Why 100 Gold MPP’s Are Necessary
While I respect the opinions of players like Misho, it seems that everyone has been quick to label the new update regarding Mutual Protection Pacts (MPP) with value judgments. It’s not surprising to see them be called good or bad. In fact, they’ve been roundly dismissed and derided. However, in the haste to denounce the move, players have failed to realize the greater significance of the change.
It is true that small countries will suffer disproportionately as a result. It will ease the ability to conquer and perhaps enable it. Furthermore, it may produce another round of Belgium-like mergers. However, it isn’t the effect on small countries that may or may not result in increased fighting, the general lifeblood of eRepublik. And that’s not why the change from 30 gold to 100 gold for MPP’s is necessary.
There is a surplus infusion of gold into the game from purchases, achievements, and unfortunately, cheating. The admins simply have to increase the means of taking gold out of the game. The fees from party presidency runs, ads, company and organization purchases, and whatever other ways I’m forgetting at the moment don’t match the gold entering the game. Marginal differences in the inflow and outflow are alright but it would not be surprising if they aren’t even close. For example, Romania features 1000+ gold intake everyday from achievements alone.
While it will initially affect the small nations, the move is necessary for the entire in-game economy. It is easy to forget how the features interact. The economics model drives as an underground engine the ability to fight.
This is the first in a line of necessary changes to compensate and correct the path of the averred game. It will be necessary at some point in time to revisit the production formula, the skill increases of the oldest players, and diversifying the markets further, among other things. It is forgivable to be shortsighted in regards to these changes, but they are necessary in the evolution of the game.

I don't know... I can see why the Admins would want to take gold out of the game (so that people have to buy more with RL currency), but why do WE, the players, want more gold taken out of the game...?
I like gold.

Hyperinflation
If they want to take gold out of the game then maybe they should stop selling it. Hurting small nations to make a profit is just ridiculous and will only drive those smaller nations out of eRepublik. Then it will simply be a battle of giant power blocks as it is now except with more land and only a few countries controlling everything.
Interesting insight !
I would think the large amounts of gold being lost by tanking, and the buying and upgrading of companies would balance out the gold "inflation" so to speak.
What Teucer said.
Wellness packs! How could I forget them. And battles, too, the largest battles cost several thousand gold on both sides on occasion, which are the largest expenditures. However, that still doesn't approach the total daily intake. The shift to 100 gold MPP's won't correct the problem but reflects, at least in my opinion, the re-evaluation of gold.
Re: Teucer, it can't be expected that a business will stop selling the things that bring it revenue when those things don't harm anything. Additionally, the admins can't be blamed for the devolvement of the game into giant Risk.
If they really want to re-evaluate the inflow of gold they should consider decreasing the size of the gold packs they sell, but leave the prices the same. If people want gold that bad they'll pay anything for it.

Their gold packs are what allow people like Parter and Josh Frost to do what they do. Those gold packs harm everything in this game. I'm not saying it's wrong to make a profit. I'm simply pointing out that raising MPP costs will drive off potential customers in smaller nations as well as adversely affect eRepublik.
I see the increased cost as aimed at the large alliances and powers, but in the end damaging the small alliances and little countries.
the admins dont like seeing the world go into a Cold War like state, each side facing off versus each other but unable or unwilling to attack due to imposing MPPs. It keeps battles from happening, where admins can make some serious cash from wellness packs and individuals buying up gold for weapons. So they raise the price.
But, the large countries can afford the increased cost, the little countries cant. Terrible idea
The whole issue seems to be a a business move hiding behind a game mechanics argument, or am I missing something. Best to just fess up on why things are changing.
I would still like to see some kind of rule that lets small country's pay less.
All they would have to do is base the MPP cost on population and that would make it fair. It wouldn't damage any country's economy irreparably and would still take a larger chunk from the big boys. Thus more gold would be flowing out as the admins wish.
Also, PaminBB is dead on. I have seen this crap happen in other games as well. The devs do something really dumb and try to pretend it's for the good of the game.
If they really want Gold taken out of the game, they can give it to me and I'll hide it on an island in the Carribean.
No, this is awful for small countries. Allow me to give you a much better idea for sucking gold out of the economy, 3 gold for WP's.
Sorry, Lowell, but I can't agree with this at all.
I can't agree with this either. One of the reasons cited for making this change was that 20-30 MPP's were "unrealistic". First, that's a horrible reason for making such a change, because let's face it, this isn't reality. Secondly, how realistic will it be when the eWorld is completely run by 2 superalliances made of 6-7 nations each, due to the fact that these alliances have swallowed up all the small nations, now unable to defend themselves due to a lack of MPP's?
The total Population of the 40+ or so small nations in this game is no laughing matter. We play an important part towards this game. If the admins piss the majority of small nations off by making them have no chance to defend themselves vs large neighbors the loss to this game will be much larger then the gain when most these players quit and very few new ones join from these lands. This cost is insane, many nations can barely afford 1 MPP per month If they are lucky and not to mention this will likely cripple their economies just for this 1 MPP since they would have to take this gold from other programs. Small nations survival is based on the ability to band together with other small nations and the ability to have many MPP's in war time situations is very VERY necessary.
There are no 20-30 MPP wars EXCEPT the training wars .. which I might add will now be destroyed as well. So thats another good thing gone down the drain with this and will ruin our economies further by removing small nations ability to have ANY wars and our markets will go stagnant.
Yes it will hurt training wars, but promote real wars instead.....more fun
