for in any country you choose. As I said, economic prosperity opens doors you'd never think of if it happens, but can spell doom if you're not prepared for it.

The other thing that economics allow is for growth. You'd be amazed at how many people travel the globe looking for success in the business world. Not many people out there want to work for someone else their entire life, no matter if it's more productive or not. There are some that do, for the simple fact that those people can make their own small daily fortune by doing so, but most of us want more.

Which normally means going outside of our National borders.....

Military 101

Now, on to the military section. The first step is to begin training. No matter if you plan on fighting in war or not, it doesn't do anyone any good to not train. You aren't required to use it, and fight on your own will, so there's no point to not training on a daily basis.

Outside of that, you can join your own country's military, or simply travel place to place and fight for fun.
We all know that war will happen in Erepublik. Our economies thrive on it. Rather, they depend on it. Whether we believe in war or not, economic success for every country is simply not sustainable without an increase in demand. Weapons, without war, become completely unnecessary, and gifts lose some of their value as well.

You'll simply keep stockpiling, and every country will simply print more money to sustain companies that hold stock they'll never use. In other words, what we're doing is pointless without war.

But, you need to be properly stocked up.

A Soldier, a decent strength soldier can do quite a bit of damage with a decent employer (normally a country) that pays in gold, Q4 weapons, and being smart. You can also make a good deal of Gold that way.

Joining your nation's military can also lead to success, but in a political realm. You can join the military, and through active and positive duty achieve high ranks within your National Military System. That can and will garner you attention, and there will be quite a few who respect how your success was built. I usually relate to doing things the old fashioned way in that sense.

Which transitions me nicely into the Political side of things here in Erepublik.....

Politics 101 to be continued with the next edition of Inter-Pol.....
