Redemption for the Federalist Party
A long, long time ago…
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile…
Federalists,
We stand together at a point of transition. These past couple weeks have been hard on all of us. For those of you living under a rock, the national community decided to attack the party. This was around the time I was considering a return. The intense national criticism was the straw that broke the camel’s back and made me rejoin this game.
What was said about our party was harsh. Much of it was malicious. However, most importantly, it was true. I began to ask myself a series of questions.
What does the Federalist Party stand for?

Numbers. The Federalist party has, for a long time, been devoted to quantity over quality. The measure of success of both a political director and a party president has been the number of seats in Congress they are able to acquire. That’s a serious problem. I could explain why in a couple paragraphs, or provide a simple illustration:

This is a lot of seats. They’re crappy seats, uncomfortable, and don’t really do anyone any good.

This is two seats. They’re awesome.
Given the choice between the two, in the past, the Federalist party has picked the former. No longer. If we’re going to survive as a party, we need to rededicate ourselves to quality over quantity. That means running substantially less citizens for Congress.
Under my proposed solution, if we end up with extra mobile votes, we use them to ensure that good people from other parties get into Congress. We can’t let the monthly male anatomy analysis that is congressional elections get in the way of a productive, quality congress.
How can the Federalist party gain a better reputation on the national scene?
The only way to do this is to get involved. There are many good, productive members of the party who have never held government positions. This is most unfortunate. The party needs to dramatically improve its national focus. In the past few days, Federalists have been encouraged to register on the eUS forums. This has been working very well, with several members beginning to participate in discussions and learn more about the world outside the Fed forums. For too long we have been a sheltered party. We’re in the top five, we need to get out more.

By getting members involved on the national forums and educated in current events, more Federalists will be up for government positions, something that has not been happening enough recently.
On a party level, we need new faces in leadership. When I initially returned, many speculated that I would be back to run for Party President this month. To tell you the truth, I considered it until I was approached by HobbitTon. We had a long conversation about what the party needs, and I found the two of us agree on just about everything. Therefor, I was happy to accept the offer to run on his ticket as VPP. I encourage all Federalists to keep up with the media in the coming days to figure out which candidate they want to vote for in the upcoming primary. It’s a new day. The choice of direction for our party is in our hands. No matter what happens this election, we have our work cut out for us.

There should be an image here, but I couldn’t think of one with context. How cool is this?
To the national community: I hope you know that we are working hard to get our party more nationally oriented. It’s going to be a lot of work, but we’re trying our hardest to get the party good again. I hope you allow us the chance to redeem ourselves.

First. Voted and subbed.
Sounds like some solid ideas. Someone awesome must have help put them in your brain.
Great article Landon! The Feds are back... with redemption.
Funny. As I was reading "These past couple weeks...", the man on TV was saying those exact words.
I enjoyed reading your article. You are certainly one of those quality Feds we need to help move us forward.
We currently hold 6 seats. My questions to you are:
Do you really believe it is that difficult to find 6 quality people next time elections roll around?
What about the quality Feds that run for Congress and don't get in?
What is wrong with having both quality and quantity?
Feds are p cool, but I'm in the UIP now so ... GOOD LUCK!!! Great to see you back to Landon. Still working on that Media Mogul Project?
Welcome back David. The Feds have been a solid party for a long time, it's great to have you back there and active.
Love the idea of choosing from a larger slate, looking over ALL the candidates. Pretty neat idea/goal/implementation.
Still am, Ace, as always.
Karabeth, good questions:
1. I don't believe it's difficult to find six quality people next month. We have more than that in our party. However, my issue is with playing the numbers game in general. Our enemy is the mindset that says "six seats? We have to do better than that next time!"
2. If we ran fewer non-quality candidates, the quality ones would be easier to get in.
3. If we can find it, nothing is wrong with having both. Given a choice between the two, we should choose quality.
Voted, good article.
'2. If we ran fewer non-quality candidates, the quality ones would be easier to get in.'
Not true.
There's always a few races which reach a point where there is absolutely no way to win them. I've seen races that a fantastic candidate was down 15-0 and they lost not because we ran too many candidates, but the reality was that the race was unwinnable.
In fact, the more Lower quantity candidates we run, the higher probability that we'd be able to elect the High Quality ones. Most candidates bring some votes to the table, and many of those votes the Party cannot use for their needs.
If we have 10 candidates that are in contested states, and each of those candidates brought 3 of their own votes to the table, that means other parties and candidates need to fight on 10 fronts and account for 30 votes. We would then use our mobile votes to elect whichever ones that we would be able to, and call it a day.
Now lets say we had run 5 candidates. We'd have the same amount of mobile voters, but the other Top 5's would've been able to spread their votes amongst 5 races rather than 10, making the 5 races substantially harder to win than the others.
Options are good. Don't limit yourself to only 5 ABSOLUTE QUALITY candidates, when you can have 10 great Feds running. The more options, the more congressmen, the less stress for the PD.
And theres always the fact that Quality Congressmen routinely come from Experienced Congressmen, so no matter what, you're going to have to run some unexperienced/lower quality people in order for them to advance.
