The Fashoda Project

Day 2,007, 10:29 Published in USA Canada by olivermellors

Erepublik needs the Fashoda Feature.

Africa has been terra incognita until now. All those tiles are the locus of a new enterprise: part exploration, part cage match, part exploitation and part society building.

Upon reaching 40,000 strength or level 60 a player is retired from the present game and joins the advanced game taking place in Africa. This will decapitate all existing eCountries and “reset” our present game. Anxiety and activity will follow.

Retired players take all of their assets and abilities with them on the march to Fashoda. They leave their MU. They are unable to contribute their damage, assets or production to the “regular” game, but may still communicate with it through the messaging and media functionality. They do not vote or participate in the political aspect of the “regular” game as they are now "members" of new non-national contingents. Indeed, they seek to be the founders of new institutions and civilizations.

Articles from the Fashoda project will be readable and commentable by all players of eRepublik.

Members have no in game political structure. There are no game mechanics for elections, MUs, or any government of any sort. There are no taxes. That is all meta. Players will organize themselves as they think best.

Retired players begin their new life in a small inland settlement (Timbuktu). They are arbitrarily assigned to the “foreigners” or the “locals” contingent. These two teams vie with each other for tiles, resources and population. Being entirely land locked they do not wage war with “regular game” nations unless they march to Fashoda.

Tiles adjacent to the initial settlement are obscured but can be revealed through exploration, continuous occupation and improvement. Upon reaching Fashoda, trading and warring relationships can be established with “regular” nations.

Obscured tiles may be occupied. Once occupied, their resources may be revealed and worked by the occupying contingent. Two significant forces work against occupation: nature and the opposing team.

Nature is constantly at war with an occupying force and will obscure a tile unless overcome with energy, population and culture. Culture is obtained by building and maintaining constructions such as universities, hospitals and museums. Each building requires gold to build and to maintain.

The opposing teams are constantly at war and must be overcome with damage. They do not need to have contiguous borders to launch an attack.

Both teams seek to march to the tile named Fashoda. A team which occupies the Fashoda tile, opens a trade route to the “regular game”. This permits members to buy, sell or donate their production in all markets in the regular game: it is a universal market license.

A team which reaches the Fashoda tile must still defend its possession against nature and the opposing team, but must now also contend with “regular” nations as well, any one of which is entitled to declare war. Although “regular” nations may not themselves occupy Fashoda, they may want to expel the current or all occupants for strategic reasons.

I hesitate to call this a thumbnail sketch or a summary: perhaps a broad outline. You can have fun filling in the gaps if you wish. It has provided me with a small divertissement so thanks to Gnilraps and kind regards to all.
