Survey Says ... The Results Are In
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all 64 of the people who took the time to take the survey. By standing up and allowing your opinion to be counted, you are helping to make Canada better.
About Our Respondents:
64 people participated in the survey, and out of those 61 people answered every question. The average level of the participants in the survey was 16.8. The range of levels participating in the survey was between 0 – 21.
87.5% of those responding to the survey have registered for the E-Canada forums, demonstrating that the majority of opinions expressed in this study come from a fairly active portion of the population.
Anecdotally, based on comments from the articles calling for survey participation, respondents included members of Congress, government, the military and new players too. The comment I remember most was from Fangle who said "interesting, first time as a newbie I have been asked to participate in anything. Survey done"
Economics:
80.3% of respondents felt that import taxes should be raised to protect Canadian businesses for resources and products that we have in abundance. 95% of participants answered this question.
Only 23.3% of respondents think that our current income tax rate of 15% is ‘best for Canada’. 41.7% thought the best income tax rate for Canada is 10% and 31.3% thought 5% would be the best income tax rate. The remaining responses were divided equally between an income tax rate of 0% and 20%. 97% of participants answered this question.
On the question of minimum wage, which has is still under debate in Congress, 40% of respondents feel that our current minimum wage on $1.50 should be Canada’s minimum wage. 35% of respondents believe we should have a lower minimum wage, with 16.7% believing that the minimum wage should $1.25 and 18.3% thinking it should be $1.00. 25% thought our minimum wage should be higher then the current level, with 6.7% feeling it should be $1.75, and 18.3% feeling it should be $2.00. 95% of participants answered this question.
Health & Education:
57.4% of respondents have received aid, defined as free food or guns from a government program and 42.6% of people did not. 95% of participants responded to this question. It is important to note that the question asked included the word ‘ever received’.
Only 8.1% of respondents had ever been asked to participate in a government mentorship program, the question did not include mentorship programs provided by political parties. 91.9% of people had not. 97% of participants responded to this question.
When asked “Where have you received help (food, aid, gifts) or advice from? Please select all that apply:”, the following responses were given:
Wiki Help Pages - 40%
Government Programs - 30%
Help, What Help? – 5%
Political Parties - 26.7%
Individual Players – 71.7%
I have just had to help myself – 40%
It is interesting that the percentage of people mentioning that they received help from government programs has dropped off in this question. It can be hypothesized that a number of respondents from the previous question about government aid had only received nominal assistance. It is also encouraging to see that we help each other in Canada, as evidenced by the vast majority of respondents indicating that they received assistance from individual players. 95% of respondents answered this question.
When asked “Thinking back to when you first started playing erepublik, what would best describe your feelings about interacting with other players in the game?” the following responses were given:
I felt warmly welcomed by everyone – 25%
People were polite, but I had to make a real effort to interact with everyone – 48.3%
What interaction with other players? – 11.7%
I felt like an outsider – 11.7%
People were rude to me – 3.3%
It is interesting to see that for the most part we are a polite country to live in the new world. It would also be interesting to see if these responses changed over time with increased outreach through a government mentorship program. If we want new players to get more involved and continue with the game, it seems that there is more that we can all do. 95% of respondents answered this question.
Foreign Policy
When asked which of the following statements best described what Canada’s foreign policy should be, people responded:
11.5% - Defend ourselves and our allies.
68.9% - Defend ourselves, allies and fight for the sovereignty of friendly nations.
19.7% - Let’s go on the offensive, Canada needs some colonies!
97% of people responded to this question. It seems Canadians do not have an appetite for imperialism and support the right of sovereignty, for atleast those nations that are friendly to us.
So if you have made it this far through this article – congratulations! I would like to open up the comment section for suggestions of future questions. Thanks again all who participated!

o7 Great initiative Jayson
Remember Razor Ramon?
SURVEY SAYS.... lol
In retrospect I realized I answered the question about aid incorrectly as I recieve guns through being a member of the CAF.
Great inititive. I wonder what the answer about Canada defending the soverignty of nations traditionally thought of as enemies. What would we do if, say, Hungary was threatened by another nation? Would we help them defend their sovereignty?
Well I am going to be doing this again next week, so we can add that question on their Johnny ... I can even make a list of specific countries and people could choose whether to defend them or not ;_)
Voted.
I commend you again on this survey! great way to really get a feel for what the PEOPLE of our great nation want!. Now that you have tested the water's so to speak. I would take it a step further. I'd try to have every department of our government put together a survey, and rotate the surveys every 2 or 3 months. Ex. military survey in Jan. Misistry of health in March, and so forth. Would give each department time to refine their departments as well as their survey's for the next run, and keep us all informed about whats happening or being thought of in our country. I'd love to see these survey's take off on a larger scale, really get a feel for how ecanadians are thinking!
ministry of health, lol, i'm not drunk osafer honest!
11.5% - Defend ourselves and our allies.
68.9% - Defend ourselves, allies and fight for the sovereignty of friendly nations.
19.7% - Let’s go on the offensive, Canada needs some colonies!
No biggie, but that 3rd option is a little slanted as it implies that the only reason to go on the offensive is occupation and imperialism
To me I'm starting to just think of "aggression" as just a challenge or strategic contest. I doubt Spain will occupy France long-term, they mainly want to prove something to them. Long-term occupation is pretty much impossible from what I understand, so going on the offensive would mainly be for glory, entertainment and overall gamesmanship.
I'm the present Minister of Health, interestingly enough, so if you have any questions or suggestions about that, don't hesitate to contact me.
One question that I found a bit odd in the survey was the entry thing- I was born in Iranian-occupied territory, so I answered to how the Iranians treated me. I was level 7 or so when I arrived in Canada.
Yep. We need lower income, and higher import taxes..
octavian no one said 99% import or 1% income
Great survey.
Voted.
Arthur, I am going to continue doing surveys and if the government wants me to do some on their behalf I would be happy to do so ...
If anyone in government or otherwise has suggestions for questions please post them here.
hb741, you are right about your feedback, I will have to go more in depth in my questioning on that issue in a subsequent survey.
Everyone else, keep the ideas and feedback coming!
HB pretty much summed up how i feel about being offensive. one does not have to hold a territory, only to take it. thats the fun part.
Imperialism comes when you keep an enemies territory to reap the rewards of the high resource you did not have before. (or just wanted more of)
sad i missed this poll. hopefully i'll be able to take part in the next one.
Great survey!
Great Survey Jayson...this was a great initiative and I found it very informative. No wonder your in Congress!
NIce ~
good work Jayson and I agree with Fangle cause I think the interaction with other players is important and exciting and stops the game becoming the robotic act of working, training, fighting and eating endlessly.
This survey was one of the most pro-active things I have seen in a while.
I would really like to see more survey`s like this on a variety of subjuects if possible, seems a great way to get feedback.
great Job
Great job, Jason V!
I took the survey and enjoyed participating. I think its a novel idea, and something similar should be considered to be held by the Canadian government. Considering we had over 1000 voters in the Presidential elections, I would be interested in getting a similar response to this survey. Perhaps with proper sponsorship, ads could be used or something similar. We'll see.
Anyway, great work!
