Jewitt Elected for a Second Term

Incumbent President Jewitt was reelected yesterday. He pulled in 2,351 votes to defeat challenger Woxan, who received 1,368 votes. That makes today the first day of Jewitt’s second term. A new set of national goals have been enacted, and a new Cabinet has taken office.



January Cabinet Announced



The Presidential Cabinet will remain nearly the same, as President Jewitt is very happy with the work that these many folks have done over the past month. These are the often unsung heroes that make the government run as smoothly and effectively as a government can. These are the men and maybe a woman or two who have spent many sleepless hours working with all sorts of people and problems from around the world to make the eUS a better place to be. National Goals

The first ever cycle of National Goals was completed on Monday, with the United States receiving an award for completing two of our three goals. The goals of a 10% population increase and a 5% increase in the Gross Domestic Product were easily surpassed, aided no doubt by our recent military activities in Asia and the acquisition of a high-iron resource. The domestic US National Goals for January are decidedly more modest: a 2% population growth (24982 citizens) and 3% economic growth (8776 Gold). Once again, the United States has the military goal of conquering regions from the United Kingdom. Progress on these goals will be evaluated on Day 807, just before the elections for February.



Karnataka

On 30 December 2009, the United States did battle with Indonesia at their high-iron fortress of Karnataka and conquered the region. The President of Indonesia actually retreated from the battlefield despite Karnataka being the single most important region under Indonesian control. This followed just days after Iran lost Jharkhand. The region of Karnataka is now under United States control with the permission of the Indian government. As part of the Asian campaign, iron from Karnataka will fuel a later push into Manchuria.

The region has been fortified with a hospital and defense system. This makes it the third fortress region, and citizens are encouraged to live there much like they were when the fortress in California was established. Unlike California, the fortress in Karnataka is not expected to stand forever. The region will eventually be returned to India, but the length of the lease is long enough to justify changing residences.



War Updates from Around the New World

The Asian campaign coincides with several struggles between EDEN and Phoenix centered in Europe. Hungary managed to conquer a piece of Romania, but Romania has regained territorial integrity now. Poland is decisively conquering Germany, and Spain finished off the France’s last fortress region of Paris Isle of France. The situation in Asia is no longer as promising as the one in Europe. Russia has invaded China, conquering Jilin, but were repelled at Xinjiang and Liaoning. The United States no longer has a border with Phoenix-occupied Manchuria.

The Pony Express is a Department of Media organization that votes up articles on a daily basis. The organization is undergoing some restructuring, but new members are being accepted.
