Power Struggle #4

Day 350, 12:16 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Hassan Pesaran
Day 31. I stepped onto the podium, staring into the glaring lights of the camera flashes, struggling to keep my composure. On the eve of the General Elections, Parties played a minor part, overshadowed by the Presidential Candidates who would potentially lead us over the course of the next month. But Parties still had their place in these events, as it was they who backed the Candidates and who would bring with that backing dozens of voters. It was also to be the first General Election in the New World, and with it came new challenges for the Leaders who could be given the oppurtuinity to wage war. Clearing my throat, I began,

"We are on the dawn of a new government. With the new President will come a series of changes that may change the way we think about the UK or keep the core values intact without radical interventions. Whoever is elected, we will be in safe hands and can be confident of each of the candidate's abilities.

Rayf Drayson may have decided to step down but with his passing a number of great figures have come to the UK's aide. Final Destiny returned to his birthplace, following a move to Ireland, and has quickly stepped into the limelight; thrown into one of the most contested elections in the history of the UK. Final Destiny has already experienced such elections, however, beating down Shadow and Ip to win the June elections. He is hailed by some as one of the greatest politicians to grace the UK and this claim is not unsubstantiated.

Dishmcds, although having lived in the UK for quite some time now, is still viewed as a foreign figure by some. These views should be cast aside, because Dishmcds, now our Minister of Trade, has done nothing but good for our country. He extensively planned the UK's move into Raw Materials and has been a consistently strong figure in debates. Dishmcd's vast experience as President of the USA is astounding and cannot be thought of lightly, be sure of that.

Tim09 is the final candidate and has lived in the UK all his life, serving the PCP for a number of months. He is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs and has improved relations between the UK and other nations, notably those included in ATLANTIS. Arguably the most inexperienced of the three, Tim makes up for that fact through commitment, hard-work and a cool head in heated debates.

So, out of these three fantastic candidates, how are we meant to decide who we should vote for, you may be asking? And the first thing I would have to say is that you should NOT vote because of Party allegiance. Presidential Elections have nothing to do with Parties, it is simply down to who you think will be able to put together the best government and run it most effectively. There is a reason why any Party can support any candidate in the New World, and it is to encourage independant voting and not voting out of blind devotion to your Party.

I leave you with those words, so when you go to fill out your ballot tommorow morning do not just look at the party who is supporting them, look at the candidates theselves. Read the numerous articles regarding each candidate which are prominent in today's media and come to an informed decision on who you want to vote for.

Thank you"
