Operation Ruskie Dawn: Tale of a Dead Man *Even Sadder*

11 Day 1,019, 02:53 USA
WARNING: This Article is Epicly Long. Read at your own discretion.

Note: You inspired me Alice as you killed me off in your story. So I chronicled the final hours of the poor lonely corporal as he met his demise.

Read Alice's story again here: The Battle of Far Eastern Russia and The Expanded Story from Morri's POV in From Russia With Love: Part 1.

Also Note: The name of the actual operation was change to Operation Ruskie Freedom, cause I like that one better.

A Third Note: The following takes place during Cpl. Daks eBirthday. He was 2 years old.

Battlefields of FER/Western Alaska

Day 1,017:
I had thought Operation Ruskie Freedom was over, all major combat was done for and I was spending time back in my adopted state of New Mexico. I met up with my local Senator and TC platoon leader Second Lieutenant MorningAlice. She had just gotten re-elected when she informed me that local rebels had started the Ruskie rebellion in Western Alaska and seized control of the Capital. They had received funds and supplies from their leaders in Moscow, and now we were paying the price of not toppling the Rubot regime.

Sitting in the 312th Ninjas APC being transported to the frontline, I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread as thought this was going to be a hell of a battle. Our superiors tried to down play the seriousness of this threat but I had been around far too long to fall for that. I had fought for Russian Independence only a year and a half ago and now here I was fighting the Rubots whom overthrew their government just before the on set of WW3.

Day 1,017 18:00hrs
Our objective was simple clean up any resistance that the Airborne and the Marines didn't have time for. I was a frontline rifleman who had wanted to be an artilleryman but I was quite skilled with a rifle and was great cannon fodder as Second Lieutenant Crucifixpandaninja told me once. Our main goal was to push from the south keep the lines clear of enemy combatants, especially helis, if they capture a point it wouldn't be long before the sound of tanks flooded the field.

Lieutenant General Morrigan Alexandros was directing the TC from her tank or the HQ, as I like to call it. While Second Lieutenant Joe Alpha was tasked with leading the entirety of the TC rifles. The sun had gone down just minutes ago and the fighting was being pressed towards the capital. As we walked into the cold dark damp forest every so often a soulless rubot would try to catch us by surprise, but we were prepared. Every section of the forest we cleared only lead us closer and closer to the Capital were the heaviest fighting was being waged by the Marines and Airborne, and a couple Calvary members, not to mention some very wealth militia members and civilians. Before we knew it the TC rifle group had captured the small forest south of the capital in Western Alaska.

20:00hrs
"Tanks don't care where they blow stuff up as long as they can blow something up", Second Lieutenant SharkJuggler once told me after walking out of LTG Morrigans office looking a bit depressed. Minutes after capturing the small forest south of the capital, the entire plains to the north of us were rumbling with columns of Rubot tanks as they broke through the lines and steam rolled their way to recapture the south. We set up fortifications as fast as we could, Second Lieutenant Magic Fridge was in charge of building up our defenses and was doing a hell of a job. We braced ourselves for the onslaught of Rubots. Before that fateful step onto the Western Alaskan soil everything seem just like our victory in WSR, the same moves on our side, the same desperate heli assaults by the rubots, but the moment I stepped into 12/18 patch of forest, I new something was different.

20:50hrs
That's when we got word from Captain Tim Cannon, the helis had broken through on our west flank and were holding up reinforcements, they had pushed deep into the south-western forest across the plain to our west. Now we were on our own. The order came down from Brigadier General IUseCoupons to hold our position as long as we could as friendly forces tried to brake though the bulge in the east and get to us. The first few hits were from the artillery stationed in the Rubot held capital of Western Alaska, it was very accurate but I wouldn't expect any less from Skynet. The shelling was a diversion as the tanks rolled into place with the sound of explosions and the dust kicked up by the shell covered their advance. We couldn't tell what direction they would engage us from but we expected them to try to capture the hills, as the hills were on both sides of the forest. We would be surrounded if that happened and our only hope was the long narrow strip known as the 20 line to the south, it was the hardest territory for the Rubots to capture only because they would have to go through us.

