The End of a Brotherhood?

Day 2,133, 16:22 Published in USA USA by GoneAndGone

My fellow citizens, it’s been awhile since I’ve written an article. Since then, so much has occured; new presidents, MPPs, work tax, ATO victories and failures, gains and falls in the fight for our freedom. All that has occurred, has led to so much change. But, there has always been a constant; a constant that has stemmed for nearly two years; a constant which has transcended and outlasted Terra, ONE, CTRL, TWO, and CoT. Brazil was our constant. They have always been there for us, and helped establish a true brotherhood.

That phrase “brotherhood” is thrown around so often in this game that its meaning has become diluted and impure due to such saturation so that very few recall what it means, especially in relevance to this game. So, before we move forward, we must examine is definition to understand what it truly means.

1)A state or relation of being brothers.

Of all the definitions of brotherhood, this one is the most vague, and most open to interpretation. It implies, however, a relationship of mutual companionship, a relationship that transcends simple friendship and becomes more fraternal, more important.

In the past two years, Brazil and the United States have experienced this to the ‘t.’ At every move, we consulted with each other to ensure that, no matter where we went, we went. We didn’t care about Terra, ONE, CTRL, TWO, CoT. They didn’t mean anything to us when it came to each other. And that was certainly not easy, for either of us. As we drifted from Spoland, and Brazil wanted to stay friends with them, there were some struggles. But, there was always an assurance that, if it hit the fan, Brazil would ride up and be there for us, not them.

On our part, we too had to deal drama due to our relationship with Brazil. In the early stages, CoT wasn’t ready to buddy up to Brazil. On multiple occasions, we argued both individually with countries, and with the alliance leadership to make them see that we would abandon them if it they tried to wedge us from Brazil, if they tried to make Brazil an enemy. We fought hard to make CoT accept Brazil, not as a member, but as a companion, as an ally. Had we not succeeded, we would have left. Thankfully, it worked. And through it, we became even closer not just to CoT, but to Brozil.

2)Fellowship

Much like in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, we had a fellowship built upon a mutual interest. This interest was domestic stability. Throughout our brotherhood, both Brazil and the United States had numerous highs and lows; both have experienced 100/100, and 0/0. We’ve been wiped, we’ve been PTOd, and we’ve held colonies and ATOd. And both sides helped each other with during all these times. We held Brazilian communes when we had full bonuses, and they held ours when we did not. They sent us ATOers even when they were being PTOd, and we’ve done the same. Both sides have spent a countless amount of gold, currency, and weapons ensuring the sovereignty of each other, even if it meant we needed to sacrifice our own goals. Both sides happily did all of this without hesitation, because when one country was strong, so would be the other.

3)An association of men, such as a fraternity or union, unified for a common purpose.

While Terra brought the U.S and Brazil together, we had to make our common purpose ourselves. This came in the pursuit of CTRL. After Terra’s fallout, both countries wanted something new and different. So, after discussing it for a while, we pulled the trigger on CTRL. Despite literally every single country in the game trying to stop us, we went through with it. And while it was short lived, and crumbled just as quickly as it rose, together we built what could have been the greatest thing in the game. In doing so, we cemented our relationship, and knew that moving forward, it would always be us against them. We happily went with this, both sides, because we truly were in a brotherhood.

So, if we truly were in a brotherhood what went wrong? For nearly two years now, I’ve helped ensure our relationship with Brazil stayed strong; when I wasn’t in the limelight, such as now, I’ve watched other presidents, SoS, etc. do the same thing. We signed a Bromance Accord over 300 days ago, and then further established our commitment to each other nearly three months ago, by adding Croatia to our brotherhood. We had IRC rooms, PMs, everything was in place and working as it should to ensure we stayed together.

All this leaves me confused. Nothing went wrong with our relationship; no big fight, no bickering, no “Chile” moment like last time Oblige was CP. And while it’s not uncommon for two friends to grow apart, even as recent as this week we were still brothers, still fighting for each other, still helping each other whenever and wherever possible.

Yet it seems this wasn’t enough for their government. They want to ally with Spain, to betray us; they want to stab us in the back.

And to that, I simply say okay.

Some governments just make terrible decisions, some governments just don’t quite understand the wants of their people, the needs of their people. And that’s okay, because when the governments fail, the people step up. I’ve worked with the Brazilian people for years now, before I was even in the eUS, before I was a president, before I was a baller. I know them, I know their commitment, I know their love for us. And, they’re not afraid to show it.

Even yesterday, when it was obvious to everyone what Brazil was going to do, Brazil showed up for us.

The hard fought battle against the pig-disgustings of Spain would not have been won if not for our Brothers in Brazil; they put up numerous COs when we needed it, and dropped millions, if not billions, of damage. In one round, Arguille did more than half of our entire D4 damage in that entire round. That was not cheap, it was not easy to do. But, that’s what brotherhood is about. Arriving, against overwhelming odds, to help your brother.

To those of you in Brazil who remain faithful, who refuse to follow your misguided government, who refuse to fight for the pig-disgustings, who refuse to be but a pet of TWO, I thank you. I thank you not just for myself, but for each and every cabinet member who has worked with you, for every congressman who has worked with you, for every soldier who has fought alongside you. I thank you for all you’ve done, and all you’re doing.

And I promise, it won’t be forgotten, and it won’t go without its reward. We square our debts here, and we help our own.

Finally, to the Brazilian government, I simply say I pity you. To fall as hard as you’re falling, to abandon all you’re abandoning, it’s not an easy thing to do. It takes numerous mistakes, things you’re probably already regretting. And that’s why I’m here to say, it’s not too late to stop being terrible, you can be great. But, you’ll need to put the brakes on this path you’re going on. You’ll need to repent, to return to the light. If you want, I can help you. I’d love to do so. But, if you want to be a pig, to join Spain, to join Poland, to join Serbia, to join all these countries who’ve betrayed you before, who’ve attacked your allies, who ally with your PTOers, then go ahead. I can’t stop you, but, your citizens can. And when they do, it’ll be a hard morning for you. Avoid it, before it’s too late.

Being me, I can’t do a full article without Kanye, so, I must quote something that is all too befitting of the situation;

We could've been somebody
Thought you'd be different 'bout it
Now I know you not it
So let's get on with it
