This is Hungary!
Inspired by the article by MoonlightShadow about the differences between the nations image IRL and in eRepublik; and also inspired about Kape's article about Sweden, I would like to give you all a glimpse of eHungary – as I see it.
I would be interested if others would make similar articles about their countries... who knows it might be interesting to read about each other, while we cannot have any fights with each other for now. 🙂
MoonlightShadow cikkere reflektálva írtam ezt a kis cikket - azért angolul, mert elsősorban nem nekünk, hanem a külföldieknek szól. Egyfajta leírása annak, ahogy én eMagyarországot látom.
This is Hungary!
In short, we, eHungarians are argumentative, noisy, proud to the extremes, nationalistic and above all love breaking and keeping records. We would for example love if Spain and Mexico would finish their war, just so ours with Romania would be the oldest still going on – besides that war keeping a number of other records too, like the longest battle, the bloodiest battle, the most users online and so on - it is almost more important to us than the war itself. We also like to brag a lot about having at a time the only official kingdom on eRepublik, the biggest baby-boom, the most Media Moguls and a number of other, less sensational records in the game.
But back to facts and attitudes.
eHungary with the recent baby-boom is growing from a role of a small country into a power to be reckoned with. It is a fact and it is an attitude too – our ego was always big, but in a not too far future, we will have basis for it too. It is true that a few tanks do more damage than an average country’s population – but not when you compare a few Field Marshals to a few thousand Lieutenants and Captains. So time works for us, and we know it. I only hope we have the patience for it – it is not one of our strongest traits.
In heart most Hungarians are a bit anarchists too, even if they would never admit it. We cheerfully love disagreements up to the point of serious disputes and piques – only in great danger we truly unify and work together – but then we are really a force. Fortunately for others it rarely happens, we simply cannot resist a good argument, even if it goes up to a shouting match and insults that eventually lead to serious breaks.
Nationalist to the bone… you really shouldn’t get into an argument with a Hungarian about much of Europe’s history – we will always know it better.
😛Most Hungarians are fiercely patriotic and caring very little about other people’s perceived rights or history – the so-called great Hungary is about written in our collective heart, and game realities are really going against the grain for most of us – galling and frustrating at the same time.
Forgive and forget is simply not in our nature. You can insult a Hungarian and he will not show it – until the time comes and revenge will be done. Our memory goes far and loses no perceived insult whatsoever. In that we are willing to use all means to achieve, even though generally we have higher morals and stick to certain values. Also to be ridiculed, even in humor is the greatest insult one can make to us… our image is very important to us.
Paranoia might be a too strong word, but for sure a Hungarian will not likely to trust anyone easily. We always demand assurances and penalty clauses and trusting somebody’s word is not natural to us. Plainly we always suspect a deeper plot, and mostly we are right to.
🙂
We have few true friends for our nature is not an easy one to bear with – only with Indonesians we built such ties as to be called a comraderie, for with them we have no historical quarrels, no conflicting interest and most importantly no neighborhood; with Turkey, Poland and maybe Russia we have an IRL-spawned liking towards each other. With Romania we have a quite interesting love-hate relationship; its duality never ceases to amaze me, for it is truly unique - it is like we all feel the connection, but mostly we deny it from the bottom of our collective hearts – on both sides.
🙂
So… take it or leave it: This is Hungary!

given the fact you write tThis is Hungary as you see it,
it would be nicer to have it taht way in the title as well.
Quicksilver:
You are a very bad as a politician,but....much more better (fantastic and extremely good)journalist🙂
Պարանոիա? Միֆելե պարանոիա???
V.O.T.E.D™
Nice 😉
true
"the so-called great Hungary is about written in our collective heart"
I thought you were a moderate 🙂
By the way you should use spell check, in these lengthy articles all moguls make mistakes.
Good job Quicksilver. I am waiting now the replica of MoonlightShadow here. You are working as a team, aren't you ? 🙂
It is not ironical or joking. Just want to see a so good comment as you got on his article. Romanians and hungarians could make good things together.
Of course Dacianl,if you give us our territory back,VERY QUICKLY🙂
If not...it's your decision, but in this case, another war is not too far away, and you know what will happen if you have to fight on a 2or 3 fronts war again🙂
Marginal... I don't think they will the same mistake twice. We should really brag a little less about our meager achievements and instead make plans for all the most unlikely scenarios. I do so hope the government does exactly that.
Daciani, I know but it depends on a great many things. 🙂
As for MoonlightShadow's article... I love good inspiration 'cos it makes me write good articles. 🙂
Romania and Hungary could be the greatest allies. There is only the issue of trust.
Well this is all just stereotypes. Or may I'm not a real hungarian. All people are different. You can't tell a country that it is like this and this.
Zoli: neither of us is strong in that field. Especially when it concerns each other.
Balazs, I know all the shit about every man is different and so on - believe me you CAN describe a country's main charasteristics, even though probably nobody will say that he/she is such and so.
Good one.

