Weekly Power Rankings S2 #1; Wars, No Peace

Day 2,112, 00:00 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Season 2! Woot! It's good to be back working on this 🙂

Anyway, this, for all you newer players, is the Weekly Power Rankings! It's where I dissect the week in review, and show who pulled off great feats and deals, and which countries didn't do as well as they'd hope to. It's not just a warfare analysis, though that's a big part of it, but there's also noting treaties and long-term security, not just short-term happiness.

Various house rules: don't be a prick. I won't judge your opinion if you don't force it upon me, so I ask the same of you.

And in regards to that green country north of Greece, when they do well it's Macedonia, and when they suck it's FYROM. Got it? 😛

Without further ado, let's get started! 😃

WINNERS

1 (-) Macedonia

TL😉R: Winning RW, securing congress, flipping off Serbia

The Greeks and Macedonians are usually on par when it comes to damage. As a result, it's never a matter of who's stronger, but more of a whose alliance is stronger. In EDEN's heyday, it'd be Greece occupying the three Macedonian regions, while in ONE's reign of dominance, Greece would be under Macedonia's foot. Perhaps a sign of things to come, as Macedonia successfully won Eastern Macedonia from Greece's occupation. With Greece distracted and trying to beat up Cyprus, it was a perfect opportunity for the Macedonians to strike. Not stopping at that, they disproved the theory that they would be too hesitant to fight Serbia, NEing them and attacking quickly, while also securing congress by airstriking New Zealand. Well done.

2 (-) USA

TL😉R: Serbian eviction, Poland next

The zenith of CoT's existence, and what seemed to be the final moments for the alliance, was when TWO simply waltzed into USA, without a struggle (excluding the first battles in FER and Alaska), and wiped the nation. However, USA's journey is almost over. First was the glorious victory over Hungary, surprising given CoT's track record up to that point, and now, Serbia has been fully evicted out of American territories. Surely, Serbia was too split up amongst different fronts to care too much about the American regions, but regions are regions. For America, there's light at the end of the tunnel, as only Poland is left. Poland has gotten a head start, rushing into Oregon without resistance, but now that USA is fully focused on the Poles, will they be able to fully rebuild?

3 (-) Croatia

TL😉R: leading the anti-Serb coalition into the Balkans

The last attack was an absolute failure. Sure, America made use of the distraction and managed to win a couple battles. But all the other setups fell apart, and even the Americans stalled after a couple days. This time, though, the mood and ambiance were pivotal, and some of the best in months, with all major powers already busy. What's important is not that Croatia got its regions back, but that the lesser powers, France and Italy, also recovered regions, contributing to Croatia's ascendance to this stature. With Bosnia and Albania by their side, and Macedonians being a new force to help them in the south, will Croatia finally have its vengeance?

4 (-) Argentina

TL😉R: Covering Colombia and defeating Brazil multiple times

The NAP really did change the battling dynamic in South America. Argentina, no longer split between two winnable battles that together would be too difficult to handle, can focus on Brazil, and so far, it's gone very well. Argentina has picked up well what Colombia started, moving north to nearly wipe the Brazilians, keeping the initiative and looking unstoppable. Argentina has also made its way into Brazil's colonies in South Africa, threatening the smaller country usually under Brazilian protection. On the one hand, Argentina's NAP meant that Bolivia would be somewhat screwed. But on the other hand, it's opened up new opportunities for the Argentinians.

5 (-) Pakistan

TL😉R: Easy victories and development in Philippines

Stuck between big bro Iran and scary daddy China, Pakistan had nothing to do except be the charming one province minor it is. At least, until they left NaN, realizing that instead of being buddies with all of them, they were actually very easy targets. Moral complications aside, the strategic move seems to have worked out. Working with its base in Malaysia, they received a serendipitous stroke of fortune, with Philippines receiving lands back from China. Too easy prey for Pakistan, quadrupling its land despite resistance from the remnants of NaN and Filipinos. With relations being alright with Indonesia and China already being a benefactor with their home regions, it may be that Pakistan has found a nice niche to live in.

