Support for the Lottery

11 Day 731, 16:25 Norway
I decided to buy into this lottery because it is one of two proper methods of funding a government that is available in this game. The other method is through voluntary donations.

My decision is not arbitrary, nor is it political, although I support the Capitalist Party. There is a principle at work here, the principle is that no one (and that includes states) may initiate the use of force against another person. The moment they do they violate individual rights.

The protection of individual rights is the only responsibility of government. In order to do so it should provide for police, military and courts of law. All other activities are private concerns and ought to be provided by the open market, through competition, creation and innovation.

When I speak of individual rights I am talking about the right to life (the ability to live my life as I see fit), liberty (the freedom to do as I wish when and how within the context of individual rights) and property (the outright and complete ownership of my productive work be it a tangible or intellectual manifestation thereof).

Taxation violates property rights, the government didn't earn the gold it takes from me in taxes. I did. The government didn't make that bread, or house, or oil, or gifts, it was each and every one of us individuals.

As a rational person I recognize and appreciate the things the government does provide (in the context outlined above) and would willingly donate to the maintenance of its proper functioning. But today, that is not the case.

Nevertheless I am supporting this initiative because I know Juxtys and the Capitalist Party will work toward a truly free society.

eNorway could become a haven for business within eRepublic, it could eclipse every other nation in existence but that eventuality relies on absolute freedom of individuals and the ability of eNorway companies to make and sell better products cheaper than their competitors. That is accomplished through tax freedom.

This lottery is a worthy experiment, a valid alternative to forced national funding and a stepping stone to a truly capitalistic society.

There are 9 tickets purchased right now. And yes, they are all Kapitalist partiet members since only Capitalists are brave enough to try it right now since only they think it can work and only they want it to work.

@Juxtys You collected 200 Gold? I see only 4.5 ;p

@NorwayLoto I`d say only Kapitalists believe it will work.

Well nobody else believe in your plans. That’s probably the main reason no one is joining your lottery. I guess you failed in seeing what the Norwegian citizens wants. And it don’t look like anyone is buying you hoax

7 donations, 7 Objectivists...

I see this result in two ways:

1 - only kapitalists/objectivist think this is a good ide, and put their money where thier mouth is, to prove their own idea works, by ... using themselves as proof. Not unlike God. He is true, because the bible said so, and the bible is true, because it is the word of God, so God must be real. Sorry, just had to, don't mean to offend anyone, it's just funny.

Anyway, this leads to alternative two:

2: People are afraid of handing out their money to you, thinking you will keep them for yourself.

There are a numuber of options, but I think people simply doesn't have faith in this system.

As a last note: I think areqw says it all. Well put.

I bought a lottery ticket. I've got no problem giving funds to the eNorway treasury through this wonderful program; I want our eCountry to be as strong as possible. Most everyone in eNorway also wants their country to be as strong as possible. They want hospitals and training wars, in order to increase their stature and well-being in the eRepublik. So, if everyone--anyone who is playing the game--is motivated by this same goal, why wouldn't voluntary programs, like the NorwayLotto, work? The fact of the matter is that such programs can work, but no one has taken time--until the Kapitalist Partiet--to setup that type of funding infrastructure or even consider such options.

Sebulba, what's the point of keeping money to myself if nobody will trust me anymore? I am a party leader and I am hoping to change things in eNorway to make it a better place to live in.

People who do not think voluntary taxation can work either do not think it can work or do not want it to work. Try thinking in this manner.

I'm not saying I think you're scaming people, far from it. I know you guys are serious about this, and all gathered here in eRepublik and eNorway to test out your ideas. But some people might think it. If I didn't know who you were, I probably would have thought so.

That said, I'm not saying I don't think this voluntary taxation can work - I KNOW it won't. You guys have no idea how the mechanics of the game works - you have noe idea what to spend money on, you have noe idea how MUCH we need every month, and this entire kapitalistic deal is selfish.

You even miss-judged the monthly budget by 1000% - how do you expect anyone to take you guys seriously? You don't know about our membership with EDEN, you think a MPP is all fine and dandy being oral, and a Training War can be found by "paying a small fee to a country"... It's laughable.

I say; come back in a month, with a serious plan, and set aside some time to learn how this game works. Give us a PROPER budget, and a plan about how the country can survive on those donations of yours... Those 4 Gold you got from your fellow OO-friends, barelly can fund ONE elite soldier for ONE battle, when Russia attack us, because we'll be a sitting duck...

Sebulba: Everything you mention can be funded based upon voluntary donation. If people want hospitals, they'll have them; if people want to fund elite guards, they'll fund them. People here want to be successful--it's a game. Reduce or eliminate taxes, set up the proper infrastructure for voluntary funding, and people will get what they want; if they don't want to fund hospitals, then that's what they'll get. However, I'm fairly confident that the people of eNorway are smart enough to support their own success, without the coercion of taxes. For example, the population of Vestlandet wants a high quality hospital, and they would fund one just fine without taxes. To say otherwise would be to consider the population ignorant.

As Sebulba wrote some time age - I just can`t see that those who refuse to pay taxes will donate to pay for hospitals and defense. Especially those entrepreneurs who you think will come to Norway encouraged with small taxes. It just won`t work and c`mon guys don`t be silly.