The mental models used by eHungarians to interpret the eWorld resemble a great deal the famous AT-5931 ‘Munkácsy’ TV set made by Videoton, well, certainly to the extent that they are black & white, too.
eHungarians have been donating large amounts of gold to the state - something we expect (sometimes even strongly demand) to happen the other way around in real life.
eHungarians probably own more land firms established in non high resource regions, than any other enation in eWorld.
eHungary also holds the record of having the most field marshals - in a neighbouring country.

"eHungary also holds the record of having the most field marshals - in a neighbouring country." 😃😃😃
You have the point🙂
Funny,but not so funny🙂
Or....Indonesia have much more FM than Romania I think s😇
Congrats Hungary for tommorow(15 march) for Independece Day (I think, sorry if i'm wrong). Have a great one.
slabutzen: it is in fact an 'Almost Independence Day'. I we had won the 1848-49 War of Indepedendece, yes, it would. But we failed then. I can hardly find a real independence day in Hungary - perhaps because regaining our independence was the same act as we lost more than a half of the country.
Quicksilver, I'm quite grateful to you because of this article. Interestingly enough, a single word get to my mind when reading: 'lieutenant', and suddenly the ethymology of the word became clear to me 😃 (lieu tenant from French).
Voted!
Long live to the Lands of the Holy Crown!!!
*LOL* Hungary sounds like Finland to me!
Stubborn, proud and can't really start to care until his country is occupied, his wife taken by soldiers and of course his bottle stolen..
If Tandenfeldt would write a 'This is Finland' article the reaction in the sauna would probably be 4 hours of pure silence and then a mutual understanding to attack what ever big country there is to attack in order to get occupied again! 😃
Misho....... 😃DDDDDDDDDDDDD
Actually, not surprising. We are related the Finns and us. 🙂
Interesting article. I hope this trend grows and the leading journalists of each eNation will publish something similar. We spend so much time warring against each other, it would be great if eRep players actually gained some understanding of each other.
"Forgive and forget is simply not in our nature."
Unless our politicians don't do something stupid, the Hun-Ro war will never end 🙂
As a true Hungarian I must disagree with You Quicksilver in some 😃DD, and I strongly agree with other ones 🙂

@Quicksilver - ''With Romania we have a quite interesting love-hate relationship; its duality never ceases to amaze me, for it is truly unique - it is like we all feel the connection, but mostly we deny it with all our collective hearts – on both sides. 🙂''
i totaly agree because i feel the same.
I like Polish people, i admire the Jews but I like, admire and respect Hungarians.
I hope to go on and see the Romanians and Hungarians will have common projects based on trust and respect and I think this game could be a step in this direction.
@Quicksilver - respect for you, so voted
We are not relatted to finns, they only say it. 😃
An alliance with romania would be hard. Not becouse we dont trust but becouse we should leave our current allies, and i guess that would be harder.
Devilarcher.
We won. But then the idiocity of UK came and the "holy alliance" sent 200k russians onto uus so we dont destroy the balance of europe by becoming free.
flik: I also hope it. I know that about everything works against it but maybe with time... and yes, such small steps like this game will get it closer than anything else.
I hope this becomes a trend Quicksilver!
Nice to read a bit about Hungary as a nation.
Yes, I do hope others would pick up the thread... it is worth to continue!
Very nice article, Quicksilver.
The only complaint I have is your conspicuous omission of two very prominent characteristics of the Hungarian people:
- hypocrisy
- imperialism
Maybe you can talk about those in your next article?
Voted.
Respect!
Voted&Subscribed.
We are not related to the Finns. The languages we speak are related, we are not. 🙂
Igaz szavak, kár, hogy magyarul nem írtad le.
Dear Slaubtzen!
15 March in 1848 was for us the largest National Day. This was a independece war against Austria (Habsburg Monarchy). This was a citizen war, because the national minority don't understand, that this war doesn't directed against.
sorry, I'm speak english not very well
Voted! I respect as adversary in the game, it is always more fun when you have someone to fight with.
Damn right u are Quicksilver. That love/hate statement is too Real. And eReal...
Unfortulatelly, it seems that "hate" part seems to win. But is no one fault. Is that old and damned history which no part want to forgot&forget.
lol @ chicco maybe you mistaken us for your western neighbor
This is Hungary? No...THIS IS SPARTAA!
Voted! Great article, reminds me why Quick is double Mogul 🙂
The love-hate relationship is oh so true 😁
The love-hate relationship is true 🙂
Congrats, Quicksilver!

