There is no point in retiring in eRepublik. It's just semantics.
Callumh123
Welcome eAustralia,
This issue is something that has been on my mind for a numbers of years but I have never gotten around to it till now. The concept of "retiring" or "stepping aside for a newer generation" is possibly the most vapid thing you could do on this game, seriously what is the point? All you are doing in my opinion is showing how vain a player you are.
Before you all come after blood, let me explain. Even from the start I have had a problem with word "retire" in this game. This is not real life, where retiring you receive super and sometimes a generous pension.
All you are really saying is "I can't be bothered playing anymore and want to offload the workload to new players while talking about how good the old days were and how horrible these new guys are". It's a detriment to the country really, there is nothing wrong in taking a few months or so off because real life got hectic or you grow bored of the game. But don't pass it off as anything other than that.
Now the even worst bit of rederick, "stepping aside for a new generation". In my many years of playing this game I've seen this sentence or one's similar that mean the same thing make the rounds. We are all players in this game, the only difference is that some have been playing longer then others and have more experience in most cases.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong giving younger players a go in cabinet, parties etc.. to give them experience but I have seen time and time again players that are encapsulated by this notion of grandeur that their time has come and now they must leave, like a movie or something. In reality, all you are doing is letting a group of inexperienced people take reigns of systems that they do not comprehend the intricacies of.
Also on this point, this notion of the elite guard. It was more of a v1/v2 thing but it still resonates today, that a group of people are running everything. That might be true, but there is some reasoning for that. The same people you see in cabinet each month etc.. they are the same mostly because they are DOING the work. If a fledgling CP candidate was making a cabinet, they would want the most reliable ministers doing the job.
Seems I rambled on a bit, so i'll leave it there. If you think this might be you, it probably is.
Callumh123,
ballin' yo.

hey cal.
all I hear from you in IRC, is how you like gay butt sex and how good the old days were....😛
does gay butt sex excuse you and fatty form this 😛
I do talk about how good the old days were, but it doesn't mean I'm not doing anything to bring them back.
heheheh....yes, you and flatty get close don;t you 😛
Ah the days where Cal and I would go away together camping in the mountains... Ahh good times.
i cant help but agreeing, as an old guard i have to say if there were active people doing their jobs id be happy to step aside and work on other things
unfortunately there arent.
One reason we do not is the lack of people in general and the failure to retain many potentials who can and are willing to do the work. This failure is due more to eAussie's history than it is to any other issue. Thus it falls regularly to the old guard to continue month after month. I'm sure many would prefer to "retire" and rest if they are weary.
venja a couple of years ago is a good example. He was our only MoF due to being the only one holding the position until it became weary drudgery. Then PJK (not the real politician) was brought in and venja could finally be replaced. New people are necessary to bring more life to a country, to a nation. That is why new ministers are a blessing more than they could ever be a curse.
I agree, however they should come up as Deputies and must show their competency.
That is a preference I share, but there have been a few who have been able to gain a ministry without having to be Deputies. CyberCasper is the most recent example. Also, PJK was venja's deputy for a month before succeeding him. That was at a time when there were those who could teach younger members.
I agree, however players like CC and PJK worked hard for what they got. There has been a lot of blown in players that have lasted a week which is the problem. There is always exceptions to the rule.
As Deputies. There aren't that many examples of first-time direct ministers (except in the Education/Information Departments) which disappear on the job, though this can be explained by how rare it is to grant those positions without being a Deputy.
You tell em Holtzy
PUT IN SOME BLOODY PICTURES YA MUPPET !!!!!!
It's not that large of an article. One should suffice. 😛
Oh Henry, how you hurt me so.
Get off my lawn dam whipper-snappers
Pretty sure some of us has pretty much "retired". Myself included.
which is exactly the point, why play if you are "retired"?
I could play for any other reasons, e.g. economy, fighting and so on. You dont need to be super active and take up a job to enjoy the game.
I agree with srg91.
you could yes srg, however the economy is based on how successful your country is in battle and fighting and thus winning relies on activity, hence Aus losing due to lack of numbers and activity.
Nah, just like always it's all about numbers, if you don't have numbers you need an arsenal of mastercard warriors, but those days are numbered compared to a few years ago, now it's simply about Epeen and medals, activity on a country our size still wouldn't cut it, we either need a good alliance (which doesn't and hasn't ever existed in our history) or a baby boom to take us over 3k citizens, which also isn't likely ....
srg baby \^/
so as a result you dont give a shit?
what a great attitude to have....
facts are facts .....
which facts are they?
the ones which state you are too lazy to actually try?
It's fine winding down your playing time to just 2 clicking, this was more directed at those that have to make huge statements about it etc..
to be fair every time srg91 comments it is usually about how he is retired 😛
and it stays that way 😃
When I first started playing eRep I formed this conviction that srg91 was actually an Indonesian mole in deep cover, working tirelessly to fxxkup Aus from within 🙁
How did you know?!? ?He loves cattle so it clearly from Java.
Must be time for a group hugg now.
