The Last Word

(This article is a complete 5:30 AM ramble, so do not expect anything cohesive.)

Despite touting approximately 304 citizens, over the past few days there has been a very sharp decline in articles published in the glorious land of North Korea. Several days in a row, we have only had two new articles published on each day, and one has to wonder why this is? Why would only 0.65% of our population want to engage in the social aspect of eRepublik, especially since in a recent admin article, they proclaimed that 80% of eRepublik players enjoy participating in the social aspect the most?

Well for starters, you need a newspaper for writing articles, and in order to qualify for being able to create a newspaper, you need to be at least level 8 (or at least 50 experience points). Presently, out of those 304 citizens, only 159 are level 8 or higher. So if we were to remove those ineligible, this would mean only 1.26% of our population was writing articles each day. But one could take it even further, and see out of those 159, how many actually have a newspaper? Well, after looking over the newspaper rankings for North Korea, one can see that only 18 people presently living in North Korea even own a newspaper, or 11.3% of the population eligible to own one.

So despite the admins claims that 80% of players in this game enjoy engaging in the social aspect of eRepublik, 90% of the population eligible to do so in North Korea apparently does not agree with that claim (or 99% of the population as a whole) and, as a result, social interaction in North Korea is at an all-time low.

The number of citizens on our forum also further refute this claim, with only 37 out of the 304 (so 12%) have followed the proper procedure and obtained citizenship there. Of course there is also our IRC channel, where no more than 5 citizens (1.64%) are simultaneously logged on over the course of a day.

Information regarding all of these things have been published heavily in the media (especially by TheReverendSeanV, who even offered incentive to those who signed up for the forum), provided in the new citizen message, and even shouted by some, but still there is no new activity on these mediums. In-fact, since we have come back as North Korea 3.0, I would go as far as saying that less than 10 new citizens (newly created or newly immigrated) have got involved with the old veterans of the 1.0 days.

So what's really going on here: are the admins lying about the reason why people play this game, or is something else happening in North Korea to deviate it away from the norm?
