Republic of Croatia is a unitary democratic parliamentary republic at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southeast Europe, and the Mediterranean. The capital city is Zagreb.

Croatia declared independence in June 1991, however the declaration came into effect on 8 October 1991. In the meantime, tensions escalated into the Croatian War of Independence when the Yugoslav National Armyand various Serb paramilitaries attacked Croatia. By the end of 1991, a high intensity war fought along a wide front reduced Croatia to control of about two-thirds of its territory. On 15 January 1992, Croatia gained diplomatic recognition by the European Economic Community members, and subsequently the United Nations. The war effectively ended in 1995 with a decisive victory by Croatia in August 1995. The remaining occupied areas were restored to Croatia pursuant to the Erdut Agreement of November 1995, with the process concluded in January 1998. Croatia became a World Trade Organization (WTO) member on 30 November 2000. The country signed a Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union in October 2001. Croatia became member of NATO on 1 April 2009, and joined the European Union on 1 July 2013

Kroacia shpalli pavarësinë në qershor të 1991 , por deklarata hyri në fuqi më 8 tetor të vitit 1991. Ndërkohë , tensionet u pershkallëzuan në luftën per Pavarësi , kur paraushtarakët serbë dhe armata jugosllave sulmuan Kroacin. Deri në fund të vitit 1991 kishte luft intensive ku kroatet kishin nen kontroll rreth dy te tretat e teritoreve te tyre. Më 15 janar 1992, Kroacia fitoj njohje diplomatike nga anëtarët e Komunitetit Ekonomik Evropian , dhe më pas edhe nga Kombet e Bashkuara. Lufta përfundoi në vitin 1995 me një fitore vendimtare nga Kroacia në gusht të 1995. Zonat e mbetura të pushtuara iu kthyen Kroacis në pajtim me Marrëveshjen Erdut të nëntorit të vitit 1995. Kroacia u bë antare ne Organizata Botërore e Tregtisë ( OBT ) anëtari më 30 nëntor 2000. . Kroacia u bë anëtare e NATO-s më 1 prill 2009 , dhe u bashkua me Bashkimin Evropian më 1 korrik 2013
