The USO Is Coming

Day 2,581, 04:35 Published in USA USA by ischelle

There has been a worrying decline of players in the Unites States, the amount of fighters, gold buyers & generally active citizens has dramatically dropped.

Many theories have been said, written about & discussed - pointing out the reason to why this game has been consistently losing chunks of its player base.

Some blame Plato for being avaricious - changing the game in such a way that will profit him the most, claiming there are flaws in the basic design of the game. Further comparing how the game has changed from it's previous versions to the current one, and the effects of said changes.

Others, blame the lack of concern the admins have for the game - claiming that missions are repetitive & unrewarding, that the customer support is lacking - and that the admins simply refuse to listen to what the players have to offer.

Everyone has their own explanation to why the charts are spiraling downhill

I'm not here to give you yet another explanation, I'm here to do something.

Introducing the United Service Organization(USO)

Most of us remember our first days in eRepublik. At some point, I'd guess most of us asked the question, "Where is the instruction book?" This is because many eRepublik features are not intuitive. And the problem is, a few bad decisions early in a Citizens career can set him back enough that he just might quit out of frustration.

While eRepublik Admins do not seem to understand this, the USO does.

And so the USO is a growing association of experienced players who are dedicated to helping the youngest among us make wise decisions - decisions that will maximize the chances that our newbies will actually stick around.

We're here to help

How does it work?

Newer players often find themselves lost & unsure what to do, or how to do it. They are fogged by the user interface, the many options & numbers that are thrown at their screens, which makes them prone to make regretful decisions.

This confusing is going to be dismantled by a group of selected assistances & mentors.

After contacting the newer players, mentors will start assisting them right from the basics - they'll provide them the knowledge they need & answer their questions, provide useful links and resources. Furthermore, they'll help them integrate into the community, the metagame while evolving them from a newbie - to a citizen that is respected and known.

The outcome is an active, well involved & fun eLife.

Wasn't this done before? How are you different?

It's true to say that programs in the past offered similar help, but they were all lacking in some way or another. For the most part they revolved around a very specific mentality;

"We helped, now please stay"

When I was a new player, I was contacted by a few people offering me mentorship. I asked many questions, but mostly got along on my own. I was given basic guidelines & a few tools to help me start out.

While going through that was helpful, it wasn't enough to encourage me to stay, it didn't me an opportunity nor an aspiration.

We need a reason to stay.

You'll most likely agree that there's something that keeps you clicking.

For some, it's the exciting battles between two power houses, and the knowledge that your participation has changed the outcome. That without you - things would be different, sometimes drastically.

For others, it's the community. They've met people from all across the globe - some are funny, some are friendly, some are boring and some are interesting.
Wether they ended up being a respected friend, or a dishonorable foe - they're all part of the beating heart of this game - the community.

The point is that we all need a reason to keep on clicking. That has never been offered to new players right from the start, people hoped that they'll stay, instead of giving them a reason to stay.

As you already know, the numbers don't lie, the notion "We helped, now please stay" has not worked.

Give the player a reason to stay

Unlike before, we're going to encourage players when they make progress, we'll make their success known & appreciated by the community. We're going to prepare our players to take responsibility and become valuable, productive and independent citizens.

The most responsible, motivated and succesful new citizens will be prepared to run for congress & national jobs. They're going to become influential, important, involved and active citizens. Finally, they'll find their own reason to stay as they transform into an integral part of our eSociety.
