Presidential election coverage – January 2009
Dear citizens,
The voting polls for the 14th presidential elections in eRepublik were closed a few hours ago. Here are the newly elected presidents in each country:

The victory of Roby Petric in Croatia was expected by many citizens while in Pakistanthe newly elected president is GnolTac as a sign of revitalization from the Stardust Crusaders party.
While some candidates won easily because they were alone in the presidential race (DKN in Germany and bruno goethals in Belgium), others had their share of emotions due to tight competition (Red Duck with three votes more than his runner-up and srachit became president with a difference of two votes).
An interesting event is happening in Russia, in which the newly elected president lic_ptg is already under impeachment by the congress after rumors were heard that he was Romanian and succeeded in a political takeover of Russia.

ORly? (insert owlpicture) Strange, impeachement means that the citizens don't agree with the president, so at that point shoudn't be allowed to take actions. Even if that is allowed, why is he able to retreat from the last region available in his country

We have just had the most intresting election ever and for the first time we do not have a "beloved" president.

Procedure of impeachment of the president of Russia has been begun at 00:01 since to all citizens of Russia it was clear that it is the Romanian сapture. Also what we see? The new president of Russia has there and then handed over all country to Romanians, despite the fact that what was under impeachment procedure. It not absurdity?

Like the others, I realize that citizenship is an obvious, yet trite, solution.
I'm sad that the victories in Indonesia, USA, and Iran were not noted. Indo and Iran were close within 10 votes iirc, and Justinious, a veteran of the US and V1 tester, got elected too after his 6th or 7th campaign.

A citizenship system should apply.
We get to choose our citizenship by moving to our country of heart by a certain date that you can establish (say ... January 13th or whatever ).
On that date, everyone receives BY DEFAULT the citizenship of the country he lives in, for FREE.
Citizenship is to be required only to vote.
For someone to change citizenship, each congress should be able to setup a tax, of minimum 1 gold, maximum 50 gold.
If I were an Italian citizen and wanted to become a Romanian citizen (to vote or be elected, NOT MOVE OR WORK), I should have to pay like... 10 gold or whatever the Romanian Congress decides.
The 10 gold would enter the Romanian treasury.
Italy would receive nothing (since I renounce the citizenship).
The other way around, let's say the Italian Congress sets up a citizenship TAX of 12 gold.
If I want to become an Italian citizen again, I will have to pay 12 gold, and the money will enter the Italian treasury.
Each country can control how many citizens become citizens.
Newborns should not be affected by this rule (naturally) but you could implement some IP-based rules.
People shouldn't be able to change citizenship earlier than 10 days before elections.
The money from these citizenship changes should appear in the Accounts list of each country treasury, with the name of the citizen, the amount and the reason (Citizenship Tax).
With these changes, everyone will be able to see any suspect changes.
Hope these thoughts help.
Stop whining ffs, you all knew the rules and you agreed to play following them. This is not the first or the last political takeover, being it the presidency or the congress, so why should it be different now than it was before ?
5 or 10 days rule it's useless, as Victor said. We could've moved the citizens to Russia 5 or 10 days before without any problems and the result would've been the same.
You all knew the president has the right to retreat from any region, yet, none of the bright minds from PEACE figured this, otherwise predictible, move. So stop crying to the admin and learn that a war doesn't mean just brute force against a wall, it's also about strategy, economy, politics and media.
Now, back to Hungary...

All play by these rules? Similar only Romanians play by these rules. Where in rules it is written, what the president, being under impeachment procedure can make such important decisions how to retreive from all regions and as a result to hand over all country? In the first if to think logically that it is full absurdity, and in the second show me these rules? While I see only one - rules on the Romanian party so let's leave only Romania on a world map, what for others then here are necessary?
@XFiLe, I must add, the Hungary attack was a desperate act (on the PEACE side) and most likely one of the biggest political mistakes ever done. Our talks with Hungary were going (in the last months) towards a peaceful resolution (and a lot of people on the hungarian side can confirm that), including giving back most of the territories (grain included). Now, well...let's say we'll reconsider our options.
@borges16 - I think it is you missing the logic, my friend. A president can retreat at any time (or take any other decisions), as long as he's president. And he's president until the impeachment procedure ends. Those are the rules of the game, Pure and simple. That's what happens to any country, not just Russia or Romania or Indonesia or whatever.

That a president can retreat is ok, but a president shouldn't be able to remove the country from the game by himself. A president is an acting representative of the people/congress.