Honorable Mentions: Albania, Mexico

LOSERS

Dishonorable Mentions: Finland, Montenegro

B5 (-) Brazil

TL😉R: Continuous defeats in home regions

The mighty Brazilians have not felt so mighty as of late. Long a predominant power spreading its influence across South America, the development and hostilities of such nations as Colombia and Argentina and a lack of similar growth in allies South Africa, Paraguay, and Peru have made it quite a bit more difficult for Brazil to even hold regions, much less its once impressive area. As Colombia moved on to Peru, Argentina quickly moved to fill their shoes, and as a result, no changed for Brazil except the color of its regions. With damage being pumped elsewhere, Brazil may not see any change in the outcome for some time.

B4 (-) Philippines

TL😉R: Wipe at the hands of Pakistan, after months of no congress

It's not easy being in a small country. And small doesn't mean a country like Portugal, or Italy. That's mid-sized. Something like Czech Republic, UAE, and in this case, Philippines. Naturally an easy target, both for airstrikes and PTOers, it was in the Filipinos' best interest to avoid having regions for the moment. And by moment, I mean the last 6 months or so. With potentially unfriendly nations on the horizon and China's safety at times a genuine concern, something as silly as holding congress wasn't a major idea. However, with Chinese borders secure and friendly Indonesia in the south doing well, it seemed like a great time to have regions. But unfortunately, the Philippines couldn't ward off Pakistan, and perhaps this is the worst scenario, having a pro-China country occupy them. Back to square one, minus one or two.

B3 (-) Bolivia

TL😉R: Chilean wipe, Argentina unable to directly liberate them

Bolivia is in the worst position possible. With Argentina unable to attack Chile, it was inevitable that the Chileans would strike the weak nation in the center of the continent, but it hurts no less. Barring a backstabbing, Argentina cannot rescue Bolivia this time. Perhaps Colombia could wipe Peru and make its way to save Bolivia, but overextension and Mexico would also prove an issue. Bolivia's also not strong enough to win resistance wars alone, at least not without lots of damage, which might be needed elsewhere. So what does this mean for Bolivia? It seems that they're in an atrocious situation, and doesn't seem like there can be much they can do but sit and wait for the situation to improve.

B2 (-) New Zealand

TL😉R: Macedonian airstrike in Canterbury, wipe imminent

Just when you think you have it all figured out, something comes along to just ruin your day. Leaving CoT, joining ACT, and buddying with Australia are all, to some effect, good moves to protect New Zealand. After all, with a friendly border to the west and the most damage-wielding alliance in the game, it seems like a nice choice. With Indonesia and Chile hesitant to strike, it seems as if New Zealand could live a nice, if uneasy life. However, Macedonia's gain is New Zealand's pain, the powerful Balkan nation landing in Canterbury to make a new home, or at least a distant outpost, far from Greece's influence, in the backwaters of the world. With so much damage already being allocated elsewhere, and the strategic value of freeing New Zealand relatively low, the kiwis may have to get used to wipe.

B1 (-) Serbia

TL😉R: Eviction from America, collapse of empire and bonus network

This happens every couple of months. Serbia, big, bad, Serbia, with its mighty army of bots and multis (known as two-clickers) and powerful allies, has that thorn in their side, Croatia, poke them incessantly. Time and time again, however, Croatia would be pushed back, no worries. After the scare of Crograde, it seemed as if Serbia got things back under control, as the treasury rebuilt and troops moralized. A quick dispatching last time seemed to indicate Serbia's rise back to the top. But of course, nothing is ever easy. The anti-Serb brigade is at it again, defeating Serbs in France, Italy, Bosnia, Albania, Croatia, and, above all, America. Serbia's glorious overseas empire is now gone, and its Balkan empire soon as well. But can Serbia turn the tide, or is a wipe imminent to uniting forces?
