The Past Best Friends?

Day 2,743, 01:29 Published in India Croatia by Vijayakrishna
She walked past the accessory store with much difficulty, she managed not to turn her head
*not going to buy anything, not going to buy* she hushed it to herself, clutching her new bag harder.

Not even a foot or two away from the store, her mind gave in, the urge of buying a new bag won.
*Ok, this is the last this month!* she made another *last* resolution and turned back towards the store.

She entered the store, man at the counter flashed a *How are you?* kind of smile at her as she strolled around shop for her new hand bag. At the corner of her eye, she observed a man trying to select a ladies hand bag. With one hand in the pocket and another rubbing his forehead, his discomfort in an alien space was quite visible. He looked familiar.

She observed him carefully and before she was aware, she was beside him,
*How many times did I tell you not to venture out into unknown areas?* she said with a tone.

He turned his head, his eyes light up as he saw her face, *what the hell are you doing here?* he said.

*May be, I should say that, you were just selecting a ladies item* she cut back,
*I mean, I thought u were in some other city, anyway first help me select a gift for my cousin, all these things are just too much for me* he replied.

Within a few minutes they were at the counter paying the bill for the gift-wrapped item in his hand.

*How are you here? I did not know you were posted here?* he inquired as they stood in the line.

*Well, it’s been two months since I got transferred here…* she spoke as she looked at him peculiarly

*What?*

*You want me to believe you did not know where I am?* she said.

*Ah, we haven’t spoken to each other in last three years, did we?* he replied checking the bill in his hand.

*Guess we have lot of things to catch up..* she spoke in a low voice *If we have time to sit and talk*

He remained silent, as they walked out the store, *I have to go, sorry but my cousin is going to states tonight and I have to give this to her before she starts for airport*

*You are not good at lying* she said looking away *you still did not forget the spat of that day, did you?*

*Men are not exactly supposed to be clinging onto old things but yeah, maybe it is still there but I do have to give this to her, I promised her that I will get a new one* he spoke looking at her.

She gave a faint smile, adjusting her hand bag.

*I will call you* he said and before she could open her mouth to tell her new number he spoke again, *I have your number, the local one, someone gave it*

She was not sure if he really had someone to meet nor was he sure that she is feeling bad for the spat but both parted wishing each other

*see you soon*
