The Top 5 - A Cynic's view

Day 1,829, 07:14 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Septuagenarian

With congress elections coming up in a few days I though I would take a look at the top 5 parties

TUP

How they describe themselves
A democratic socialist movement here to improve the UK, and make a just society for all.

How I see them
The have been on top of the pile for so long that they believe they have an automatic right to stay there. They will do literally anything to hold on to power. However their “Strength through Unity” tag on any article praising TUP is reminiscent of the chanting crowds at party rallies in the dictatorships of the late 20th century

Closest UK Real life equivalent
The Conservative party who will also do anything to get and keep power.

UKPP

How they describe themselves
Striving to improve the UK through evaluation and reform. We are always looking to the future rather than the past and will continue to offer opportunities for all to speak and be heard

How I see them
Currently the leaders of the opposition. They have some good policies but I fear that if they gain the political high ground in eUK we will just replace TUP with a “Mini Me”

Closest UK Real life equivalent
The Tony Blair Labour Party just before being elected without a Tony Blair to lead them

New Era

How they describe themselves
The Party of New Players and Ideas

How I see them
Very anti-establishment, this is probably due because many of the leading figures in the party have been banned from the normal out of game communication channels (Forum, IRC, …) due to the established powers jealously guarding the keys to that power.

Closest UK Real Life equivalent
They have been equated with the BNP by some people and whilst, on the surface, this appears true they are probably closer to any of the anti-establishment student movements of the last 50 years.

ESO

How they describe themselves
We are a party which honours the intrinsic value of each individual, regardless of history, background or activity.

How I see them
Nice people, being nice. The recent in game changes to congress elections cut right across their ideology and they ended up fighting old battles rather than moving on to the new battlefield. They may be a force again if they ever realise that politics is about power but I doubt it. I fear that they are being relegated to a group of establishment “yes men” with no real idea of what they want to achieve.

Closest UK Real Life equivalent
The WI, a group of old women more interested in jam making and quilting than political power.

UKRP

How they describe themselves
The UK Reform Party is the oldest political establishment in the United Kingdom; working through a consensus of pragmatism and realism towards the common goals of our national community

How I see them
Their greatest recent achievement is the setting up of the chess ladder on the forums. Other than that they are largely irrelevant except for providing support for the status quo

Closest UK Real Life equivalent
A gentleman's club on Pall Mall where old generals go to sit round the fire, smoke cigars, reminisce about old times and foster the delusion that they still matter.
