As badly as I want to just leave it at that, you put a lot of time into your pursuit of me, so I suppose I should put a bit of time into this rejection. If your heart can't take it, stop reading now.
I do want to start off with a bit of appreciation, though. I know how hard it is for you to be in a situation where you cannot control the outcome, so chasing after me was a gigantic risk. I'm flattered. Honestly, I am. And even though this risk is most certainly not paying off for you, I don't want to deter you from taking such risks in the future. I think the risk is what makes this game so interesting.
I want you to know why this could never work. Maybe you'll learn something from it.
The Proposal: There are a few problems here with the premise. Us working together was only ever good for you. When I first rejoined the game, I saw how divided and negative the country was and genuinely hoped that us working together would inspire others to bury the hatchet and move forward together given how adversarial our history was. I am an idealist and willing to take those sorts of risks for what I believe is the greater good. That worked in your favor, but most certainly not mine. I immediately became one of the most hated people in eRepublik. Through that one decision (running with you), I started getting comments from complete strangers about how much I had changed.
You seemed to like that. You seemed to like having a bit of company on 'Pfeiffer Island.' But I was only ever a reluctant visitor.
Once on Pfeiffer Island, I saw exactly why choosing to work with you just one time inspired so much hatred. And really, I should've seen it from the beginning. It was exactly why we had been adversarial for so long. I HATE how you play this game and I simply cannot relate to your mentality. As much as I wanted to bridge two camps and put negativity in the past, if behaviors and mentalities haven't changed, then it was impossible from the start.
An Epic Power Couple: Let's talk about what power is. In the first article you said you like to think you were a good sounding board during my Presidency... are we playing the same game? I shut you out of my Cabinet entirely because I think you're poison and you threw an Oblige-eclipsing hissy fit. I let you bully me into giving you pdb access because I was simply tired of fighting you. It got personal and it hurt. You said you deserved access. Not just access, but you deserve complete authority over everyone in the White House, even if you don't have an actual job. You were saying something about power? I've never known a powerful person to whine and beg for authority they believe they are entitled to.
Now I would say that we're not in the same league when it comes to power, but we're not even playing the same sport, man. I've never seen someone write a 5 article series trying to impress YOU. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen anyone do anything to try and impress you. There's no reason to. Your power comes from rigging elections, bullying and manipulating and cheating. That's what you think power is- the power to FORCE people to do things. You don't have friends, you have 'supporters.' You don't have followers, you have 'servants.' The weird boner you get from thinking you control people is kind of crazy.
As I mentioned at the start, you hate being in situations where you cannot control the outcome. This has led you to believe you need to rig elections, even if they have already been won. Or maybe it's just that you need to feel like you contributed to the win so you can continue to believe that you choose the Presidents? Either way, you do not trust anyone to make smart decisions. You have said repeatedly that you think people are too stupid and need to have the right thing forced on them. Without you, all of the eUS would collapse. Srsly. I know you're not the only person who feels that way, but you see little reason to hide your disdain for people. And really, Pfeiffer, it's a shame. I saw you be President and you weren't bad at all. It's a shame you're too insecure to actually try and win people over. You could be really good. It's that same insecurity that leads you to completely disregard the few people who do genuinely like you (feeling confident they’ll back you no matter what) while chasing after 'demographics' where you 'struggle.'
This difference in mentality when it comes to power becomes extremely evident by comparing our experience as Party Presidents. You took over the most powerful party in the nation and ran it into the ground. I built up a tiny party into the most powerful party in the nation. How did this happen? You're a dictator. I'm a community builder. You have no faith in people. I have loads of it. It drives you crazy that I am willing to put so many decisions into the hands of Fed members, not as a way to get out of decision-making (there’s no doubt FG as PP is boss of Feds), but because I trust them as much as they trust me and I know it’s their party as much as it is mine. Just about everything is put to a vote and most things are up for discussion, both silly and serious. You want desperately to be unbanned from the Fed forum and IRC...I asked the party. They said no. You flipped out that I wouldn't just do it and tell my party to kiss my ass. You really don't get it. No wonder people are fleeing from you. You're a sinking ship.
To me, being a leader means having willing followers. Having power means people listen to what you say because they trust you and respect you. What you have going on isn’t my idea of power.
Also, I know you well enough to know that you're flipping out right now because I said you ran your party into the ground. Somehow the idea that you have complete and total control over that party and everyone in it and the idea that you are completely removed from whatever happens in that party can coexist in your brain without you stroking out.
Charity and Bribery: I like that you recognize my passion for new players. It's unfortunate that you really only see it as a thing that exists instead of really understanding the genuine passion for building and growing this game through helping new people and relating to it. Now, I know you are charitable. I know you'll throw money at just about anything. You'll even mentor a new player in the game because they might be voters in the future. But that kind of charity and the kind of work I do aren't the same thing.
That actually makes your offer a rather appealing one, though. Unlimited resources to build a massive noobling program and literally zero interference from the investor because they couldn't care less? I could do A LOT with that money. I could grow and boost activity nationwide with that money. But so could you. The fact that you're sitting on all these funds and really have no idea what to do with it speaks volumes about our differences. In the comments, you brag about how much money you threw at Interior. I know they appreciate it. But when I heard Mazzy talk about this donation on eNPR, she also mentioned a wrap up of the writing contest they were doing. I checked the article. It had under 30 votes. Meanwhile, one of your BS wooing articles was sitting at #1 with over a thousand votes.
Canada: You didn't really offer me Canada. More like you offered me the opportunity to go after Canada, just like you offered me the chance to do a bunch of work for noobs rather than helping people in my honor or because I inspired you or whatever. Thanks for the offer, Pfeiffer, but you do realize I'm not totally washed up and super bored in this game, right? I'm not sitting around with nothing to do. I'm a Fed ffs.
I told you to bring me Canada by today. Yes, I knew this was pretty much mechanically impossible. I didn't make that demand as a way to get out of this, I wanted to see what you would do. You were faced with a dilemma, weren't you? Hack into people's accounts and try and force an NE with Canada through manipulation and rigging, or blow massive amounts of money. You were totally willing to do either one. While I've been very hesitant to help you in your pursuit of me (knowing there's no way I'd ever say yes in the first place), I had to encourage you to seek a third option on this one. As much fun as this little chess match has been, I've already won. Watching you totally self-destruct isn't worth it.
Pfeiffer, if you're still reading...my respect. You have lost this round miserably, but I don't want you to stop playing. Actually, I miss having such an epic rival. I want you to continue to be the villain you felt it was necessary to become in the first place. As my RL husband suggested, BE DR. DOOM. But like... commit to it. This beta mess is so beneath the Pfeiffer I used to know. The Pfeiffer I know would never spend a week auditioning for the job of cuckold. Get it together.
Thanks for reading,
The Feds are my only love in eRep. You should’ve known that.
