So, I've been thinking
Reading Calangao's articles started making me think about what I was worth to theocracy, compared to what I get back.
Before joining theocracy I had always worked in land, and had a skill of just under 7 in land before joining.
Unfortunately Switzerland had no high resources, so I ended up working in Construction. I ended up working my construction skill to 5.32, not exactly high, but not terribly low either.
After we picked up and moved to South Korea we got this nice high grain region, and I could start working land again. And I did since it was still my highest skill. (Currently 8.6)
As you should know by now, we get paid by skill regardless of industry. Specifically we get paid at the rate (skill+1)*5 I get paid 45 KRW (22.5 KRW after taxes) a day to produce q3 grain. As a construction worker I would make 30 KRW (15 KRW after taxes) a day.
But here's the thing: Grain blows. It's everywhere, so the price is really low. It currently sells for about 0.004 per unit of q1, or about 0.012 per piece of q3 grain (which is what most Theocratic land workers make.)
Q2 houses and Q5 houses however go for 6 and 36 gold each respectively (unless you're a theocrat, in which case a q5 house can be yours for the low, low price of 25 gold). Wood goes for about 0.007 per unit of q1.
So let's look at some calculations.
I produce 30.96 q3 grain at 100 health and with 10 employees. That works out to about 0.37152 gold worth of production by me per day.
A Q5 house costs 2000 wood to produce, or about 14 gold. Since they sell for about 36 gold, that leaves 24 gold or so in the value of labor that's put in.
I would produce about 4.79/200 for q5 houses at 20 employees and 100 health. That works out to about 2.394% of a q2 house a day, and so my production is worth about 0.02394*24g =0.57456g
So it ends up looking as though I'll be worth more to theocracy by making q5 houses, than by making q3 grain. (I still make more for theocracy producing q3 grain than q2 houses in case you're curious.)
So I could make about 0.20304 gold more per day for theocracy by working construction rather than land (assuming my pay is the same in both places). So Theocracy loses out on about 6g a month in this scenario. (and that's from a single worker, there are probably more like me.) If congressmen have to donate their 5 gold to Theocracy, what about my 6 gold?
So it looks like we have a bit of misplaced incentives. I get paid more to produce less for Theocracy. But of course the more I (and the rest of us) produce for theocracy, the more we get at the end of the day anyway, even if it doesn't show up in our paychecks. Those weapons, tickets, and gifts, don't come from no where after all.
So as I see it we can do a few things.
1. Just leave it. Theocracy has been working fine, and it will keep working fine.
2. Decouple pay from skill level, or at least change it to be weighted by industry. We could either all get paid less and just get more donated to us, or alternatively just tweak the payment formula.
3. Order people like me to work elsewhere. This is theocracy after all. You should work where you're told to, and that's that. If I get told to take a pay cut and work in Construction, I will.
4. Get a High Iron region. Well we just have to go a little North, I bet we could pull it off. Hungary probably isn't using it anyway....
P.S. Are we going to have wargames again soon? I'm dying here!

You're calculations seem fine, but it seems like you're not factoring in the high tax rate. Shouldn't you count that money as part of your contribution? I'm very new to the game, but it seems like every time you work, import something or add value to raw materials you pay an extremely high tax. So, surely those weapons and gifts and tickets you get come from your taxes as much as anything else.
Also, I live in eSouth Korea and it looks like you get paid more to produce weapons than food at almost any skill level.
You sure think a lot ... xD
I don't understand Theo economy that good so I can comment your calculations but I agree with you about the TW - THA has quite a number of soldats who are close to new higher ranks and this no TW situation is not helping them to reach the so much desired ranks (me included )
I'm glad to see this article.
There are certainly companies and industries that are more profitable than others. All of them are profitable either by generating more revenue than expenses or by saving us the expenses to supply the army. All companies are important and we don't have all the workers we would like to have. On the other hand, it is not practical to keep track of everybody's skills and we can ask a player to move to a company, but not force him to do so.
We theocrats pay the same for everybody regardless of the company so that we can ask people to move around without too much trouble and we pay he same on all sectors so that there is no envy and people will not migrate to the same sector: in the end we need them all.
As for the war games, I've been too busy IRL to know about any negotiations regarding them.
NICE! [/marcus fenix]
The raw material needed to biuld a q5 house is 1000 wood and not 2000 like you said. So real cost of raw is the half of you have calculated. But its just a ps.
About the War-Games: Im studing our options. I need to talk with some people before but unfortunately Im a little seek and Im not home, so its hard find them.
...hmmm...
Your math is nice, but you missed the effects of the taxes...
Think in gold.
You get 0.23 gold after taxes with 8.6 land skill.
Moreover, we are making foods from that grain, and you pay 0.03 gold for a Q1 food. Yes it's the highest price in the eWorld.
I agree that we are far-far away from the optimal use of our resources.
But I doubt that you should worry about the losses on you. I think the selling price of the grain can't sink enough to do direct losses for Theocracy. The Theocratic Economic System is working with sky-scraping margins, and it allows us to waste our workforce if we want.
Let me explain: In the pure capitalist countries you can gain 0.75-0.80 golds daily after taxes and consuming food with your skills (for personal use). It's ~0.2 gold here. It means that the dominant part of your nominal productivity is related to the government (~80-85%). It's a huge difference if you compare it to the usual 10-15% rates.
Yes, we are communists, and we are operating a totalitarian country.
That means, we are free to waste as much as we want, it simply doesn't count...
Sounds weird, huh?
PS. The post above doesn't contain any official informations.
And yes, I feel some discomfort about my last sentences too. But I was unable to find a less disturbing conclusions...
X.
Btw, please put some raws to <a href="http://www.erepublik.com/en/company/theocratic-weapons-q3-201756" target="_blank">http://www.erepublik.com/en/company/theo[..]1756</a>
But, with your grain, we could "create" q3 food sold in other nation for an "high price"...
Well, a few things. For starters, Flashgun is right about it only being 1000, my bad.
As far as taxes, well it's sort of irrelevant to the matter at hand. My article assumes that even if my pay remains the same, theocracy will make more money if I were to work in housing. As for the idea that I'm already contributing "enough", that's not the point. My paycheck sucks, I know. If I wanted more take home pay, I'd GTFO. My low after tax pay let's theocracy make lots of money though. And that money is later spent on me and other Theocrats. So, it's not like I'm getting screwed over somehow. If all of us make theocracy more money, we get more war, better weapons, ranking programs, etc. I mean, this is sort of the whole idea behind our system.
As to being able to use the grain to make food and such, or defray costs, that is to some extent true. However, judging by the amount of grain we sell on the open market, we make too much for our own needs as it is. And aside from that, if I can make either 5 gold worth of grain, or 10 gold worth of houses, then I should make houses, and we can just buy the grain and spend the other 5 gold. I mean we have to buy all of our other raw materials, we don't HAVE to produce EVERYTHING we use.
i sell q2 house for 7 gold!!
