Actually, we have several holidays like that. This one, though, originally marked the signing of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, in 1776. That date was certainly not the end of the War for Independence. That war wasn't even the end of conflict between these nations. The War of 1812 renewed the same struggle for American freedom, and in 1814 there was one battle in particular that was documented by a Baltimore attorney, as a poem which would become our national anthem.

Holding Companies (part 2)

First, let's recap and prologue Friday's part 1 - Cheap Thrills, in which I determined where to set up my first Holding Company.

To be quite blunt, I f----ed up. I hope no one figured I'm so expert at this that you followed my steps to the letter. I saw that House pollution wasn't so bad in Florida and Washington State, and against best advice went for Max Bonuses. My first click to work my employees got me 218% production-- well below the full amount of Country Bonus plus Region Bonus, but still I felt pretty smart.. till the next day.
More House industry in Florida, more pollution, less bonus.. down to 193%, in fact, which is less than Country Bonus and no Region Bonus!

I decided on a different tack for my second Holding Company. This time, I looked at regions with no resources, specifically those with zero pollution.

So I clicked through those, now looking for zero pollution.



Now, ain't that a purty sight. Well, they're not all like that. You'll have to pick your way through the links above, because they're going to change day to day, and find yourself some nice quiet place no one else has discovered... yet.
You may feel cocky about finding Bumf--k first, but even your own existence there will create pollution, and then the next guy and the next after that. So don't get your heart set on even basic 200% Country Bonus, 'cause it won't last.

Maybe it's smarter to find a 2-resource region with relatively low pollution, because idiots like me are going to the extremes and a middle road may pay off better in the long run.
But let's continue with what I did, and you decide for yourself what you should do.

Okay, so I surfed and compared and contemplated. One thing that occurred to me is that there are states that have not been occupied at all, not in a War or even a Training War, since mid-2013. Now, that gives me just a little added sense of security-- scratch the whole east coast.



Time to pay for my new Holding Company. Plato lives in some parallel universe, where laying out all the details ahead of launch is just not necessary, 'cause we'll just muddle through and figure it out sooner or later. And Plato's interpretation of "your second Holding Company will cost 25 gold" is not actually 25 gold, but "a cash equivalent of 25 gold, based on the average offers in the past 24 hours." Plato's Bizarro World.
I also learned to not buy cash for gold, but to put up a gold offer for cash-- I saved a bunch of money doing that.

As you see, I chose Illinois. Don't you go and choose Illinois, because I'm already polluting there, and you'll only make it worse. Do your own due diligence, and click all them links open and have a look for yourself. There's a bunch of clean states left.

There's a screenshot I forgot to grab, probably because I was in such a hurry to screw this up.
After creating the Holding Company, Purple Berries (an extra $100 to the first in the Comments who knows the reference), it's time to move production Companies into it.
There's a narrow little dropdown menu. I did not see it. I especially did not see that the sonofabitch is default set to my first Holding Company in Florida. So with my brand new Holding Company set up in Illinois, I promptly sent my Food Companies to the goddam Holding company in Florida.

Watch out for that. You've been warned. It'll cost ya.
So right there next to the Industry icon, below to the familiar green Upgrade arrow, is a new blue horizontal arrow.. for moving the damn Company.



My Q3 Food Company cost, as you see above, $1965 to move from one Holding company to the other. They even give you a nice itemized bill for the lube job, there. My Fisheries cost $248 each to move. Plenty less than starting over with new, but still enough to sting.
Screwing up costs money. Don't screw up.

Now I want to WAM (Work As Manager) my Food Companies.. click, like normal, and coolio there's my 200% Production. Persistence pays. It costs, but it pays.

I notice, though.. when those things were in Florida there were little yellow triangle icons, like a Hazard sign, telling me I could not work my Florida Food Companies while I was in Illinois. Made sense.
But here I am in Illinois, and there's no little yellow icons telling me I can't work my House companies that are in Florida.
Click.. and wow.. like, wow! I just worked my House companies in Florida without going to Florida.
That whole thing about moving twice a day to work your stuff only counts for WAMs, and Houses don't WAM. Neither will Airplanes, when they come into play.

Well, I hope this was of some value to you. Maybe it'll be easier for you to do the thing, maybe you won't be in such a rush that you'll f--- up like I did. Maybe you'll find entirely new ways to f--- it up.. If so, please do share your misadventures with us-- we'd all love to get a good laugh at your expense.





War Maps & Analysis








Spain reclaimed Galicia from the US in its RW; Spain continues to operate in Mexico, holding firm to regions along its southern border. I did say on Friday that this bears watching. I trust that our NSC is watching.

Neodinium Regions

After all the big fuss over who got the four rare Airplane industry's Neodynium, I thought we'd have a look at where they are, and maybe try a little conjecture.


Romania has theirs in occupied Canada's Prince Edward Island, but unless they can cut a path to Maramures it's not going to do them a whole lot of good. Choke on it, you greedy bastards.


Poland got theirs in its native Mazuria, along with Wolfram. With Titanium in Dainava, both directly neighboring their capital at Mazovia, this superpower will be flying high.

Serbia played this very well, securing three Airplane resources in their natural capital of Belgrade, plus three-- here including the Neodynium-- in southern Japan. Watch for Serbia to move their capital to Kinki if their homeland gets too hot.



Pakistan is playing "all or nothing" with only one region, and it's loaded for Airplanes. Once Plato starts the new industry, expect all their nice neighbors to pounce.

As for the USA, we didn't get our precious Neodynium. So what. Our Airplane industry is well stacked and well placed, and compared to the four nations who did get it we'll have the least trouble and probably most success building and deploying our new Air Force.



Manticores Sighted

First sighted on the battlefield at Galicia.

Tomorrow's Election Results



With the final day for Parties to post their Endorsements (July 2) having come and gone without Derphoof securing even one, tomorrow's Presidential election is all but a foregone conclusion. All that remains is to determine whether greeling or Ajay Bruno will become Yui MCHP001's insurance policy against impeachment.
