New Citizen Information: First Steps

Day 1,367, 21:57 Published in USA USA by Department of Citizen Affairs

Your first few days in eRepublik can be harrowing days. A lot of citizens find themselves trapped with no money and no health from fighting. It's easy to screw yourself right off the bat in this game, there's no sign telling you "don't fight unless you can afford the food to heal back to 90+ health", even though there should be.

Luckily for you, citizen, the Department of Education is here to walk you through those days, and before you'll know it, we'll get you supplied, integrated, and ready to fight for the greatest eNation in the world.

The first thing you should do is get a job (you bum). You can find one in the job market. After you get hooked up with a job, you can work for the salary you just gained. Simply click the picture that goes with the company you just joined, this will typically be in the top-left hand corner of your “My Land” page. After you do that, you'll get a summary of your salary (minus taxes) and the number of units you produced. Click the green “Collect” button.

The next step is to go train at the training grounds. Take the same steps you did for working, but this picture will usually be in the top-right hand corner. You'll automatically gain some strength. From that results screen, click the green button. After this, you can go to your home screen and gain 1 str and another experience point by clicking "Get reward". You can do (and should do) these 3 steps everyday.

After that, use the marketplace and upload an avatar on your profile page. The first time you do all of these steps, you should be gaining an experience level. You can also do missions at your own pace (don't break your bank or your health trying to finish them all) to get more XP.

You can and should work and train everyday: working every day rewards the Hard Worker medal and your daily wage, and training makes your life worth living by building up your ability to mow down countless ONE fools, as well as giving you Super Soldier medals.

Health is a number on your left sidebar, under your name and avatar. Working consumes ten (10) health and training consumes ten (10) health as well. You can gain health by eating food (or at daychange from a house, when you can afford one). There is a limit to the amount of health you can gain in a day. You can heal 100 health for every star of your town hall, plus an additional 50 or 100 based on your health building. With both at maximum (a 5-star Town Hall and a +100 health building), you can restore up to 600 health a day from food. You can have a maximum of 100 health at a time.

Once you're level 6, you're of age to fight in almost-mortal combat. More about fighting can be found in an earlier article we wrote here. Fighting is how we as a country gain new territories, defend our own, and help our allies in their campaigns. Citizens follow the Dept. of Defense's orders for battlefields and fight in them. Everytime you press the fight button on a battle screen, you will deal damage and lose 10 health. You should never fight if you cannot afford the food you will need to heal the damage from it or if you have reached your daily food limit. Plan ahead.

The U.S. government has many programs in place to make sure you don't get trapped with no health and no money. Participating in the Meals on Wheels and Bewbs for Newbs program will get our top men on the line to get you what you need to survive.

If you look on your own profile, you'll see you get two locations put on the side of your profile: your current location, and your citizenship. You can change your location by clicking the change link next to it, and paying the fee in your country’s currency. Moving from state to state (except Alaska) is $20, moving internationally costs more depending on distance.

What your location allows you to do:
- Fight for the location country and her allies in a normal battle
- Fight for the location country only in a resistance battle
- Work at a company in the location country

Location isn't urgently important. You can live in any state you want - just make sure that the state isn't prone to being attacking any time soon, or you'll have to buy a ticket or two to return to America. Your location decides what congressional election you vote in as well.

Unlike your location, citizenship is free to change - but it requires a country's congress to approve your request. Citizenship allows you to participate in a country's political process, including voting and running for office. As an American, you shouldn't change your citizenship unless you've talked with a congressman about coming back in or you might have difficulty getting your American citizenship back. The reason for this is political take-overs. You can read more about citizenship and political takeovers here.

You automatically get 1 gold for every level you gain, and 5 gold for every medal you obtain. There will be a note in the alerts screen when you get one of these bonuses, and the gold is directly given to you.

The monetary market is where you can trade gold for local currency, or vice versa. Our U.S. Dollar (USD) is a local currency - it's only usable in the USA. It is accessible from under the market tab. The monetary market has many uses, but I'm just going to demonstrate here how to get USD for your gold, if you ever find yourself short on dollars.

Before you go deficit spending with your gold, you should know you can't use the monetary market until level 15. After you get there, gold and USD are freely exchangeable in the way above.

Now that you're an established citizen of eRepublik, working and training like a boss, it's time to get active in the community. It is social strategy after all.
