WAIT, I CAN EXPLAIN.

The US now holds Southern Thailand and Eastern Thailand.

Simply put, Southern Thailand is a region of significant strategic value in the Indos quest for High Iron in India, or in the eUS' ability to hold the high Iron region in India.

As you've noticed, there has been a long string of alerts on the page regarding Southern Thailand, and people attacking it or it being Resistance Warred back to us. It's been attacked 7 times by 4 different countries within the last month, 6 of those attacks came within the last week.

Due to our small population size there is simply no way we can defend Southern Thailand, and it makes us a target for Take-over attempts. With the US holding Southern Thailand, it creates a physical barrier between us and Indonesia, and removes any strategic value that we have.

Ok, but why Eastern Thailand too?

Just because we're no longer of strategic importance, that doesn't mean we still aren't at risk for a Take Over, sometimes a takeover is just for getting gold from winning elections, nothing more. With the US holding Eastern Thailand, it now makes it easier for us to defend ourselves from a political takeover.

This Wiki entry breaks down the Congress to Region ratio. Having only 4 regions doesn't decrease the amount of Candidates that can win, but having only 3 regions drops the amount of congressmen by 10. Since having fewer seats means we need fewer congressmen for a majority, it makes it easier to defend.

Ok, but why the US? Why not Malaysia or the Philippines, since they're our allies

Well, Malaysia has the MPPs that they can use to defeat Indonesia, however, they unfortunately cannot defend against RWs started by Indonesia. So we had to look outside Sol (with Sol's and Malays' approval). Luckily for us the eUS was a region away from us, and because of the Strategic value of Southern Thailand, have an interest in holding it. The eUS can defend against Indonesian RWs, and thus makes the productive occupation more permanent.

Can the eUS take more Regions if they decide they want to?

No, not without opening a war, which costs gold, and takes time. They were only able to get Southern Thailand and Eastern Thailand via Philippines, whom we had an open war with.

Does this mean we're no longer Sol, and a part of Eden?

No, we're still Sol, not Eden. In fact, as strange as this sounds, it allows us to retain Sol's underlying goal of neutrality. This is a win/win for both the eUS and eThailand, and to an extent Malaysia and the Philippines. We'll not be signing MPPs with Eden countries, we've essentially reduced our strategic value to nothing so we can go about improving our country to the point where we can stand on our own, and reasonably defend ourselves, without fear of being molested.
