Limited Paths

I've been writing a little novel, if you like to imagine while reading it's suppose to be in anime/manga form. It's a bit long sorry~

Chapter One
The path that starts it all

Deep in the forest west of Sendai there is a school. But this is no ordinary school. This is the home of the Five Dragon Knights a secret organization that works within the school to protect the world. No one outside of a select few and the students even know it exists. Only a few more know the schools exact location or how to get there. Not many are accepted to this school but even less graduate from it. Soon a dark evil is coming one the likes of which has never been seen and everything will change.
The morning began with a fateful encounter as the young Asuna Yunomiya runs into one of our protagonists, the red haired Sakino Umehara. They both fell to the ground, and books scattered the ground. She rubbed her head a bit before jumping to her feet quickly. “I’m sorry! I was in a rush and didn't see you there.” She bowed slightly in an apologetic manner. Sakino slowly stood up and began picking up his things “Nothing to worry about accidents to happen after all.” He spoke in a calm voice as though nothing happened. A few of their books had been mixed up but she had rushed too much for either of them to notice the difference. He began walking away from her as a bell would ring in the background “Oh no, I’m going to be late on the first day!” She frantically yelped to herself when she began running. It was almost too late when she got though the door, the late bell ringing throughout the school undisturbed.
She composed herself a bit since the starting ceremony was about to begin. Because of her last name she had been placed towards the back of the line. Fortunately since it was a small school the view wasn't that bad and it was relatively quite. The Principle finished his speech, although she ignored it since it was the same at every school each year. After him the head of Student Deployment began to speak, for most of the speech she wondered what the Student Deployment meant. A few chairs ahead a girl was talking about something that upperclassmen did to freshmen apparently. It sounded like a cheesy movie but she liked the entertainment. Soon this speech was over and the lady on stage let the Student Body President take the microphone. It was mostly irrelevant at first but then Asuna noticed who the President was, it was the boy from earlier. Her attention peaked as he started speaking. He spoke out in a calm yet cold voice, “Hello my fellow students. Now, I’m not one for long speeches so I’ll shorten this a bit.” Her attention on it would fade and the words seemed to jumble together. “Also be careful while running, you might run into someone around the corner.” With that he left the stage. Asuna felt a little embarrassed but at the same time happy that only she knew who he was referring to. As the opening ceremony ended the students were let out for the day to go around and join clubs or go home.
School always seems easy for the first week or so, but the excitement quickly wears off. It was still the first day but Asuna decided to sit in the class to get a feel for her surroundings. It didn't take long for her to be approached by another person, which introduces our third protagonist, Mayoi Ichida. She was a taller person that was pretty fit she had short brown hair that complemented her eyes. “Hey there, I’m Ichida Mayoi what’s your name?” Asuna looked up at the girl standing over her for a moment, “Oh, hi I’m Yunomiya Asuna.” She smiled politely at her. Mayoi would pause for a moment, “Hmm, Yunomiya-chan? Alright well I just wanted to say hi since I heard we were going to be in the same dorm.” She smiled warmly before exchanging goodbyes. Asuna felt a cool breeze from outside since the windows in the hall were opened earlier. She noticed one of her books looked different for some reason. However, before she could investigate the strange looking book a group of people began to crowd around her trying to get her to join their clubs.
A few rooms away Mayoi was gathering her things for training practice later. A few students in the hall called to her, “Hey Mayoi, we’re heading out, so hurry up or the captain will be angry.” They walked off heading towards the gym. She was a fairly laid back person so she didn't care much if she was a little late. It was only the first day so the team shouldn't be that busy with anything other than basics. Even though she had taken her time to get her stuff there is no denying that Mayoi Ichida is an airhead. She started to make her way to the tennis courts near the gym but forgot one of her bags in the classroom. A mysterious figure walked into the room and placed a note inside the bag where it would take a while to find. They quickly left the room just as the other door had opened and Mayoi ran in to grab her stuff. She didn’t notice the person or the note that they left so she just continued on her way to practice.
