Peace proposals.

The other Day, my ex-co-MoFA declared using his newspaper that the eUK has entered a peace treaty with Eden. This is true, however the terms of the treaty have not yet been discussed. In actuality, the word 'treaty' is somewhat misleading. All Eden is doing is retreating it's regions to the eUK and signing an ingame declaration of peace with them.

Although being backed by Phoenix, this perhaps wasn't made clear enough to begin with.

This means we shall continue to fight for Phoenix in battle across the world.

Although signing peace with Eden has it's obvious disadvantages, it is not for certain that we would ever find ourselves making use of the advantages of not signing peace. In fact, it's incredibly unlikely we ever would.

There has been some negative feeling kicked up in a few select groups of people both here in the eUK and abroad, and hopefully through a set of articles I can hope to make clear why the decision to seek peace was made.

Failure to Extrapolate.

To some extent the eUK has seen a backlash towards it's decision to declare peace. It's not often I release overly controversial articles, however there are several reasons why peace is the right decision.

At the minute peoples perception of the war is slightly off; the idea that once we have initiative we can storm through Poland and Spain using our MPP's and inevitably liberate occupied europe. isn't quite accurate.

Simply put, this idea lacks forefought, and the reality of the situation is that we would inevitably be wiped off the map. A lot of people theorise what we could do upon gaining initiative without considering actions taken by Eden. Possibly even ignoring plans and counters Eden could launch against us.

Allow me to present you with the facts;

Magical MPP's and Mystical Borders

Contrary to what a lot of people think, our activated MPP's cannot be used to maraude through Spanish and Polish Territory. This is because we don't actually have any activated MPP's against Spain and we don't actually border Poland.

This may have sounded condescending, but it's a fair and valid point - keeping up with who owns what in europe (especially when things have heated up on the home front) can be difficult, and so people may not immediatly realise that Eden have already maneuvered to stop us progressing in Europe.

Idealogical Counter Attacks

Since Poland attacked an original eUK region during Eden's siege and activated Phoenix's MPP's many people switched from the traditional Resistance War method to the idea of using the activated MPP's. It seems however, that despite changes in circumstance this idea was still held onto.

Realistically, Eden had already taken and could take more steps to prevent our MPP's being used. Spain removing the Polish border was an example of this. None the less, the hope that these MPP's would be used to liberate our allies - although it was becoming less likely was still held onto. However, no one is to blame for this. We all want to liberate our friends, so it's only natural that we held onto the idea.

Before these activated MPP's came to be, we had faith in RW's. Something we'd successfully pulled off before. The belief that our allies can be saved through RW's is a more realistic one, and a strategy that should not be dismissed.

Our Back's Against the Wall

It's true. We are somewhat surrounded. Being surrounded isn't the best of ways to start a war, especially on eRep where getting yourself 'un'surrounded is tricky. Unless you're eGod. The major disadvantage in eRep of being surrounded is that you are highly susceptible to being blocked.

Picture this; Norway in the East of England. And the USA in the South East of England. Both with open MPP's against London. This is undoubtedly what Eden would have been aiming to achieve, and were getting pretty close to doing so. Upon having the Norwegians and Americans bear hugging us, you can be rest assured they'd do what Eden have become pretty well known for doing. Cycle attacking. With the USA and it's MPP's as well as Norway and their MPP's constantly attacking London, it is sad to say we would inevitably fall, and would be wiped off the map, open wars with us.

Yes! You're right, we had gained the initiative. Now picture this; we fight back and gain all of our regions - great success! And now we can begin moving onto europe. All we need to do is get our magical MPP's and mystical borders that I mentioned. Oh but wait, we also have to keep the initiative. Doesn't sound too hard, but remember, we're surrounded. This means in order to prevent ourselves being blocked, and so to proceed on our hypothetical european assualt - we would need to block the countries surrounding us. This means paying twice a day to open up a battle on all the countries who could potentially block us. The minute we don't, they would block us and fight us back down.

As you can see, we'd be led into a trap.

The thing is, this would also mean activating more MPP's. The largest implication of threatening the Polish and Spanish empires whilst vulnerable to blocking is what in my opinion is the main justification for ending the war through diplomacy. So I've given it it's own sub section.

The Sleeping Giants

So far in the siege of the eUK, both Spain and Poland who have recently bore the fruits of a baby boom have in fact had very little involvement in the battles. A few spanish mobiles appeared in the opening hours of the battle for London, but on whole that is pretty much it.

Funny then, when as a result of the USA's attack, it ends up Spain and Poland being the Eden countries with the most to lose. So far they'd been happy to let the USA have their fun. So have we. But at what point would they step in? It's fair to say that we wouldn't win by large margins once they did, and it's also fair to say that any signs of us damaging their empire would force them to step in and intervene.

But what can be done about the country with the MPP's against Poland? What can Poland and Spain do to eliminate the risk posed by these MPP's? There is one thing they can do. Wipe them from the map. Eden couldn't afford not to wipe us. The UK could not afford to fight.

Timing is Essential

So you may be wondering why the peace proposal came about just as we had the upperhand. Simply put, it portrayed to both sides why the war to all extents and purposes, was futile. You can read Josh Frost's perspective here.

If we were to continue the war, Eden countries such as Poland and Spain would find themselves committed to the fight. In other words, if we had continued fighting - we'd soon lose the upper hand and only risk baiting Eden into finishing us off as a team.

Best of a bad Bunch.

I'm not one to go against having fun, afterall this is a game. Why play if it isn't fun? But there are times when you have to step and and put on your gamer face. Maybe the levels of fun drop, but it's necessary to continue playing, and to proceed.

It's true, we were having fun. People on both sides of the alliance. However, when you elect a CP, who appoints the Cabinet, you follow a group of people who have a responsiblity to run and lead the eUK to the best of their ability. They have a responsiblity to keep the country whole. We treat the eUK as you may treat your village on tribal wars. We have to protect it, and afterall, it's what you elected us to do. You put your faith in them to make the best, and right decisions. Hopefully this article will help show you that we have.

Finally, the eUK is one of the most committed countries to the Phoenix Alliance. We shall continue to fight at our best, and take an active role in aiding our allies, from home and when we're deployed from abroad. Hopefully this has shed some light on why we made the decisions we had to you. Regardless of these decisions you'll know that you have our full support. We know we've got yours too.
