Our fighting future?

Ireland's fighting future

The current state of the IDF

This article is in response to a recent increase in the popularity of the idea of paramilitary and party based militias in place of a united National Army

Our situation

It's no secret that the IDF has seen better day's, inactivity, questionable leadership appointments, logistical issues during the NI RW and a general lack of unity among soldiers. The recent leadership appointment of JJ as Co-MoD has caused a significant backlash by IDF members in the form of resignations and public scrutiny, I myself resigned from my position as CO of the Ulster Rangers in protest. It seems that president Dubhthaigh is unwilling to remove JJ from his position and thus the IDF is destined to be lacking the work and input of many of its top members, until the CP elections or until Dubh is impeached.

Are Party militia's/Paramilitaries the answer?

The only example of a party militia operating in Ireland that I am aware of is the Labour parties ICA (Irish Citizen Army). Though I am clearly on the other side when it comes to political affiliation I feel it appropriate to congratulate the ICA on their organization and activity, recently deploying 14 members, as can be seen in this article they also claim to have brought ST6 and other paramilitaries to Ireland to aid us during the NI RW.

It is obvious why a party would create a military wing and why some other eIrish parties are currently giving the idea serious consideration, among the involved members it will create brotherhood, respect, organizational skills and loyalty. All of which make very useful tools for recruitment as well as going some way to boost party prestige.

However, these militias will always have to fund themselves, usually they will own a few Q1 weapons companies and operate on funds provided by army members, supplying moving tickets, gifts, weapons and food without government support is often unsustainable and the militia will find it's self either badly supplied or not supplied at all. Whilst I commend the ICA for their initiative in deploying to Australia to help SA I feel it necessary to bring up the fact that the total damage done by ICA members came to the dismal total of 3561 damage, not nearly enough to have any kind of real impact on the battle. I understand that the ICA members might not be level 20+ and might not be 50+ members but it is still a valid point that these militias will typically do less damage than a govt. funded army due to the nature of how they are financed and managed.

So in short are militias/party military's the solution to our current military problems?

No

I think it fair to sum up my feelings of party military's/militias with a picture:

So what now?

As I just outlined, ICA type militias are not the answer to improving Ireland's military solution, so what is?

The IDF

The simple and most effective way for us to organize our military strength is through the IDF, I agree that serious effort and contributions are needed to establish the IDF as an internationally respected military, It is evident that these contributions are being made in the example of the state's Q5 weapon company which currently holds 431 Q5 weapons for the IDF's most elite troops, this kind of supply is only possible/sustainable through government finance, some people have argued that party militias could be party financed by the state but this would surely lead to abuse and claims of partisanship in relation to how funds are allocated, funding militias who may go against official state policy would not reflect well on Ireland or its government.

The IDF needs serious improvement, through effort and dedication, not through reform after reform... I hope there comes a day when reforms are not even contemplated as the IDF is efficient and deadly, I realize the need for conversion of our armed forces for V2 but until that day we must focus on the current state of the IDF and work harder to improve it.

I forgot so many points whilst writing this but I think I got the general idea across with this article.
