The Truth about Japan

58 Day 747, 14:48 USA
An eye for an eye, and soon the whole world is blind. - Mahatma Gandhi

My country Japan is a peaceful, neutral country that advocates peace abroad.

Regarding the Kyushu incident: whether or not Japan put up a military resistance, Indonesia would still have gotten through. Yes, they did offer us Q5 hospitals. However, they offered them initially -- and we rejected their bribe. After much stalling and peaceful resistance from Japan, Indonesia increased their offer and brought up the fact that Japan and South Korea consensually merged without the approval of PEACE -- and hinted that if we didn't step aside, we would get bulldozed.

There could be only two outcomes:
1. Japan is destroyed and Indonesia continues on with its attack on USA.
2. Japan is spared and Indonesia continues on with its attack on USA.
The choice was clear.

The Japanese people, while supportive of their allies on defensive terms only, were very upset with Indonesia's aggression. In the following months, the government was reformed and it tried to make amends with USA. We've always had sympathy for the Americans, urging our allies to restrain their invasions and to adhere to PEACE's original defensive nature but to no avail.

For righteousness, vote this article up!

I urge righteous Americans to abstain from participating in assaults against Japan.

Not for PEACE, but for peace!

Sincerely,

Matsumi

Member of Japanese Diet

Righteous: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Righ[..]ophy

We are peaceful when possible; defensive if necessary; and we frown upon Imperialism.

Japan is peaceful when its in its best interest to be so. However, Japan does not actually risk anything for those values. It is easy to be Righteous when it is in you best interest to do so. The value in righteousness is that you sometimes have to sacrifice from it. You can't cloak yourself in righteousness when you need pr then abandon it when it causes problems like Kyushu or Malaysia.

We were given an ultimatum to. We were told that if we didn't betray our friends we would be conquered. France suffered in a similar way. You had a choice, you made it, not out of concern for us, but for your own saftey and the understanding that a conquered United States would be less able to retaliate then an angry Indonesia. The presence of Japanese tanks as battle heroes in American battles does not help your case either.

But despite that, we understand you position, and many of us are against this invasion. We will continue to try to persuade our countrymen not to continue with this aggression.

That was in the past with the old government. We have adopted the Righteous Nation philosophy after the incident.

USA has been repeatedly requesting Kyushu in recent times -- and repeatedly we have declined. It's even offered a lease of sorts. Now, the USA wants to take it by force. A few people within Japan want to negotiate a deal with USA (much like how our old government did with Indonesia), but the vast majority wish to practice our philosophy. This time, we will willingly stand our ground and most likely we'll be burned for it.

No offense, but Japan doesn't mean anything to us. There's much bigger things at stake further inland. Why would we go out of our way to conquer you? We're not Spain. We're just trying to go on the offensive for once, and boy does it feel good.

While it does suck that this is what must happen, we should all make the best of it. You've seen what invasions do to the activity levels and populations of a country. Utilize it properly and Japan could walk away from this down the road far stronger than it was before.

voted. people should take the time to understand that ejapan did not willingly help eindo. the old government involved with that got booted out, the righteous nation philosohpy got moved in.

i was originally an eAmerican, but i moved to eJapan four months ago. its a great country with a principled government, especially the imperial sun party with the most honest leadership i have seen in this game. i am also proud to be one of the five congressmen from kyushu, the region the eUSA is going to attack, and we will never ever region swap to allow further invasions again. indo was wrong in july, usa is wrong now.

Anavel Gato Day 748, 05:01

A lot of people in this game need to learn the definition of imperialism. The eUSA is not invading eJapan to conquer Japanese lands. It isn't invading eJapan for the sake of exerting power. It is invading eJapan to gain access to eChina and eNK in order to assist those countries in resisting occupation by the real imperial powers of Hungary, Indonesia, Iran and Russia.

Japan has had no problem standing idly by while its allies in PEACE and now PHOENIX invaded and continue to occupy Japan's neighbors. Japan should really not have any problem standing idly by while the eUSA liberates them.

KITA Ikki Day 748, 05:21

As Imperial Sun Party President, I am dismayed that the word "imperialism" has almost lost all meaning!

Seriously though, I was part of the government that initially refused the eIndonesia demand to swap Kyushu, then acquiesced when they threatened forced occupation. Anyone who was in-game back then understands that eIndo was the force-to-be-reckoned with. eJapan had no chance to oppose them, and countries that did oppose PEACE (eNorth Korea) are still occupied to this day.

This attack is not about "liberation," it's about denying enemies high iron resources and securing them. If not, then why is there NO discussion from the eUSA about liberating eSouth Korea from the totalitarian Theocratic regime (check the eSouth Korea tax structure to see what I mean)?

eJapan was drifting towards better relations with the eUSA, but apparently they did not understand our policy of "Never Again" after the last Kyushu landswap. Respect for neighbors' sovereignty is important.

I personally am against this assault on eJapan. I when Peace fell apart and you didn't join up with its replacement alliance I thought that maybe relations would grow and we would become allies. Yet my government doesn't share this outlook. I would much rather have much rather attacked eBritain after its treachery. Know that as long as long as I stay here I will not attack Japan but the recent battles opened up by Britain will keep me occupied.