The day continued calmly with little excitement save for a few people partying for getting in the same class. Asuna was walking to her dorm still thinking if she should join a club or not. People were walking past her both to the dorms and the main building. She stopped for a moment to sit on a bench and think about what to do. Suddenly a scream came to her attention, “Oh no, watch out!” rapidly moving towards her was a boy on a bike. He didn’t seem to have control over it and they were on a hill so he had some speed with him. Luck happened to be with Asuna as he hit a small curb before reaching the bench and had gone flying onto the ground behind her. She had already jumped to her feet, heart racing and full of fear, she ran over to him after the shock subsided. “Are you alright?” she helped to boy to his feet. He had a bit of dirt on him and a scratch on his cheek “Yea, I’m fine are you…alright?” after looking at her he went a shade of pink. “Yes I didn’t get hurt or anything just a little shocked.” She was relieved that he was alright. He quickly dusted himself off before grabbing his bike “That’s good, well I have to go.” She was confused at his sudden change in attitude “Alright, try to be a bit more careful.” He looked a little embarrassed now “Yea I’ll try.” With that he rode off again towards the dorms.
Sitting inside the now empty student counsel room, signing some papers for later activities, Sakino decided to look through the book he got recently. He spoke to himself as he looked through his bag for it, “Let’s see if I recall I put it in.” He paused for a moment, “Hmm, classical literature volume one is not what I thought was in here. These are troubling times indeed.” He stood up from his chair before pulling his jacket on. A slight change in his voice made him seem displeased, “I fear for the safety of who ever stole it.” He briskly left the room in search of the person that had taken his book. A short while after he left the room a mysterious presence would appear as though from nowhere and place something in his bag which he had left behind. The presence would leave the room quickly just as it had before with Mayoi’s bag.
In the dorm Asuna was sitting in the hall still somewhat thinking about the accident with the bicycle. She sighed out loud but the halls were empty so that no one heard it. She opened her bag and saw the book again which caused her to almost immediately forget about the guy that crashed. She pulled the book out and began to read the title out loud, “Arcoura Ties Borona.” These words in English translated to Third Arcane Trials. Of course Asuna didn’t know what they meant but as soon as she finished reading them a light began to glow around her. “Huh? What’s going on?” She was shocked and full of fear at the same time. Not far away Sakino still looking for his book saw the light and would begin rushing over to its source. The book flew open and words inside of it would create large runes of light to appear which would fly into Asuna filling her with knowledge. Just as this happens Sakino opens the door and grabs her wrist which caused the light to disappear and her to become conscious of her surroundings again. “We have to get out of here quick.” He spoke with a stern voice as he tugged on her arm. “What? I’m not going anywhere until you explain what happened!” He Ignored her and started pulling her out of the door, “I’ll tell you after we get out of here, just trust me.” She followed him reluctantly and full of questions.
Outside behind a tree Sakino let go of Asuna since they were hidden. She was a bit angry at him, “Alright so what was so important that you had to bring me out here?” He notices how annoyed she is so he began to explain the situation in a calm voice. “Well for one use of magic without permission is against the rules and is strictly punished. Normally I’d just let who ever did it get punished and be fine with it since it’s my job to make sure students follow rules. However, you have my book and if you got caught that would be taken away from you.” She was confused about the whole magic thing but understood him. He looked away for a moment to think, “Alright you’re a first year and this is the first day. So you probably haven’t been told about magic or our powers yet. Well you get an early introduction into it I guess.” He took a few minutes to explain the secret behind the school and how all first years are told four weeks after the start of school. They are given a choice to follow through with it or finish their first year then leave with their memory of it being erased. “That’s why I have that book and what happened in the room, ok?” She nodded at him, “Ok, wow that’s a lot to take in all at once.” He was still curious about something though, “I’ve never seen that happen, the light that came from the book when you read it. Tell you what you keep the book I feel like it’ll be interesting to watch.” “Oh so now I’m your little experiment great.” She said it in a joking manner. They waited a bit longer till the teachers were all gone and then went their separate ways.
