Peace in the Far East (and the crisis that preceded it)

Day 1,228, 00:55 Published in USA USA by Emerick
Good evening again, America. Excuse me while I pause my presidential campaign for a moment. I write to you today as your Minister of Foreign Affairs(yes, we have one ministry in the US), to explain to you the crisis between our Asian allies.

Last night and tonight, President Glove and I acted as mediators between our two allies, China and Japan, hoping to help them come to terms for peace. Tonight, North Corea was also present, representing their part of the conflict. Right now, I'm tentatively proud to say that our allies have all agreed to end their confrontation peacefully, so we can all focus on the greater threat of that ONE alliance raping the European countryside.

It all started a very long time ago, when the admins killed our own little revolution with their super missions, around a monthish ago. Japan needed an Natural Enemy to complete those missions, and after asking around, they chose North Corea for their War Game partner. Assuming that North Corea was taken over by the Chinese, as most of us around the world did (including some Chinese), the Japanese asked the Chinese government for permission to start it. The Chinese agreed.

The War Games went off without a hitch. People got their missions completed and some massive str increases, which was very nice, but Japan accidentally ended up wiping Corea off the map. Which was a problem. China and Corea approached Japan, asking them to free Corea and give Corea gold to recreate their old parties. There were apparently a few numbers tossed around between talks: 200, 40. Regardless, Japan's President, Alfred Ball, promised to take the proposal to their congress.

Now, I'm going to deviate from what was told to me explicitly here, because here's what I believe happened in Japan: I believe that the Japanese still believed that Corea was under complete Chinese political occupation, and therefore, anything coming from Corea was coming from China. And China, being a large and powerful country that it is, asking Japan for money, is an insult. Comparing their population numbers will make it apparent that their GDPs don't compare.

Back to the facts, Japan's congress voted not to allow their president to give any gold to Corea as reparations. To complicate matters further, during all this, there were negotiations back and forth for Japan to rent a region from Corea, and then later, China to rent from Japan. I was approached three or four days ago from China, informing me that China would be renting a region from Japan, and not to be concerned about their war declaration. However, the plan was to let the Japanese MPP drop and renew the Chinese one, so I figured there was a problem when, the next day, not only did China declare Japan as their NE, but they voted down our MPP! I soon found out all about the negotiations, and watched as President Ball pleaded with Terra to send assistance to his country. They did, but those of us in Terra HQ were equally concerned with the fact that a country from an alliance who needs assistance, and is allied with our own alliance, was getting involved in a dispute with a country allied with their alliance.

If that sounds as confusing as it does to me at 3am right now, let me just say this then: we were concerned, confused, and disturbed that two of our good allies were breaking out in war with each other. And so was Terra HQ.

I spent a night or two talking to as many Chinese and Japanese officials as I could, to try to understand this situation, and how I could help. Finally, a meeting was set.

The long and short of it was that all parties agreed that it was much more prudent to focus on our allies who are in serious danger from actual enemies, and that peace was the best option. And just like that, cooler heads prevailed. It was an amazing sight to behold. Oh, and did I mention that some Japanese (not government officials, in fact, I don't think these people are even allowed on the Japanese forums; they are very bad men) trolled the Chinese using Unit 731 avatars. So knowing everything that happened beforehand, it was delightful to see these two countries put aside their misunderstandings and issues to focus on assisting allies.

This is what our Global Community is all about, and I'm proud to have been a witness to it.

Just a small note: look here for a short transcript of Alfred Ball(president of Nippon) and martianY(MoFA of China) explaining the conflict to me after the meeting, to prep me for this article.

And let there be peace in the Far East for generations to come. Let's not forget what's really important.
