National Goals, Winners of eRepublik Announced

17 Day 776, 09:14 USA
4 January 2010, Day 776 of the New World. National goals have successfully provided motivation for the people. Although our quest to conquer London was ultimately unsuccessful, despite the dedication and hard work of every United States citizen, our nation should be proud of its accomplishments: more babies and a higher GDP. For this, we have been granted a monument.

This appears to be the same one given to all countries who fulfilled two national goals. We should all pat ourselves on the back and look up at our new statue with pride. The national goals motivated us, and we made it happen.

Countries that fulfilled one national goal appear to have been given an obelisk wrapped in a vine. It’s not a particularly tall one as evidenced by the short trees standing beside it. Good effort, obelisk countries, but you did not quite rise to the level of our Colossus-of-Rhodes-like monument.

While we acknowledge our victories, let us also acknowledge our defeats. The United States did not achieve all the goals it set for itself by electing Jewitt. Some nations did succeed in all three areas. To those nations, eRepublik simply says they are “victorious.”

It has been a good run and a hard-fought history. How many empires were created in Asia since the beginning of the New World? Six? Of course, we knew this would come to an end and one or two nations would rise to the top. Various countries have held the top spot at one time or another, but we finally have a decisive victor for all time.

I would like to congratulate the winners of eRepublik

Norway

and

Peru

If you agreed with the points above, allow your vote to be decided by the national goals set by the candidate. The rest of you have probably figured out that national goals appear to be a failure. Initially, I assumed that they might be worth basing our actual goals around because winning would do something. Achievements have always been a way to artificially influence gameplay without providing real content. At least when a citizen earns a harder worker achievement he gets five gold. The United States and other countries appear to have gotten nothing of value. I was expecting maybe a 10% damage boost for the next month, 1000 G to the national account, +5.00 strength for each elected official, or two tokens to attack without initiative. Furthermore, I wanted which goals we accomplished to matter, so that a military objective complete yielded a different result than population increase. Clearly all national goals do is let your enemies know what you’re planning, as per Romania’s intention to conquer Heilongjiang, Hungary.

Don’t consider national goals when voting tomorrow. They’re worthless.

EDIT: Switzerland and the Netherlands won eRepublik as well. These four nations are clearly a cut above the rest!

They aren't exactly worthless either. They set standards for what to expect out of a president and to see how succesful they are. Sort of like a simple benchmarking thing. Although yes, a reward would be nice
