The Fear of Politics

Day 2,009, 19:23 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Dishmcds
Gentlemen and Butjam;

I have been thinking about this article for a while. Even out of the UK, I always kept my eye on UK Politics. I've outlived the GF rage, the TUP takeovers and HoL abolition, every party in the eUK entirely, and seen the progression of a community based game to a damage based game, which is loosely supposed to mirror real life even though it doesn't.

I've been wondering on this evolution, and what life as turned into within the eUK. Here's a basic synopsis of what you do on a daily basis:

1. Log in, work/train/fight.
2. Check feeds/news/forums, respond accordingly to them.
3. Do a little work for a Ministry, your party, or your MU. This could include handing out food/weapons for your MU, perhaps a few meetings, whatever.

Log out.

It just seems to me we're stagnant. We do nothing different or new or "effective" (and by effective, I mean that the UK hasn't progressed any from way back when given the drop in population, effectiveness, or "power" rankings on the world stage).

In essence, we're just here. We're the gateway to Europe, figuratively speaking. Our largest asset is our geography. Our allies love our location in relation to Spain, France, and the Americas. Spain, France, and the Americas love our location as the gateway to the rest of Europe, Assgard, or even Russia.

We're a doormat that cannot protect itself unless we have our allies (which even back in my CP terms was the case, we've never truly been a major power since Beta anyway). We're supposed to be genius organisers who lead in figurative sense with influence rather than strength. I'm going to stop here, as I'm getting off on another rant.

The problem is, in my humble opinion, that we're afraid of actually playing the political gain. When we have five functional, major parties with decent voting blocs that can decide the fate of an election, be it CP or Congress, we have five groups of people, or communities, that can positively affect change. There was at one point the idea of this major "think tank" or whatever, when in fact we already had five of them working in our favor, bouncing ideas, and being forced to compromise with each other in order to get anything accomplished.

Recent developments (and by recent I mean a few years in the making) have changed this to some degree, as we've had 2-3 major parties that can work together, with 1-2 that work on their own. This started something of a divide, which has led us to where we are today.

Five groups of people who, separately couldn't open a bag of potato chips, but together are so afraid of insulting each other they rarely take the time to present ideas, programs, or solutions because they don't want to hurt someone's feelings.

So what do we do to fix this?

Well, I can only speak for myself at this point, but frankly, it's time to actually act like a unified party that has it's own ideals, ethics, policies, and does things within this game again. We need to stand up for what we believe in again, whether that means we disagree with NE (as we typically do), or even TUP or ESO/1V/etc who we're allied with and actually get along with.

Some people forget that whether we disagree or agree, the important part is presenting it anyway, and standing up for ourselves. We can still function as a fully integrated society, military, or political system and disagree with each other. We can (try) to do it as respectfully as possible. Does that mean that there wo't be months that we basically dislike a party? Sure. We'll not agree on a candidate or whatever, and we'll have a true, bloody, election. It happens. It has happened. It'll happen again.

But we can't be so scared of that, that we quit presenting ourselves as fully functional, unified parties that do absolutely nothing.

tl;dr: Stop being so worried about feelings, and work out ideas to do things differently. No pictures this time around. Extra knockers on the next one.

Hugs and Kisses,
Just Another Guy
