Buna sa va fie inima ! – Namaste.
. This was suppoused to be published tomorow but the article of miles make me decide to publish it now – Dhanyavad miles bhai
We generally slep about 8 h/day and this is 1/3 of our life, but seems this is not enough, because we like to dream, to pursuit our fantasy, our desires or, why not, our incubus.
However, we do use a lot of time and energy fo dream, wich seems to be a stupid behaviour.
Why do we do that ?
Well, I belive it is hard to answer this question and, perhaps, this will lead us to the right question:
Why we asume all this is of ourselves ?
Now, for example, my friend Ashwamedh is apointed Ambasador in eBelarus and he take it very seriously. Even moved to Mynsk that for and try to understand better what is with the Belarus, who are them, what they want, so on.
Mean time my friend troj4n20 is preparing to run for CP (wich is not such an important position in RL India) and trying he’s best in this.
Both of them are pursuing a dream or some remainants of them.
Both of them are aware that this is just a virtual space and that this is not really important.
Still, in them minds eR exist. They could calculate the price and use of a Q5 food, the damage inflicted by a Q6 weapon and, also, could imagine (at least) the effects that different political / diplomatical movents will create.
I’m sure they do that all the time, not only when they are “ingame”.
So, is this a dream ?
Are we part into some “Inception” created for us that we gladely joined ?
Is it so because we try to let down some burden from our RL here ?
Afterall, what is the secret of this so cherryshed dream (or dreams) of ours ?
And, to be true, are we unable to face the reality without dreaming ?
Dream, this is the temptation of impotents and Saints. The drink of gods.
Lately I’m very lazzy and tend to let so big theme, like this one, on the eddge, pretending that you will fill up but, factely, I just don’t have the mood to gave them a proper treatement.

Shai, without dreaming we would be dry inside
Life is very boring, maniu, if you look at it from point of view of someone who has no ambitions, no goals, in other words, one who has seen the futility of life. We, as human beings, run away from that scenery, we try to life a meaning, so that we would have something to look forward to and maybe, just maybe, life wont be so boring.
Life is nothing but a wait for death. What we do in between, is like replacing that wait with a shorter, closer, more achievable wait and then we create another wait. We never really open our eyes that we are headed towards death. Even if it stares you in the eye, you try to ignore it as hard as possible.
Goals are important, maniu, as I have recently experienced or life becomes a burden. (Luckily, its not a burden for me anymore, for I have a goal now.) So in answer to your question, maniu, I dont think life can exist without dreams. We always need to need something. There is a void and we try to fill that void with whatever we think will wok, will satiate the never-ending thirst. But void of life is not that easy to fill. It sucks everything and all there is left in the end, is void again, unless u find something permanent. We live in dreams and dreams are what keeps life going.
I think we must talk over this issue, because a future CP must understand it better
And life is not maded only by dreams
Reality is a delusion just like virtual reality. We get so worked up about attachment but forget that it has no meaning at the end. When you die the life of your character ends. What happens after death we don't know. Do we create another account and come back or do we get lost in electrons and protons.
In anycase, human life and surrounding is a culmination of atomic particles just like this virtual reality is a culmination of computer codes. At the end of the day, it's our mind that attaches meaning to it. It's great to play the game of life and elife but for the sake of sanity we need not to get too attached to our characters.
Maybe this game is a way of this universe to teach the players this truth of ego.
What is a dream anyway? A dream is the same as love so I'm not going to try to define it.
eR is definitely a place where you can let go of everything and do whatever comes to mind, I know a few people who play this game specifically for this reason. Life and elife is just what we make it.
@miles: As I've claimed in a past discussion we had, death is a destination, not a goal/dream. Your job is to choose the best way to that destination. A way that will allow you to say "cool ride, bro" at the end. You shouldn't wait for death nor run to/from it. It's gonna come anyway.
How to choose that way? This is where opening your heart comes in. Long black hair is for catching the wind, my dear, not to veil the sight of a cold world.
Having goals, ambitions or whatever you want to call them is important for our development as human beings. Because that's how we learn to fight. And even if we lose, it's one hell of a ride. "You got to lose to know how to win", said a song.
And, from the same song:

@exibot: dont u think it necessary that we get attached to our characters? If not, what is supposed to be meaning of all life? Life is all role-play. If we ignore our roles, what are we to do then? How are we supposed to pass the time?

