Weekly Power Rankings #10; Death of an Empire
Shoi12
Welcome to another edition of the eRepublik Power Rankings! Here are the rules; the efforts of the top five countries this week will be recognized, and the five worst performances will be mocked, no exceptions! Countries are recognized for many things, including successful defending, securing strong alliances, and, of course, conquering rivals. Without further ado, let's begin!

WINNERS
1 (4) Greece
Greece has kept the engines revving, and so far, no one's been able to stop them. After their successful landing on the Montenegrin Coast, the Greek army repelled a Serbian push to knock them out of the Balkans, and counter-attacked, taking back Bosnia's East Srpska Republic into EDEN hands. With Croatia and Bosnia giving support on other fronts, Greece is poised to strike into the heart of Serbia, and a wipe is not only possible, but seems almost destined to happen, following many close and crushing defeats in the past few weeks. Greece looks to capture Belgrade by the end of the week.
Week rating: 9.8/10
2 (NR) United Kingdom
The cockroach lives still! Perhaps it was Polish support, or just simply increased British nationalism because of the Olympics, but once again, the United Kingdom has risen from the ashes less than two weeks after being wiped for the umpteenth time. While never being the strongest of nations on their own, their allies have once again bailed the Redcoats out, and the Brits don't mind at all. With arch-rival France wiped and resistance wars transferring lands back to mother England at a speedy rate, it looks as if the United Kingdom has prevailed over their southern neighbors. Again.
Week rating: 9.0/10
3 (NR) Portugal
If Britain is the cockroach of ONE, then Portugal is the much better looking cockroach of EDEN. Despite continuous Spanish efforts to secure all of Iberia, Portugal has remained resilient, and with Spain capturing their former colonies in Venezuela, Portugal has been mostly unchallenged for most of the week, with Alentejo and Centro being recaptured with little effort. With at least a few more days of uninhibited reconquest for Portugal, they're taking advantage of every second of 'peace' they have. While a Spanish refocus on Portugal could throw a monkey wrench into the plans, for the moment Portugal's getting their lands back on a silver platter.
Week rating: 8.3/10
4 (1) Indonesia
Fresh off a decisive victory over the Aussies, Indonesia has turned its attention to the pesky Malaysians in the north, and simply overwhelmed their outmatched foe. While it's true that Indonesia has little competition in Oceania, there's no denying their accomplishments within the last few weeks, defeating Australia then wiping Malaysia in mere hours. Now with Malaysia out of the way, it's very likely that the Philippines are next in the sea empire's path, and with little backup coming, it looks like another bundle of land waiting to be claimed by the Indonesians.
Week rating: 8.2/10
5 (B3) Finland
Finland didn't conquer much land, but the political landscape worked out perfectly for the Finns. Despite losing the frontier it had had a while ago, with borders on Latvia and Lithuania, Finland is in much better shape than before. Due to Russia's entry into the war, the Finns finally have an ally in the war, and Russia's presence will surely warrant some attention. Now, if Finland wipes Estonia once again, Latvia will be in no position to face both nations at once, seeing Russia's superior strength. For a week of nearly status quo, little more could have gone the Finns' way.
Week rating: 7.6/10
Honorable Mentions: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Paraguay
LOSERS
Just barely good enough: Malaysia, Germany
B5 (NR) Russia
Mother Russia conquered all of Latvia, only recently losing its landbridge with the western regions. Russia successfully repelled an attack from the traitor Ukraine. So why on Earth are they a loser? Russia lost a powerful ally in Ukraine, and the Russians have to deal with them and 2/3 of ABC at the same time! Russia honestly picked the worst time possible to battle Ukraine. There's simply no way that a three-front war is ever recommended, no matter Russia's strength. Although other circumstances may help out the Russians, the wars they're in may cost Russia big time without allied support.
Week rating: 3.9/10
B4 (NR) Ukraine
Normally when a nation switches sides, it's smart to make sure that even if the allies it betrays in the process become hostile, there are some other nations willing to help out. But Ukraine apparently was absent that day in class, and now they're stuck with global discontent. Although most nations tended to side with the Ukrainians against their Moldovan neighbors, with Ukraine's betrayal, any credibility they had was shot. The result? A three-front war with a pissed Russia, a super-pissed Moldova, and a Bulgaria eager to reclaim its old lands. Hi-five Ukraine!
Week rating: 2.8/10
B3 (NR) Venezuela
Poor Venezuela can never hold onto its sovereignty for long, can they? While there are no friendly faces waiting for them in Terra or EDEN, Spain's attack to recapture their old colonies officially puts them in no man's land, with no allies to look for anywhere. All this culminated into a war against Spain one on one, and they're just a tad outmatched, losing half of their territory in a mere week. With Spain looking to gain 100/100 bonuses, it doesn't look as if Venezuela will be shown any mercy. If they don't get any support from someone soon, the dark pink will be gone from the map for a long time.
Week rating: 2.1/10
B2 (B2) Serbia
Serbia's made an indent on its spot on the sofa, with a third straight appearance in the B2 slot. Once again, the Serbs missed countless opportunities to stop the EDEN forces gunning for their heads. Had Serbia taken the Montenegrin Coast, Greece would be gone from the battle, leaving only a cleaning up of Italy and Bosnia to go. But instead, Greece held the province, and successfully took the East Srpska Republic, though the Serbs had ample time to RW a wall there. If there's any strategy that the Serbs are using, it's all Greek to me. Ahaha. 'Cuz, yeah. All Greek to...yeah I'll stop.
Week rating: 1.6/10
B1 (B5) France
Well of course France is in the bottom spot! Due to a mixture of factors, including little Terran support, Poland, resistance wars, Poland, poor communication, Poland, the war in Russia, Poland, and not to mention Poland, Poland, and Poland, France was wiped clean off the map. To be perfectly honest, this war was doomed to fail since the Poles decided to intervene, but the pace at which the French fell is incredible! If the French didn't wear such flashy clothing, perhaps they wouldn't be such a target. The only positive they had the entire week was that most players were smart enough not to waste their hits for a lost cause.

Hmmm! Nice analyze.

All hell breaks loose in Germark, proving once again that a union module is needed x2
@ Shoi, The revolt in the German region could've been Germany trying to make a land barrier between them and the UK. I mean, imagine if they were wiped by the UK !?!?
I don't think words can describe how disgraceful that would be.
Nice article though, like usual. (And yes, I do in fact read your paper)
Wow, you are way off with your sources regarding Spain invading Venezuela. It is of public knowledge that their is an agreement to temporarily loan regions to Spain for a month or so. That was the reason of the NE as well as to have a strong ally to help out with surrounding stronger enemies. Mpp's will be restored soon after.
Hope the rest of the information you put up here is better filtered. Specially because I enjoy reading these articles.
You forgot to mention Poland 😃
~hyuu~
France were offered a deal where they would be given back regions, they turned it down through arrogance again...so Poland wiped them \o/
With the Northen borders to the UK off limits and Poland occupying three quaters of their land it'll be nice for them to taste a wipe for once. Richly deserved.
@Guri1000 When was the deal made? I've only been around for a couple of months, and if such a deal was made a long time ago, I may have missed the news. It's hard to get to get information these days, especially of old deals 😛
very entertaining!