You let Indonesia through to preserve your country. I can respect that, I can't think of many reasons why you should have antagonized Indonesia for our sake.

But understand that there's not many reasons we should avoid attaining our goals for your sake. We have something that we want to do, and you're standing in the way.

Actually, I am surprised Japan has not withdrawn from South Korea in a show of good faith. America may be taking the territory to gain access to her enemies abroad, she may be taking the iron, but she is not interested in Japan because Japan has not the will to stand as a leader in the east, to right wrongs.

Lack of strength is no excuse for inaction in the face of catastrophe.

"Actually, I am surprised Japan has not withdrawn from South Korea in a show of good faith."

We have tried. The Theocratic regime in South Korea fights against (that is, green) resistance wars started there. They are another one of those western imperialist occupiers that the USA should be fighting.

Curiously, no one on the American side has mentioned them. Could it be because South Korea doesn't have any resources in which America is interested? All you hear about is China, especially Heilongjiang, a region with high iron resources. Could it be a coincidence that iron is the only resource the United States lacks?

We shall see who is righteous, who is liberator.

Most if not everyone who was responsible for letting Indonesia into America is now in Austria. They cite "hostility in Japan" as the reason for leaving. Essentially, the Japanese people chased out those few in disgust.

And we swore never to let that happen again. Go through Russia. It'll be a better fight anyway.

I have great personal love and admiration for the Japanese people. That said, our safety and the safety of our allies relies on weakening Phoenix nations. The US was nearly obliterated and, willingly or not, Japan played a key role in that. The Japanese got a Q5 hospital out of the deal, and who has picked up the tab? America - in the disruption of our economy, moving tickets to free Americans under occupation, and tanking gold. Japan, wake up! There is no such thing as a free obento!

There are always back room negotiations. Only a few key people know what is really behind all of this, the rest of us only know what we are allowed.. which may or may not be any amount of truth or fiction.
Propaganda plays as much a role in war as the fighting. We-- the people of the USA and Japan-- may be being played against each other to serve a larger objective.

Agreed with Aeros. You're so righteous, Japan. You're unwilling to TEMPORARILY swap ONE region so that we can liberate the occupied regions of your neighbors. You won't swap one unimportant region so that we can remove the true imperialistic threats. You're sacrificing your neighbors so that you can remain "neutral." That's soooo righteous.

Aurelius Ambrosius
23
Aurelius Ambrosius Day 748, 10:17

Japan's righteous nation philosophy requires Japan actively oppose aggression and occupation by other countries. However, Japan stood aside and let Indonesia--by your own reckoning a major power at the time--through so they could help gang up and conquer another country. Then, when Indonesia launched an unprovoked attack on Malaysia, Japan--an ally of Malaysia--immediatley declared its neutrality in the conflict. When the eUS asked for Kyushu to help it liberate China and India from occupation you denied us what you allowed Indonesia to have for their war of conquest. Further, Japan has not supported or aided in the resistance war effort in any way while we were liberating regions to India.

That is an important note. The eUS has not just started liberating Asian regions.

So eJapan itself has abandoned the Righteous Nation philosophy for one of simple self preservation. If they had defended Malaysia, they faced what happened to eFrance. If they gave Kyushu to the eUS, they risked attack by Phoenix, which they still fear more then the eUS. That is the real reason they have not cooperated. Just as they traded the freedom of the US for some security for themselves, they are trying to trade the freedom of China, India, and Malaysia for some security as well.

We have spent thousands of gold and resources on liberating regions throughout Asia that have no resources at all. So the idea that we only are after the High Iron is a cynical view in the context of the ongoing attempts to liberate Asia and only serve Japan's government's selfish attempts to hold themselves as morally superior to the US.

One further disclaimer. Any reference in this comment about eJapan, Japan, eJapanese of Japanese refers specifically to the eJapanese government and those in positions within that government. I in no way mean to generalize about the eJapanese people as a whole.

"wtf does righteousness have to do with the internet?" -RememberThis

Your kind of thinking is what makes the Internet a wasteland of anonymous phucks who do anything they like "because it doesn't matter". It does matter. It's you that doesn't. Anonymous and VERY unremembered.
________

"Lack of strength is no excuse for inaction in the face of catastrophe." -Tiderion

Beautifully put. And I agree with your assessment. If Japan is not willing to help the problem-solvers they are part of the problem.
________

While this is a game and we can't place the same level of morality on situations there still remains a cause and effect environment. Your nation is judged by its actions--as is eUS and eIndonesia--and it will prosper or suffer for them. The choices eJapan government makes is factored into the decision making of others, even if the government has reformed from previous choices.

Your previous government was voted into office by you and your neighbors and you and they must ultimately stand or fall with that decision. While I commend you on a "Never Again" policy, they are only words until your actions prove them. If you really wanted to stand up against eIndonesia in the future you would have sided with Eden.

The choice of neutrality for a small nation in the midst of a large conflict is the choice of a door mat. Don't complain when you start getting walked over by the large nations; such is your chosen nature.
