The German wage structure - Das Lohnniveau in Deutschland
Bundesministerium des Inneren
Hi everyone,
just to quickly introduce myself. This is Starkad Rorlikson, and i have been in charge for the BMI (Ministry of the Interior) of about 2 months now.
In this role i decided to publish regular statistical updates on the course of the German economy.
For today, I have compiled job maket data to give everyone an idea of the wage structures on our Job market:
What can be observed is that contruction workers earn relatively little at the beginning, but they have the highest potential when reaching higher skill levels. However it needs to be added, that most high skilled contruction jobs are in the heavily taxed Defense Industry, so REAL wages are alot lower.
Another thing to note is that all industries pay higher wages for LVL0 compared to LVL1-2, trying to get new players into their respective job sphere. This is not reflected in the data above, since I have compiled it in a way that always the highest possible wage is shown.
i.e.: if Land-0 is 5 DEM but Land-1 is 4 DEM, I have put down 5 DEM even for Level 1.

This should be shown to new Germans, as a sign of what jobs they should take.
But say if more people became construction workers, wouldn't the pay then go down, as there is more competetion?
In theory, yes.
However the job market can be complex.
People might take up work either depending on the long-term, or the short-term wage prospects.
So lets say everyone goes into contruction now to earn alot of cash later, you will see that wages will go down on the short end of the curve, not on the long end. This effect, with time, will shift to the long end as this generation of construction workers gains skill.
New people take up a job in industry which pay best at skil 0 and they continue work in that industry.
yep, exactly.
Maybe it will change with the publication of this kinda data.
i took the job that offered me the highest wage (obviously) and when i looked at the wages for lvl 7 jobs, i noticed that i should've gone into the constructors-scence rather than into farming/land..
..but that's cool
nice article
I feel ripped off when i went into work for grain.
Should have went with construction, will have to wait til i get a better pay, then resign and begin again.
Hell yea! Been making Houses since beta. Now I still make with a big pay.
I took the grain end and i am not worried. Pay's good to live on and save up. Who said i am gonna live off a wage 😛
Great Article Starkad.
@Rahszas2: Nope, I took a job in the construction, GER Sozialer Wohnbau pays best salaries at skill 0. And after I saw the graph, I'll probably stay in the branch 🙂 But I wonder what prevents industry to pay the workers more.
