Weekly Power Rankings #13; The Long Trek South

Day 1,735, 00:48 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Welcome to another edition of the eRepublik Power Rankings! Here are the rules; the efforts of the top five countries this week will be recognized, and the five worst performances will be mocked, no exceptions! Countries are recognized for many things, including successful defending, securing strong alliances, and, of course, conquering rivals. Without further ado, let's begin!

WINNERS

1 (NR) Bulgaria
But Bulgaria is getting beaten up by Turkey! You're clearly not paying attention! Now, now, calm down and look at the other side of the world. While Bulgaria has given up on its homeland in Europe for the time being, it has launched the first successful airstrike in eRepublik history, landing in hostile territory and fighting off EDEN forces. And this was only the beginning. Bulgaria successfully kept its path down South America open and took advantage, marching its army down Argentina's throat, causing massive damage and allowing for even more chaos to harass Argentina further.

Week rating: 9.9/10

2 (5) Hungary
Remember when Hungary was fully occupied by Romania? Times have changed since then, and Hungary has re-emerged as a mighty nation, and it showed off its might in Ukraine, sweeping across the defending nation from west to east, fracturing what's left of Ukraine into tiny chunks. Besides conquering Ukraine, Hungary also started capturing Moldovan territory under Ukrainian control, which they can use to either support their ally or use themselves to support the greater cause. Hungary has faced little serious opposition, and they're alright with it.

Week rating: 9.4/10

3 (4) Taiwan/ROC
To be fair, this never was a close fight. But provinces are provinces, and Taiwan will be more than happy to take a few extra at Japan's expense. The two nations have never gotten along, but with Taiwan getting a major repercussion out of the way, they've been free to attack Japan, and it's been a major success. Taiwan now controls all of Japan, along with most of South Korea, as well as the island that they call home. Taiwan is building its way up to being the major counterpart to Indonesia's Pacific Empire, and if the two were to clash, Taiwan has to like its odds. Right?

Week rating: 8.8/10

4 (NR) Israel
For a strong but so-far-away-from-everything-that-ever-happens nation like Israel, expanding can be tough. It's easy to be confined to being merely a support nation, feeding troops to allies without the glory of fighting for themselves. But Israel got its moment in the sun this week, capturing Saudi provinces in what is presumed to be an agreed-upon transfer. But nonetheless, Israel got its chance to battle it out, and faced surprising amounts of resistance, but successfully captured the errant provinces, expanding its nation by that much more. Short but sweet.

Week rating: 8.1/10

5 (B1) Croatia
The only reason Croatia isn't higher is because I'm still a bit cautious about the longevity of this. But consider this: during a Serbian battle in Turkey, Croatia and Bosnia both took their shots at freedom. Bosnia got shot down in the last round thanks to last-minute Serbian forces, but Croatia managed to grab the last few points needed. And with Turkey taking up Serbia's focus, Croatia's only threat was Slovenia, who immediately attacked. But Croatia once again defied odds, fending off Slovenia's manic attempt to shut Croatia down, and have begun pushing back. Expect nothing, but hope for a miracle.

Week rating: 7.8/10

Honorable Mentions: USA, Chile

LOSERS

Just barely good enough: France, Saudi Arabia

B5 (NR) Turkey

Perhaps Turkey has gotten a few lucky breaks because of Bulgaria's current focus. That has allowed them to take a few provinces from their hated rival. That's good, but Serbia's onslaught far outweighs any benefit they've seen. Although they've managed to encircle Serbia's main front in Turkey, they've been unable to stop Serbian forces head-on; Turkey has done alright sneaking around and suppressing revolts, but has not been able to gain initiative, and with Serbia and Romania at peace, expect all Serbian forces to be focused on slaughtering Turks. And there's not much Turkey can do about it.

Week rating: 4.1/10

B4 (B3) Indonesia

Last week was bad enough, losing a few provinces in Australia and all. But at least the main front against America was held, as Indonesia successfully pushed the Americans out. But this week was much different, with American troops finally able to make some progress into Indonesian lands. On top of all that, Australia hasn't gone away, staging their own attacks and recapturing all of their nation, as well as launching a successful offensive on the Lesser Sunda Islands. Indonesia has already lost its gains in Philippines and Malaysia, but it may lose its independence as well very soon.

Week rating: 3.1/10

B3 (H2) Ukraine

Time to start asking Russia for the land back! Despite a brief glimmer of hope for the Ukrainians when Hungary lost its land bridge between home and the front, once Hungary reconnected with little effort it was clear who would win. And logic doesn't lie, as Ukraine has taken one beating after another. After an ill-fated attack on Russia (maybe you guys don't get along, but come on, it's Russia!), nothing good has happened to Ukraine since, despite what appeared to be a successful wipe of Moldova. There's just no way Ukraine can win sans a miracle. Basically, if ol' Russia doesn't help out, Ukraine is screwed. Funny how that works...

Week rating: 1.7/10

B2 (B4) Japan

Even the arrival of British hero Greatmoff couldn't save Japan from total annexation. (I gave you a plug bro) Japan has literally nowhere to go, with their one strong tie, to America, torn apart due to political events in the last few weeks. Once Taiwan had the reassurance that America was no longer watching out for Japan, the fate of the Japanese was sealed. Not only a military disaster but a political snafu as well, Japan has no one to save them, or even interested in saving them. They don't have a Bulgaria that will jump around the world to liberate them, and without such a friend, Japan is at the mercy of Taiwan. Or lack thereof.

Week rating: 0.4/10

B1 (NR) Argentina

At least with Japan their fate was inevitable, so it was easier to accept. With Argentina, they had legitimate opportunities to stop the CoT attacks. Had Argentina defeated Bulgaria at the landing site or even sacrificed a province to seal up the Bulgarian attack path, Argentina would at the very least have some time to recuperate, and possibly counterattack. After all, Argentina is strong enough to defeat the minor powers around it, no problem. But with Bulgaria involved, Argentina has simply been overwhelmed, unable to do a single thing to stop Bulgaria's move to the neighborhood.
