Steady, Steady, and Falter

Free Frenchmen

With the Hungarian Empire collapsing, France took advantage of the group RWs in Serbia and quickly committed to an airstrike on Hungary. In truth, France's airstrike suffered from a lack of communication. With resistance wars flaring up Hungarian regions, American and Mexican forces fought for their regions with fervor. Too much fervor, frankly. France had originally wanted to land in Baja, a nice corner of the map not unlike India, except consensual. However, CoT was unable to tell people to fight for Hungary quick enough to overturn the Romanians getting their frustrations off against the Huns. With USA's regions not a viable option because of the damage difference, their only remaining option was to hit Russia.

France now holds Volga Vyatka, an enclave within Russia. Not as good as Mexico, but in theory, it wouldn't be too bad, if there wasn't a glaring issue. Russia is much closer to the front lines, and France only owns a lone region, making them prime targets for consistent RW harassment, as TWO nations cleverly try to return the region to Russia, and wipe France. Despite TWO's failures in that department, they are still causing major drain, stalling any momentum in Serbia (more below).

It'll be up to France's survival in the region to determine whether it's worth the cost.

Unaware in Despair

The other large nation in Europe that's been mostly conquered also had its crack in an airstrike, but unlike the French, the Italians were not nearly as successful. Declining possibly safer options in other regions, Italy instead struck into enemy territory, attempting to land into old EDEN ally Colombia's lands, and support CoT's quest in the region. Unfortunately, CoT didn't put in a down payment of support for Italy, and the whole schpeal was an epic disaster. Despite little issue in regards to actually getting to airstrike, the airstrike itself completely failed, and Slovenia quickly mopped up the Italians. It seems as if Italy will have to fight once more to get regions.

A Maple Story

In a bittersweet story, Canada managed to finally recover regions. In the deal that was a long time coming, Canada gave up the four eastern regions to allow Spain access to cattle, and also tossed in an amount of cash on the side to win over the Spainsh congress. In at least partial form, Canada is back on the map!

In other news, the Canadians made the decision to leave Asgard. After flirting with the idea for months, and with Asgard’s unity not as strong as it once was, the Canadians voted to exit their alliance for almost a year. Asgard, though never being able to offer the amount of damage that perhaps Canada could have used in earlier battles, was a great time of unity and brotherhood for Canada, and it’s only with a tear in their eyes that they part ways. It’ll be a new journey, but it’ll be fun~

Eating the Weak

With Argentina and Chile signing an NAP, the hostilities between the two powerful nations subsided for the first time in months, but anyone who thought that there would be peace in the region was sadly mistaken. Instead, the two have merely stopped fighting each other, and have moved on to fighting the other, smaller nations nearby. Chile has moved north and rushed Bolivia, finishing what Peru started and wiping the historically weak nation. Argentina, on the other hand, has used the reduced pressure to their advantage, taking the initiative and striking a few blows at Brazil. It may be that Argentina sees the most benefit in the NAP until Colombia undoubtedly makes its way through to the Chilean border, but after that, who knows who will come out on top?

Deceptively Difficult

Croatia and friends had a field day with Serbia last time. Americans led the drain effort as Croats, Bosnians, and Albanians destroyed the Serb empire, crippled by its recent bankruptcy, and nearly wiped the Serbian nation for the first time in years. Indeed, Belgrade fell, but it wasn’t quite the full victory they were hoping for. Despite their inability to fully finish off the Serbs, it was still a success to a minor extent. And the conditions, at least on paper, looked much better this time as well. No longer did Hungary lurk from the west to mop up the American resistance, nor did Albania have to win resistance wars to get back on the map, as they already owned land, holding it from the previous war. TWO’s coordination was at an all-time low, and CoT unity was slowly rising out of the danger zone, and was coming off of great victories versus the Huns. Surely, Serbia was but one nail in the coffin from disaster.

But even in the first series of battles, it was clear that it wasn’t going as well as before. Tuscany and Corsica remained Serbian, as did Federation of BiH. Nothing went swimmingly in Europe, a stark contrast with the great start that they had last time and is needed to defeat Serbia. Obviously, the main focus for the anti-TWO coalition was to defeat Serbia in America, and lessen the load that the Americans have, but not even that, with the added Mexican front, was going as perfectly as some hoped. And indeed, Croatia has been pushed out of the Balkans again.

Poland has begun attacking USA, undoubtedly pressured to an extent by TWO HQ but also to avoid being attacked by the Americans after Serbia’s inevitable defeat, a preemptive strike, or something along those lines. However, the anti-Serb group has begun its moves again, and has several RWs poised to be victorious, bringing many nations back into the Balkans, as well as American and Mexican moves into Serbian USA, with the Serbs on their final legs in the region. If CoT can get Serbia out of USA, it may reduce the amount of drain that Serbia will have, but at the end of the day, it may be worth the effort.

The Weak Arise

China’s hegemony, as stale as it may seem, is quite impressive. China has built up an empire, using its natural fruitful regions and taking slivers of other countries to help patch up the weaknesses of the nation. And it does so without holding down anyone of importance, equally impressive. However, it can get very dull, can’t it? So China, after months of occupying its Filipino and North Korean colonies, has let go of some of the regions, at least to an extent.

To prevent PTO and easy airstrike targets, both the North Koreans and Filipinos have been occupied for months. However, China and North Korea have begun a training war, North Korea receiving Pyongyang back to that effect to make it possible. China actually has no need for Filipino lands, so they were more than happy to release the small nation. China has kept Visayas to prevent anyone from coming from Pacifica (either Colombia or a Mexican invader), but the other three regions went back to the Philippines. Unfortunately for the Philippines, their old NaN ally Pakistan has since occupied them and wiped the Filipinos. It’ll be some time for new developments to come in from the traditionally weaker Asian world.

Until next time, take care!