I would say 2 things:
- sanity is an overrated state dictated by society, not my thing;
- not getting attached to the character is impossible, because we belong somewhere and if we don't do our thing on the stage then we're pretty much wasting time:)

Maniu, I did not say dreaming all the time. I said that we would be dry inside without dreams as there is the reality outside we face and makes us act. So, I consider life being made of a lot of reality and pragmatic action, and dreams are the ones that prevent us from too much pragmatism and materialism.
As for dream-game relation, I would keep them apart. Game is a hobby sometimes taking far too much time. Dreams can fulfill in the game but they are nothing else but projections and adaptations to a fantasy world. There the only connection to the reality is that they can show glimpses of who and how we are, or who and how some of us would like to be.
Well, puted this way, dreaming request a lot of courage and this is a good way.
Factly, is like pursuing the best part from us.

A complex subject...dreaming is an alternate reality - whether we actually live it or not, whether you can actually 'see' the future (or rather just be seeing, influence it) or whether they are products of an overactive mind, is all conjecture for now, while scientists continue to try and make more sense of it gradually.
What is irrefutable is that dreams are as integral a part of us and what we do, as say... breathing. Dreams (conscious and sub conscious) only cease too exist when a person is empty or dead.
The dream is something interesting and quite complex. Though, while you mixed the two kind of dreams, the one from sleep with the one while awake, the cause remains the same: a vivid imagination created by the mind based on everyday's feelings.
It is true that the sleeping dream was invested by certain people with premonitory properties and others use them to study the psychology of the individual. As a matter of fact, both are true. First of all, as the dream is a reaction in your brain, all it's content is mixed together: knowledge, facts, feelings and all the informations gathered while awake. It is common for a hypnotized person to recall things that he/she passed by but didn't gave any attention or wouldn't remember in a "wake" state. Thus, it is obvious that what are we aware that we know is only the tip of the iceberg compared to what is stored in our memory. Taking all of this in consideration, the brain will use those informations in order to build a dream, sometimes processing an outcome to a certain event or chain of events that you couldn't connect while awake and give some premonitory dreams. On the other hand, the brain holds our most hidden desires, passions and feelings. Thus, a dream will automatically reflect these in our dream as they mold our very own substance (mind, soul and body, with soul as the "feeling part"), and as the dreams are generated by those, they will be influenced automatically.
When it comes to awake dream though, is stops being an automatically brain-generated feature. It is in our hand to decide where it goes. But, as in a sleeping dream it is brought to life by the outside factors stored in our brain and processed usually in a subjective way by the brain. Thus, you might dream to become to a person, but only based on your experience related to he/she. And that's applicable to jobs, wealth, health, knowledge or anything in our life. And as I said, the experiences related to them all are processed subjective by the brain. Thus, let's take the case of a president (as it was as an example). A person that was confronted with a bad president, but with a background that provides wisdom, will wand to become himself one in order to correct everything bad that was done by the dream-generating president. A person that has a simpler mind, used to see things mostly in black and white, will just want that president demised with no other solution to it. Thus, a fact generated two separate dreams based on individuals experience. Though, at the same time the same thing can destroy another's dream (or to create an anti-dream) to become a president.
Now, going to the point of why we have our awake dreams, like in eRepublik, well, let's look at things open minded: no matter how wealthy, happy and fulfilled we feel, we can never escape monotony. That's why we have hobbies. They are dream-generating "factories". With every moment you practice your hobby you set in your mind a goal, after you achieve that another one and so on. As I say frequently, there are three kind of things in life: those that must, those that you need and those that you like. Any thing that fills any two of them will be done. Any that fills the last two becomes a vice and any that goes for all three is bliss. Most of the awake dreams tend to be oriented toward the things in the last two categories, as they offer the most rewarding feeling upon following and/or achieving them.
Thus is also eRepublik and all other dreams: glimpses of another world, virtual or not, that gives us that necessary escape from everyday's monotony, offers the pleasure of doing it and it is all created from the individual's perception of the surrounding people, things and events.
And one more thing: any dream or hobby that changes your real life behaviour IS a vice, as it often blocks your view toward real goals, closer to achieve and that may help that dream/hobby.