Aah yes the good old days

ahh crap just found my reading glasses and the conversations finished
In the third millennium, the world changed. Climate, nations, all were in upheaval. The Earth transformed into a poisonous, scorched desert, known as "The Cursed Earth". Millions of people crowded into a few Megacities, where roving bands of street savages created violence the justice system could not control. Law, as we know it, collapsed. From the decay rose a new order, a society ruled by a new, elite force. A force with the power to dispense both justice and punishment. They were the police, jury and executioner all in one. They were the Judges.
At the end of the day, when you're alone in the dark, the only thing that counts is this - the law. And you will be alone, when you swear to uphold these ideals. For most of us, it is only death in the streets. For the few of us that survive to old age, the proud loneliness of the Long Walk. A walk that every Judge must take outside these city walls into the unknown wastes, and there spend your last remaining days taking law to the lawless. This is what it means to be a Judge. This is the commitment I expect. Class dismissed.
Cal, I tend not to disagree with you as you are generally right but
"that a group of people are running everything. That might be true, but there is some reasoning for that. The same people you see in cabinet each month etc.. they are the same mostly because they are DOING the work. "
You will find quite often that the Old Guard, Old Farts go missing in the middle or the end of the month and leave the noobs to fend for themselves. The people who are "DOING" you speak of, can a lot of times not pass on information to the noobs, this can only be seen as trying to make themselves more important than others.
If it is the same group all the time making decisions maybe it is time to remove the friends club and put in people who want to have a go with a fresh view.
If Coles and Woolies get together to make decisions for the food retail industry it's called collusion in the industry and frowned upon
My experience is that its actually the Old Guard who step in to hold it together when the newbies disappear in week 3 of a Cabinet. There has been one cabinet I have served in where it has not happened.
By contrast, I have also seen new passionate players with staying power go onto be Ministers and CP within months of starting to play. I got involved about 7 months into playing after being sold that the Old Guard needed shaking up. Within 2 months I was PP and on my 2nd Congress term. By month 3 I was a Deputy Speaker... and it did not stop. Its not because I am special. Its simply because I was active with a bee in my bonnet.
You see, the more you deliver, the more confidence others have in you. The "persecuted" usually have the lowest work rate. So if you want to get rid of the Old Guard conspiring against Australia; all you really have to do is perform. Funny that; almost sounds like RL.
They stick around because they love Australia and not the power. They have their fingers in every pie because they make the effort to put them there and keep them there even when it tedious or has no immediate return. And they announce their retirement when they can't take the responsibility nobody is prepared to take from them any longer, and just need to chill so that they can be motivated for the next save.
Its a Messiah complex that comes from actual messiahing.
And yet there are instances where "old so called guard" players have combined to sabotage the efforts of a new player who got to be CP.
Obviously they could not care at all about Australa, just themselves,
Enough of this old = good & new = bad/inexperienced.
There are players & clowns, they come in all shapes & sizes
Sabateurs sabotage. It has everything to do with who they are and nothing to do with being old or new. Everyone ultimately does what they think is best. The truly disruptive ones just refuse to take any council. Done that a few times myself. Everyone has. The trick is learning to admit you were just plain wrong and moving right along instead of digging in you heels and feuding out of stubborn pride... even IF you turn out right.
Its learning to get along with the community of your choice.
I always chuckle when the young Turks start being called Old Guard by the next lot.
heaps of people just quit after their PM terms are up as well. Whats the point of being CP and leaving a day after? I have never understood that logic
Become CP one day and you will see.
I think that in every Cabinet there should be a mix of young and old players, with the more experienced expected to teach the younger ones that are put into Deputy positions.
I think that putting in new players into a Ministerial position directly is doing them as well as the job a disservice. Those poor people should not be thrown in the deep end to sink or swim. They should be trained up first by being made a deputy until they are comfortable and a little knowledgeable about the job at hand.
Obviously ANY player that is not reliably active, should not be put into place in Cabinet unless there are backups available to take over the slack in case of absence.
unless they have nice boobs 😉
dont blame eAussie history. some of the most interesting days in this game existed when there was a high level of internal conflict. everyone loves a good punch up. they maysay they don't but the secretly do.
the game sucks now, the multi invasion really hurt our community and it has never recovered. erep is now a bland and boring mastercard game sadly.
also nice to see callum still kicking round whinging just like in the old days.
I am the master of the whinge lord infin.
The 3 T's. If you have the right stuff, the activity and the passion you will earn a place in Australia.
Only the worthy can rip power from my cold grasping hands. And many have. And I salute you for being able to do so, because it means the best of us keep leading.
You play or you don't. You put in time here or elsewhere. Nobody judges because nobody really cares. While we have witnessed inspirational awesome, nobody is indispensable. But it does require a steady stream of hungry citizens or we implode.
At that is the real problem.
In America, first you get the sugar. Then you get the power. Then you get the women.
I am told that there are no women on the internet. You probably get Majester in a dress...
Sexy is as sexy does.
No women on the internets !!!! OMG
maybe this is as close as it comes then 🙁
