The Job of a MoFA

Day 1,710, 20:48 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

As you all know, I'm the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada. After 50 days of articles and showing my mad skills, I secured the spot in Rylde's cabinet, and needless to say, it's been very interesting working under him. But exactly what are the responsibilities of a MoFA?

As MoFA, I'm up there as one of the most important people when it comes to diplomacy with other nations. Often, the amount of work depends on the leader. Rylde, for example, is more of a DIY (do it yourself) person, so he tends to do some of the diplomacy himself. The USA/Canada talks in particular were his responsibility, so no asking me!

While most of the top-priority stuff is done by the dictator himself, I often am tasked with more peaceful negotiations. The main thing in particular I did for the first couple of weeks was discuss our situation with Terra and ways we could improve upon Terra despite America's departure. I talked both with other nations' MoFAs and occasionally the Presidents themselves. I've had lengthy talks with our good friend Portugal's CP ZeNaifas.

Being a relatively new player and a first-time minister, I've occasionally had troubles communicating with other MoFAs and CPs, seeing that they don't recognize me from name alone. Besides that, however, being MoFA is a great way to meet other players in different nations and improve relations with other countries. It's a great way to secure friendships that can pay off in the future. One such instance is my occasional chats with Hungary's MoFA. Although our nations aren't the best of friends, anything can happen in this game, and having connections in high places can sway the course of a nation's destiny.

While the position is mostly uneventful in times of relative peace, in such a frantic time, there's a lot to be done. One notable time was when USA had just declared war and Rylde asked to PM all our MPP nations to see if they wanted to continue the deals. Yes, ALL of the nations. Arduous as it was, it got me a good idea on the current world political structure.

Like all ministries, being MoFA also helps improve your standing amongst your peers. Beforehand, I was a nobody who just had a crummy newspaper and nothing to offer. Now, I'm climbing up the ladder, earning respect from other players and nations. Certainly, it's always best to find some way to gain experience before going for a higher position, such as a Congressman or even Country President.

So yes, the MoFA's job is to talk to other nations' representatives and sort out issues and improve relations, no matter what the task. While it's not the easiest job, it certainly works out for a guy like me (when I'm not asleep I'm online)!

Until next time, take care!
