WAR in our time
Rest in PEACE
PEACE GC is dead. This was the oldest, longest, largest alliance in the whole of the new world. It was part of all three world wars, but it has been declining for some months now. Since most of its major nations withdrew from the grouping over the past few days, it was almost inevitable to see the collapse of the once all-powerful bloc.
The political effects of this day are already becoming apparent. Indonesia and Hungary destroyed the alliance by attacking Malaysia and Slovakia respectively. War is good in this game, and Hungary personifies it today. Now they are free of the shackles of the alliance, they can become the warmongering nation we all knew they were. They have just invaded Austria. Hungary and Austria were both members of PEACE, but now PEACE is gone, Hungary can freely invade.
The views in Hungary recently have become more and more nationalistic. Many of its citizens want to re-create the old Hungarian Empire, and the invasion of Burgenland is just the start of this.
Once a part of us, always a part of us
The concept of real-life nationalism in eRepublik is a fascinating issue, and one I have always wanted to study. Here is a brief outline of the subject for those who want to know:
The Hungary we all know and love comes from the Treaty of Trianon of 1920, at the end of WW1. As many of you will know, this lead to the creation of an independent Czechoslovak state. However, Hungary lost over 70% of its historic lands in the treaty, leaving it with what it owns in Real life today.
To see easily what I mean, I made this quick map below:

This shows, using eRepublik territories, land lost by Hungary in the treaty, in modern Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Ukraine. This is why Hungary is invading Burgenland, they call it Őrvidék, and it was part of Hungary until 1920. That also explains the invasion of Slovakia, and why it was so important for them. Expect the rest of the former Kingdom to follow.

Interesting thing to observe, truly it is.
Whats boring, is that theres no magyars in Moravia
well, I don't want to say it, but we once were a part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire... So I guess we will soon be invaded as well...
yep but we were part of Habsburg side, as inheritanted lands of that family and regarding hungarian attack on burgenland, that union wont work, looks like
Very good article!
Very good article.

Voted,
Lots of other nationalism, but, not much czech nationalism xD You dont see the czechs claiming silesia and the region that Poland annexed during WW2..
well, I don't want to say it, but we once were a part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire... So I guess we will soon be invaded as well... probably not, Bohemia was added to Austria due to marriage. A majority of the Kingdom of Hungary was already there before it became part of Austro-Hungarian. Hungarians have no RL claims on Bohemia. Some hungarian nationalists want Austro-Hung empire again, but, I see a majority just want "Hungarian" land.
Great stuff! Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself, but if it does, you've prepared us for it

Major thing those hungarian nationalists don't understand is that every nation wants it's own country. Yes, Trianon, was kinda unfair, but it was the only way to go. There would be civil war if Hungary hadn't been broken in several smaller countries, and that time Hungary occupied land with numerous minorities. And every country with strong minorities has problems - look at Belgium for instance. So it was far better for Hungarians to become small but united nation.
But yeah, there are some controversial things about Trianon - for example the fact that even territories with majority of Hungarians were given to Romania, Slovakia etc. But everything has it's flaws I guess.
Red_Baxter: Actually, I'm half Slovakian and half Hungarian, and I live in Moravia, so you're wrong.
And btw, PEACE isn't dead. Big countries just don't want to help small ones, and they leave so they don't have to. 100 Gold is just too much. Hungary, Russia, Indonesia etc. will just unite in a new alliance.

I just hope they wont conquest us just because of you xD

Oh my, even Serbia will get invaded by their Magyar saviours?
As for Czech nationalism, I dont see much of it. Czechia today is very free-market, pro-Western,open-minded and very secular.
That is easily seen in comparison with RL Poland and Slovakia.
However, you do have one nationalist, old-fashioned badass(in a cool way:) - Pres Vaclav Klaus. I think he's a cool leader.
I dont know if he's popular in CZ or not, so pls, dont rip me to shreds:P
I <3 Vaclav Klaus )
