Official AAP Press Release: The December Congressional Election
Greetings Fellow Americans,
Well, it would not be another Congressional election/Christmas without some kind of drama.
Just a few hours ago we concluded Congressional elections for the month of December and selected the members of the 25th eUS Congress.
While many races went off without a hitch, running as expected, there was one race that developed into a controversial affair: the race in California.
The short version of events: Kyle321n was the "real" candidate, Woxan was a blocker. Woxan won.
The long version of events: (Takes deep breath) Kyle321n was the official candidate in California, endorsed by the Feds, the Libs, the CvP, the USWP and the AAP. By all accounts, he should have won the race.
Now, occasionally blockers will be employed to ensure that unsavory candidates do not make it on the ticket and to basically clinch victory for the expected winner. The blockers are generally provided by the party itself or the individual running in the state. As Wednesday night wound to a close ballman, the Party President of the AAP needed to select a blocker for the AAP in California. It being Christmas Eve, there were few active on the AAP IRC channel, those online were all either already running for Congress or unavailable on Christmas Day.
With a half an hour to go, Woxan stepped up and offered to run as a blocker in California and with little choice, ballman accepted. According to ballman, he knew going in that Woxan stood a fair chance of winning in California, even as a blocker, but he was desperate for a blocker and expected that Woxan would take measures to turn voters to Kyle321n. Needless to say, he did not.
Whether or not he intended to try to win is unclear.
Seeing that Woxan was winning and having already received some angry PMs, ballman asked Woxan to change his avatar to a standard blocker avatar asking people to vote for the "real" candidate (Kyle321n). This also, Woxan did not do, though he reportedly told ballman he would.
Now, it must be noted that election day is the 25th, which in December means it is also Christmas Day. While Woxan may have said he would do these things, it was undoubtedly a busy day for him, as it was for most all of us. However, he did update his status during the day, so one has to wonder why he never changed his avatar.
Ultimately, this is a very unfortunate series of events, the blame for which falls squarely on the shoulders of Woxan and AAP Party President ballman. The AAP would like to extend an apology to Kyle321n and any others who were angered by these events and felt slighted in any way. We shall work harder in the future to hold our leaders and our members more accountable, to ensure that events like this do not take place. When asked about the whole affair, ballman freely accepted responsibility for his part in the California election debacle saying it was a mistake and any blame placed on him was rightfully placed.
It is our hope that we can all move on from this and learn from our mistakes.
Happy Holidays

You guys are good at covering things up.

Hmmmmm
nice damage control. I like tep's article better.

Move on, nothing you can do about it now
This is my problem with the statement above...I don't understand how Ballman or Woxan could believe that having him as a blocker would be better than the alternative (either no candidate or another candidate). Even if there was a candidate that the AAP had not sanctioned in California, Woxan stands an astronomically better shot at being elected then some random two clicker. My question to the AAP is if indeed Kyle or the FEDS fell short in supplying a blocker, how did it help Kyle by filling that spot with a well known political figure?
My article on Blockergate: <a href="http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/blockergate-the-california-december-election-1110226/1/20" target="_blank">http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/bloc[..]/1/20</a>
@tep
My response would be that clearly ballman suffered a lapse of judgement in going with Woxan, and he has acknowledged that
Guys, clearly running Woxan as a blocker isn't a good move in hindsight. At the time ballman was under a lot of stress trying to create a good congress during war and live his own life on christmas and he clearly just made a bad call.
Not the end of the world.
@ Evan and DD: I think that's fair but I don't think it necessarily absolves Woxan.
Should I have not voted for Woxan?
I don't follow politics, and I recognized the name, so I voted for him.
@ Tep
I never said anything about absolving Woxan
Partisan Politics ? in my eUSA ? no way
Fishy.
@ DD
I think we're on the same page then.
