TUP: A Fork in the Road

Day 383, 01:32 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by malta_1990

It might be a cliche, but a fork in the road is in my opinion, the best way to describe the current situation at TUP. Growing out of an external forum, TUP started out as an odd party called Now El313ct Winners with few policies. Fast forward 5 months to June 2008 and TUP reached its high point with Final Destiny winning the Presidential election.

A slump in the party's activity ensued in July, despite the popularity of FD's presidency, mainly due to most of the 313ers going inactive and this was the same period in which I joined TUP. It was the 4th largest party then, and with other new, active and vibrant citizens joining TUP, the party was on a roll. Too many names to mention, but with a "new generation" of members, our membership went from strength to strength, with strong policies, and with the return of FD, we were once agan a great political force in the eUK.

Now, onto the recent CP Election. I will be honest about this. I admit that I voted for Dish, to exercise my democratic rights, as he was my preferred candidate. I also agree that since TUP had no willing candidate, the coalition was a good idea for this single election, however, I am outraged by and I 100% disagree with the 4 month "coalition contract". I want TUP to win elections because of our policies, not because of some contract which in essence buys a vote or because its "our turn" according to a contract.

Now, I'm not blaming Squiddy or anything. I do not think he was doing this for his own personal gain, but in an ideal world it should have been done differently using a proper discussion and vote. We are a democratic party, not a power-grabbing monster.

In response to this situation, I have decided to run for the next PP elections with a Plan of Reform which aims to achieve necessary changes in the party's structure to encourage and enhance the democratic principles we stand for. I'm currently finalising my manifesto and will publish my plans once its done. I've got a concrete plan for the PP election to reform this party and ensure we get into government on our own merits not from a dodgy deal which undermines our democratic principles.
