Tough decisions: someone's gotta make 'em!
Ines Schumacher
Brazil has declared war on Australia and (predictably) people are screaming blue murder.
Let's get this straight from the beginning: this was always going to happen. One way or the other. Let me tell you a little story.
South Africa has been occupied for a long long time. Northern Cape and Western Cape are practically Indonesian. Indonesians live there, they work there, they speak their language their. So when the new Australian president sai😛
"Throw anotha shrimp on the barbie, Sheila, we're going to declare war on Indonesia in some waaay I don't even know yeat but probably by breaking our NAP and taking those regions for awselves", Indonesia was never going to be happy about it. Especially when Cozza piled some insults on top of that and shot them off to Indonesia.
So PHOENIX decided to shut Australia up. But because Indonesia had an NAP and weren't going to backstab Australia, they told Brazil to do it instead.
At least, this is how I imagine it went. It might not have, my imagination has always been a little crazy especially the part about the shrimps. Anyway, something else I imagine is that Brazil would've gotten to Australia. One way or the other.
So when Brazil offered this contract to us to "help" us out of the PTO (which it still will), I considered it a first warning. I considered it a peaceful gesture from Brazil, telling us we could do it the easy, cheap way or the hard, expensive way.
And I know this will yield to a lot of accusations of rolling over for PHOENIX and taking it up the ass (trust me, I've heard it all before, those super alliances can be nasty, especially about a female), but we can't deal with multi PTO channers and a serious war with our two neighbours at the same time, none of which we have a MPP or NAP with and one of which we have an open war with.
So I proposed the offer to the congress, had it passed it in all democratic ways and implemented it. I knew the war was a possibility. But I also know Australia is in EDEN. They have existing MPPs with USA and Canada. And as we get told (at every opportunity) "America puts its allies first" and all that noble stuff.
I have no doubt Australia can put up a good fight. I would never have put them in this position if I didn't think they could take Brazil on. And face it: they wanted to take on Indonesia. Alone. Fighting Brazil with a military powerhouse behind them is "nothing" compared to that. 😉
So don't call be stupid. I thought it through, I guessed this would happen. I said it to a lot of people in a lot of different conversations. I said it in messages, IRC, some comments in newspapers.
But why didn't I trumpet it out all over the forum and newspapers? Easy. Every country needs a fall guy. A scape goat. And if I need to be that person for eSouth Africa to make everyone feel better about themselves, that's fine. It's why I was elected. I make the tough decisions for this country.
Yes, congress passed it. Yes, congress knew this could happen. Yes, they didn't bring it up. Yes, we chose South Africa over Australia. Yes, I will be the one all the hate gets directed at. So c'mon, give me the best you got. I can take it.
And when the plan falls into place you don't even need to apologise. Yes, that's right the plan is going ahead. We will get our regions returned, we will get the damages due to us. Believe it or not, Brazil is going to keep their promise to us.
Just another day in the life of the president. Bring on the hate.

Thank you Ines, It's appreciated that you have considered eAustralia in this issue. Also, It was nice to know that Sol was given a heads-up about this, so we may have considered ramifications earlier.
/sarcasm
It seems those I honor the most are, unfortunately, getting pushed into the very corners they didn't want to be pushed into, by superalliances pushing buttons to start World War IV.
You and Japanese President Dokomo need to go have a beer and a chat, it seems like you two have something in common.
Arjay Phoenician, you are so blind to the world it's amazing.😒
By the way...

