What's the Story with My Companies?

Day 2,620, 12:24 Published in Australia Australia by eAus Department of Information

Your companies work for you! Use them, abuse them, they are happy to make you richer (or at least more comfortable). If you are not managing them, you are wasting a valuable resource. Here are some basics about food, weapons, and raw materials.

Food

When you start the game, you have 3 grain farms and a Q1 food factory. All you have to do to make food raw materials (FRM) is tick the “Work as Manager“ buttons then tick "start production"; for the cost of 10 energy per farm you have generated around 100 FRM. The number can vary somewhat depending on the current regional bonuses (perhaps more info in a later article).

Now to produce food in your factory, you have to post a job for an employee. You are saying, but I can’t afford to hire employees… wait, you don’t have to. Just post the job at a ridiculously low wage (currently 5 eAUD per day minimum). No one will apply, but you can assign the non-existent worker to the factory.

Now work as manager at your food factory and voila—you have just produced a little over 200 energy (100 Q1 food, again, more depends on bonuses) for a cost of 40 energy (30 for FRM and 10 for the food). Profit: Around 160 energy—well done!

Weapons

If you are in the JDS you will probably have a mission to buy a weapons factory and make some Q1 weapons. Do so, as completing the mission helps defray the cost of the factory. At some point you get an iron mine which makes weapons raw materials (WRM). When you work as manager there, it takes about 3 days to produce enough WRM to make around 12 Q1 weapons (again, depends on bonuses) using another imaginary worker.

Now, it gets a little tricky to figure out real costs. If you bought the food, it would cost around a dollar (20 Q1 food at 5 cents each=40 energy). If you sold the weapons, you would receive around a dollar. But if you made the food, you now have the weapons and still have 120 energy profit from the day's food production (and that is every third day, when you make weapons; two days out of three you still profit 160 energy). Well done!

Raw Materials

At some point, you want to upgrade your factories. Now you either need to make or buy more raw materials. If you buy them, you will generally pay 2 cents each for WRM and 3 cents each for FRM. Here I only want to say that if you are buying them, watch the market closely so you can buy in bulk— get yourself 1000 WRM at 1 cent each and you have just saved ten bucks. And hey— ten bucks is ten bucks!

Finally, I include the link below to a handy table of companies and profits/losses. Remember that our taxes are lower and RM costs higher than those shown in the table. You have to keep doing some maths as you go along, and consider your energy required for fighting as well. In the immortal words of WyvernJack, “As for making money. Be self-sufficient first. So you can know your profits add up.”
