The self-fulfilling prophecy: Turkish PTO

Day 1,756, 03:41 Published in South Africa South Africa by mulderpf

Is that what the citizens of eSouth Africa want? Do we WANT to be PTO'ed by the Turks, or any other minority group we can lay our hands on? Because we are surely heading down that way. Not because there's necessarily a will by anyone to PTO us right now, but because we will eventually drive people down that route.

It takes time to build up trust - but just how much time? How much more time do you need from our Turkish immigrants to prove that they are not here to stage a coup? AwayFromKeyboard has been a citizen of eSouth Africa since May! It is now September, yet still gets treated by some as an outsider here to PTO.

Our Turkish immigrants have held many positions in government and yet, I still see no PTO underway.

All I see is a few immigrants, desperately wanting to integrate, but it being made difficult or near impossible at every possible opportunity. Everywhere I look, there's either someone being outright rude towards them, someone making a snide remark or someone just generally showing that they are not welcome here.

Seriously, we are worried about a small group of Turkish players who have made good friends with us? For one thing, if they are here to PTO us, then the CP and myself will join in, because we are their friends. We'll PTO ourselves.

Earlier this year, around February, I was told that we are in the midst of a Polish PTO. To make matters worse, some Swedes also joined us. This was confirmation of a definite PTO attempt by ONE. Look how that worked out for us! All I can say is that I have made some really good Polish and Swedish friends from there and that it still makes me feel sad just how rude we were towards them.

I remember that eventually the Swedes just gave up. We made it so incredibly miserable for them to do anything or hold any political positions, that they just left - time wasted trying to pursue something in a new country.

It's what we do it seems. We get some people that look at us and say "oh, look - a small friendly country - they look like a happy bunch of people" and we change to be a rude, arrogant bunch that makes it nearly impossible for anyone to want to stick around.

Our attitudes toward foreigners stink. Our nation has been built on waves of immigrants, yet we maintain a seriously bad anti-immigrant view of things.

Unless you have proof, which does not consist of hearsay about a PTO, best you ignore it, otherwise you are going to live in constant fear of a PTO. Hearsay is usually no more than that, hearsay.

The best thing for security is not to be rude and insulting to our immigrants, but to actually welcome them and make them feel at home as quickly as possible. We do not want new arrivals to resent their decision to come here.

Get over it already and accept that one of the ways to grow our active population is by getting immigrants in - at the moment our stinking attitudes are simply driving them away. You'd think it's good for security, but it's bad having a bunch of people who resent ever coming here.
