Upcoming Local Elections: Cardiff

7 Day 272, 08:21 United Kingdom
With the local elecions in under two days, I thought a summary of the Cardiff elections was well overdue.

The main candidates for the Cardiff local elections are:

PCP: Bremer
UKRP: Yet to be announced
TUP: Sir Graystar

The Western Mail caught up with Sir Graystar, and he agreed to do an interview with us.

Western Mail: What do you say to people who are writing you off due to your recent arrival on eRepublik?

Sir Graystar: All I can say to those people is that I'm as passionate about this city as anyone else. I think that I can make a difference and do a much better job than the other candidates.

WM: What are the main issues this election is going to be fought over?

SG: I belive that the main issue is unemployment. Many people in our city our unemployed, and if there is still mass unemployment at the end of my term I will consider it a failure. I will endeavour to get jobs for all our citizens.

WM: Why are you right for the job?

SG: I'm dedicated, and I love this city. I love having an active role in the running of the city, and I will communicate with the people on all issues. If anyone wants to contact me about any issue in the city, they can PM me and I will get back to them within the day.

WM: Cardiff is currently run by the PCP. Why will life be better under The Unity Party?

SG: The Unity Party is here to take Cardiff and the UK into a new era. Together we propose a government run in the best interests of Cardiff, and the people will have a big say in what we do.

WM: Thankyou for your time.

SG: No problem, I'm always up for a discussion.

In the interests of fairness, Bremer has been offered an interview. We await a response. The interview will be posted when we recieve a reply.

Being a good mayor has nothing to do with political affiliation. It doesn\'t matter which party each candidate is from.

Although a party doesn\'t make a mayor, what the major does slightly depends on what party they come from, and what their political views are. A lot of people will vote for the candidate from a certain party, because they know what the party stands for.

Roles of a mayor: gift citizens, help new citizens find their feet, encourage activity, identify multis, report GM complaints, encourage poulation distribution

How does a candidates political views affect their ability to do any of the above?

Cardiff is not under a communist regime. That comment demonsrates how little you know about what a mayor actually does. I do not doubt your enthusiasm and you may well make a very good mayor. But to slag off the present mayor because he is a member of pcp is a poor start to a campiagn. It would be better to concentrate on what you will do and how you will do it rather than fall into the trap of playing the party affilitation game. Save that for the general election. Do you think communst mayors only lok after their own? I actively encouraged 25 citizens to move to Newcastle fro London because I knew they would get a better chance in a region with fewer people. Very few of them were in the pcp. So as a result I changed Newcastle from a region that had 80% pcp citizens to one with a lot less, and thereby may have reduced the chances of a pcp maor being elected when I stood down. I did it because I think the role of mayor is a vital one and all citizens should be cared for whatever political party they choose to join.

I don\'t believe I said anything about communists. If you look at the article you will see that the interviewer actually says \'communist regime\'. Knowing that this was not true and regime was not the correct word to use, I avoided saying regime myself.

A mayor\'s political views will make him choose what party he joins, and the will also shape how he runs his city. Surely therefiore the two are linked.

Bob, I accept that those things have little to do with political views. However, other things do. Say I was in a party that did not agree with war, and wanted the world to be peaceful. I would then not encourage military training in my city.

I will make sure the wording \'communist regime\' is changed.

I just want to say good luck.

But I would like to advise you that you made a not-too-smart play.
If you want to become mayor, you could start by helping Cardiff, being in the Welsh Council.