I told you so
Well Ines, it was a tough decision, and we were going to get involved with Brazil either way.
I don't blame you at all for this.
Very informative, Ines. Thank you for posting this.
no comment ;/ you are not neutral now
😃
😞
Considering all the idiocy pouring out of eAus lately, I say, quite frankly, my dear... bravo.
Blanemcc: And I told you so, Mr Insults-are-a-boy's-best-friend-man. 😛
Garven, of course you'd feel that way. You're not in my position.
I'm feeling the love people, keep it coming.
You sold our allies down the river for absolutely no reason but to gain political influence and power with your "Golden 10" policies. Frankly, you suck. You've lost us an ally (perhaps many), you've tarnished our reputation and again, to be frank, you're a tactless pig. This is pointless.
I wonder why are you in an alliance when you care so little for your allies and you didn't inform Sol in any form and didn't even try to work something out together with Australia and the rest of your allies. At least according to my knowledge.
Instead you just let Brazil through and even made it cheaper for them to get to Australia as "they are EDEN so they can take the beating anyhow".
Australia is acting quite weirdly lately but it's no justification for this.
And Hekter btw you wanted to kick Australia out of Sol for a lot less than this.
It was tough. It was also wrong.
You didnt validate the contract and that is YOUR fault and nobody elses.
You should just resign. You have successfully destroyed SA.
Ines you did the right thing. Your own country is more important!
Uhhh, okay, so why didn't you say so in your last article? Not a single word about the whole Australia affair in the article in which you announced the decision.
Markus, this will get our own country destroyed eventually. We have nobody to protect us, our regions are now fair game.
So far this is going good. I think it will all work out for the better of eSA. It was a hard choice but it was the better choice.
>Garven, of course you'd feel that way. You're not in my position.
The sovereignty of his country is being threatened, of course he's in your position, one that eSA put him in.
@Nagyzee
Technically I didn't, because the eAus government knew what they were planning--there wasn't any "it may happen" about it. I've also revised my opinion on that, and I think if you remember correctly I wasn't exactly stable during those last few days.
Pissing off all of the allies that hold your balls in their hands is never ever, ever, ever, better for our future.
Like I said, Ines knows what she's doing.
She thought very seriously about this, and chose what she thought was right.
Sure it's what I call a "high-risk, high-reward" plan, but it honestly wouldn't of worked out for us if she didn't choose it.
Gregoir: Cause Brazil didn't declare war on Australia the minute they got KZN. There was no reason for me to believe they would do it like 12 hours later. And it wasn't on my mind because I didn't think it would happen.
"Ines you did the right thing. Your own country is more important!"
Brazil obviously cant take AUS alone. Most liekly it will go down like this:
Brazil attacks W. AUS
A few hours later Indonesia attacks N territory.
Eventually, once Indonesia controlls all of AUS, they will have nothing to stop them from taking over SA. With Brazil on one side and Indo controlled AUS on the other, it'd only make sense for them to conquer SA as well.
Ines, you are FAIL.
I admire Schums' guts.
As if "I didn't think" is a proper excuse! You are president! YOU MUST THINK, AT LEAST! Despite all of the hype surrounding your name Ines, I and many others have serious doubts about your abilities as a leader and this incident and your admitted lack of thought gives weight to all of those sentiments. You are a failure and your previous successes (most likely the result of luck or circumstance) likewise fail to absolve you. I hope to see your resignation in the coming days but considering the substantial ego you've laughably acquired I doubt I will.
Your still wrong exilious 😛
Wow, Ines, exaggerate a guys' actions much? I don't think Cozza has ever said "Throw a shrimp on the barbie" and the rest of the quote is off as well, but spin it however you see fit. It's your conscience, not mine.
nice article, congratz.
"Markus, this will get our own country destroyed eventually. We have nobody to protect us, our regions are now fair game."
Are you stupid. Our regions are always far game. At any point in time both Brazil and Indo can decide that they want to go against the contracts and take back all of SA. There is NO valid contract in this game anymore and you know it. Brazil could have just come through and taken the territories, but now we get them paid for and a Q5 defense system since they broke the contract.
Well, well, well..
/me sits back, hands-behind-head.
So, genius gentlemen, instead of spouting the hate at the lady, why don't you go right ahead and enlighten us females...
What, EXACTLY, would you have done, in the same circumstances? (Assuming you would have ever had enough balls or value to be voted as president, of course)
/me waits, with popcorn, and a notepad.
Oh yeah, I love a little testosterone-fuelled education, I really do.
/me shuffles across to make a space for Schums beside me.
Come on Sexy Santa, join me, and let's hear it from the boys?
*waiting, bated breath*
Ines, this is a mess, but I support you still.
What needs to be done is a clear up, and a good clear up at that, we need to restructure, reform and rebuild bridges, before it's too late.
Gentlementlemen
>What, EXACTLY, would you have done, in the same circumstances?
Gone to Sol first?
schums, I consider you a friend around here and I've worked closely with you in cabinet and on other gov initiatives but this is one decision I just can't support.
The contract was heavily flawed and all congressmen from both countries should have been informed that they needed to sign it before any action was taken. I mean, surely we should have learnt from our friends in the eUS in their trial v ePortugal.
Did we try discuss this whole anti-PTO effort with Sol and could they not perhaps have offered us financial aid to recoup the money lost in handing off our regions?
Did we not consider the ramifications that this would have on our foreign affairs with both eAustralia and our alliance, Sol?
There are just too many issues with this whole plan that IMO could have been handled differently.
Ines: But apparently the deal was clear. Brazil wanted to attack Australia and was going to go through SA, the easy or the hard way. Yet in the last article the only reasoning you gave for the declaration of war was Brazil's offer of "help" against a looming PTO (which, admittedly, I don't know much about, but it all seems a little strange to me considering the SA party rankings; which are the PTO party/ies and how are they a threat to the establishment?)
Now, don't get me wrong, I follow your reasoning. SA would be pretty much helpless against an attack, so going along with Phoenix against Australia might indeed have been the best choice from our perspective. But I find the way in which you chose to leave all of us in the dark about the real reason for the war declaration a little unsettling. You could have been honest with us, but now it looks like you tried to hide something..
good article
Relax! Takeit eeeeeasy! Give Ines a brake, she has a plan or wil think of one. . . . .

Well... that may be the proper recourse for mindless sheep, to simply follow the democratically elected Shepard regardless, but luckily for us we are not mindless sheep. I and every other democratically minded individual find it a tad more expedient TO think and TO discuss policy and its prudence. If we all simply follow Ines's lead I can assure you that we will all end up at the bottom of a cliff somewhere.
You.
Rock.
Sooo.
Bloody.
Hard.
And Exilious or should I say , Ajay Bruno , you forgot about MPP's lol .
So the contract wasn't ratified then? I was pretty sure it said Brazil couldn't use any of those regions for militaristic purposes...
Megafail. Madame President you should fall on your sword and resign to keep your last shred of dignity before you are impeached. You treacherously gave Brazil 3 regions and got nothing in return. South Africa is now a laughing-stock to the same degree as the UK. South Africa has now alienated all of its potential friends, and is reduced to being Brazil's lap dog, that it plays with, orders around, and kicks when it feels like it.
Ndvanwhatsyourname:
1. Not only are we getting the three regions back, a Q5 hospital, and a Q5 DS around the 5th of January, but....
2. Ines knew his was the best choice for eSA. eBrazil would of just plowed through us to get to eAustrailia.
While I do not necessarily agree with hurting a neighbor, its one of those situations where its them or us. I hope this all works out.
"You could have been honest with us, but now it looks like you tried to hide something.."
Now , if she had told you what was going on right away , that sir would of given EDEN more planning for defending Australia , it's simply counter-productive my friend .
>Not only are we getting the three regions back, a Q5 hospital, and a Q5 DS around the 5th of January, but....
you realise the contract is totally invalid including those parts right?
Brazil has already told Ines that they would honor that part of the agreememt, regardless of if it's invalid or not.
I bet EDEN and Sol won't be very happy about this. And I'm sure they're going to let us know about it.