Thank you my beloved enemies. 🙂
I do so love these paradoxes. 😛
A very, very good article. But I think we have a spawned liking towards each other with Italy, too. We helped each other in gaining independence, too, (oh, and here comes March 15th 😁) and we never really had a great reason to hate each other. 🙂
I, personally also look up to Finns, too.
And finally:
On March 12th, 2007, Hungary's parliament declared March 23 as the Day of Hungarian-Polish Friendship, with 324 votes in favour, no vote against and no abstention.
On March 16th, 2007, Polish parliament declared March 23 as the Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship.
Well.
This is hard to say, especially as a hungarian.
Real hungarians are hard to stand, but once you get to know them -if you can be bothered- you will understand.
Most of us don't give a shit about where are you from. Once you are a good person you are accepted. And you are allowed a few mistakes 'cause you're foreign.
The IRL differences from my part are HISTORY. That's about it, and though we don't forget, I tend to believe we do forgive. THAT is strenght - in me anyway.
Hungarians like guests, and care for them. It is a kind of pride to have your guests kept well, and it is ingrained in hungarians. If my guest feels good, I feel good.
Simple, really...
Among themselves... that's different. Hard to break away from IRL stuff, especially IRL.
We're a divided nation at the moment, but what do you expect after 40 years of communist rule. You couldn't get a phone in your home, only after sometimes 10years of waiting. They didn't want us to talk to each other so easily.
THAT is history as well- thanks whoever has ended it.
So. We are who we are, and I for myself define it by one thig: the language. And by that means we are related to 2 nations in europe, and a couple more in the world.
We are the most populous.
Like it or not, we are survivors.
And that's all about it.
Thanks,
Shue
I disagree!!!! Hungarians don't like to argue with each other!!!!!
😃
But seriously, geographiles are a minority. I, for one, don't have a big 100 years old map tattooed to my back, and old maps don't get me excited (sexually or otherwise) at all. (except pirate maps, but thats an other thing)
I like to think of our RL neighbors as brothers since we are both sitting under a very similar pile of sh.t. 🙂
We have many common problems: corruption, imbecile politicians, small (I hope), but loud hate mongers, unsolved relationships with our ethnic minorities, and last but not least: we were communist countries and we both struggle with this inheritance.
There are much more ties than spikes, and even if we have many historical (and not so late) wounds from each other most of which we never cared to heal, we always reached out for each other in our silent and insecure ways 🙂
Maybe proud is stronger than sense, but there always were and will be a few who understands that trust, friendship, respect and cooperation can bring happiness for most of us, while hate brought pain and will bring suffering to all.
This is just a game, and beating the sh.t out of each other is fun😃
But if you think of it, history is nothing more than a giant sex party! Every nation mixed with the others and we really are related with each other 😃
This is a good article.
I am sorry that I am not playing this game for a long time that I am not qualified to make an article about eCroatia. In regard to Hungary, Croatia and your country have a very complex history. After all Hungarian medieval kingdom which you are very proud of, has been indeed a joint Croatian-Hungarian Kingdom since 1102 until 1528.
We spent together centuries of fighting the Turks and good and bad of Hapsburg Monarchy, and in the last century we were both under communist regimes.
In this game Croatia and Hungary are in opposing alliances, but in real life Hungary is our best neighbour and its people are welcomed guests on our beautiful coast.
I hope that this game will never ruin the RL relationship between our nations.