21:25hrs
Once the shelling stopped we did a body count, luckily everyone was intact, but just before the dust settled and we got our first view from the captured hills. I couldn't see any green just blotches of dark gray that formed a hilly shape. I took a deep breath as the first tank shell struck not two feet from me. This shelling was also a distraction as more tanks rushed us head on from 16 forest line in the north, as the battle for the southern forest was on. If we held, we would be able to harass the capital if we didn't our forces would have been pushed back past the 15 mountain range. We took out tank after rubot tank, some almost killed me half to death, and it stayed that way for hours. Deep in darkness of the night and in war torn the forest we held, but our reinforcements had been pushed back past the south-western forest into the plains and the 20 line was cut off. We were surrounded, and cut off, but all we could was keep holding.

22:00hrs
Then the artillery strikes returned, this time it signaled to the rubot rifles to commence their assault. Our numbers were falling, a casualty rate above 30%; Lt. Joe and Lt. CPN were among the few to be taken out by the tanks but it was due to their tremendous bravery that we had only suffered less than a 15% casualty during the tank assault. Wave after wave of rifles came at us and every so often they would send a tank to brake past our defenses, but we would recoup and push back the lines. Some of the bravest chopper pilots our side could produced would harass the plains near the capital thinning the lines before they could advanced on us, but most of them would drop supplies and ammo for us, just to keep us alive.

Day 1,018 02:55hrs
We waited and waited for some friendly tanks, artys, and rifles but they did not come, our communication to HQ came and went. I kept my spirits up by picturing LTG Morri riding her tank down the western hill blowing up squads of rubots tanks and 2nd Lt. MorningAlice flying in like a Valkyrie in here chopper mowing down columns of rubot rifles. But the more men I lost the more the vision faded into the darkness. I got a garbled message from Master Sergeant HobbitTon, he was the 312th own personal Quarter Master and master businessman, we were ordered to pull out and return to the frontlines. I couldn't believe what I had just heard, we were surrounded, we couldn't pull out! Didn't they didn't know that? They must have known! The brave chopper pilots were keeping us alive, but as I contemplated our situation, right then it had dawned on me, it had been a long while since any air support had gotten to us. This time we were completely cut of and alone.

05:35hrs
Hours after that last message we had run low on food and ammo, I knew they weren't coming for us anytime soon, our best chance was to hold up here in the forest till the rubots either forgot about us, gave up on killing us, or god willing reinforcements came. But Skynet didn't forget about us, we were bleeding them dry, it kept sending it's minions to be blown asunder by a lonely pack of riflemen, who were already on the brink of death. So they launched one last massive assault and it came on the heels of the Siberian dawn. The sun rose as combined effort of tanks, rifles, helis and artillery plowed through the forest, they took out everything, including the trees.

06:05hrs
My blood was pumping as I saw my fellow soldiers who were too green to withstand this. I had been a fresh Marine in Operation Taco Bell and had retired after the US's attack on the Three Pillars. I had returned when the call went out for Operation Balls of Steel, sooner or later I know I would rejoin the military. Knowing of new advancements in warfare I choose to start from the bottom up to learn it all without compromising my fellow soldiers. Luckily I found a place in the TC, I fought my way From Western Alaska to WSR in TC, but here I was starting death in the face in the last place I though I would.

A Serbian made rubot tank with red and blue strips lead the charge forward as an entire division of rubots marched forward. The lead tank fired it's double barrels and I was the unlucky one to be hit first. I flew 10 feet back as the shock of one of the most experienced member left being blown away by a tank froze the TC soldiers still. Only Lt. Charles “Charlie” Howe was reacting to the battle. With every ounce left in my body I pulled myself back up to my knees and held up my rifle and tossed it to wolfang230, as it flew at him, he was pulled out his stupor caught it and rallied the remaining soldiers to counter the rubot assault.

I stood there on my knees bleeding from every wound on my body and without giving it a second thought, I place my hands at my sides and closed my fist. I screamed up to the heavens "This IS SPARTA!" Then just as my consciousness started to give, out of the sky helis drop down and blew the rubots to Kingdom Come, and the reinforcement, that I had giving all hope of ever coming, came charging in, pushing back the rubot horde. My body fell weakly onto the ground as I looked back, I saw so many familiar faces as they ran passed me. Did I see Morri rolling in her tank? Did I see Alice flying high? Would we win back Western Alaska? I would never know as my eyelids closed and smile creep up on my face, and quietly everything faded into black.
