Voting Record, Part I

Day 556, 23:01 Published in USA USA by stbob

Citizens of South Dakota,

As promised, here's my voting record to date, along with my thought process.

Serious Proposals
Donate 99999 USD to Congressional Budget Office.
Vote😛 Yes
Result: Passed, 51-0
Rationale: Standard money transfer from the treasury to the CBO to maintain the value of the USD.

Alliance with Germany.
Vote😛 No
Result: Rejected, 10-38
Rationale: While I personally believe we should protect Germany, this conflicts with our stated national policy of neutrality in the Sweden-Poland/Germany situation. Furthermore, the vulnerable position that Germany is in would likely mean the cost of forming an Alliance (30 Gold) would be wasted. Our previously activated MPPs with Germany against Sweden and Poland are not affected by the lapsing of our alliance with them. I would have liked to abstain, but Congressmen get XP for voting on proposals, so I waited until the outcome of the proposal was mathematically decided before casting my vote.

Alliance with Malaysia.
Vote😛 Yes
Result: Passed, 47-0
Rationale: Malaysia was funding both ends of the cost of this MPP, so I saw no reason not to pass this. Alliances are wonderful, especially when they are free.

Peace with Sweden.
Vote😛 No
Result: Passed, 24-22
Rationale: Sweden and Poland claim to be finished with further conquest of Germany, and Sweden reached out to propose a peace in the war triggered by their assault of Germany. However, shortly before this was proposed, Sweden began another assault (claiming it was their last). Poland followed with the opening of two more fronts after the proposal was initiated. I side with Germany in this matter personally, and think it should be the right of the eUS citizen to "fight their conscience" in this matter, despite the official military policy of neutrality. Enacting this peace would prevent that, and the fact that Sweden and Poland are suing for peace while simultaneously opening new fronts with Germany makes me question their sincerity.

Peace with Poland.
Vote😛 No
Result: Pending, 27-7
Rationale. I voted against this for the same reason I voted against the Peace proposal with Sweden. I should note that approximately 3 hours after this was proposed (the day after we got word the attacks on Germany were done), Poland opened another front in Germany, reaffirming my questions as to their sincerity in the matter.

XP Proposals
Brief backgroun😛 These proposals (commonly referred to as "Lulz Proposals") are put up to maximize XP gains for Congressmen. Each vote a Congressman casts on proposals gives 1 XP (just like election votes for everybody). A Congressman is allowed to make 2 proposals per term. With 51 Congressmen, there are 102 proposals that can be put up per term (not including the proposals that are under the jurisdiction of the President). This is significantly more than the number that is usually needed to conduct business, especially given the narrow range of things we can propose. Thus, occasionally, Congressmen will put up proposals to burn through these otherwise wasted assets to maximize XP gain. Because these are put up with no intention of passing, I will not give a rationale for my votes on these.

Edited on 5/30 at 21:15 for convenience to add my vote on Peace with Poland as it is the same issue as Peace with Sweden.
